What I find amazing is that there are still some black people in America who still deny that the toasting DJ artform gave birth to rap!

I think Rap in some form would have still been an 'American thing' - with the influence of James Brown & the funk scene , the last poets' , 'Gil Scott Heron ' ,king Tim ....

@@andchat6241 There was no jump to rap from James Brown or Gil Scott Heron. People confuse sampling of James Brown to the actual creation of rap. A totally different thing.

Astute analysis bredrin in citing Big Youth as an influence on Dillinger.
Jah Youth also influenced others like Prince Jazzbo.
My toasters are Big Youth, U Roy, Dr. Alimantado, Dillinger, Brigadier Jerry and Prince Jazzbo.
You cannot go wrong with those superstars.

Not many people know that Dillinger and Trinity are relatives, and that Trinity and Clint Eastwood are brothers…Trinity is gone now, but Dillinger is still here…both are two of my favs…still listen to what I deem are their best recordings…never liked “Cocaine in my Brain” despite its wittiness…to me it was a departure from his RASTAFARIAN tunes…it is unfortunate that he, as so many others, got caught up in the addictions of the world…” Go before us JAH go before us and do thy work thyself…A so the dread flash him locks and the lightening clap and the weak heart drop…” I think had he continued recordings as such he would have been in the galaxy of Marley…
