- The most popularly known members of the Wailers are Bob, Bunny and Peter. The identity of the fourth member Junior Braithwaite is rarely known. This video traces his beginnings as a boy from Trenchtown to the formation of one of the most popular reggae groups of all time
Hey! My name is Milverton Braithwaite. This is my uncle and he was one of my favorite people. He always gave me MASSIVE oranges whenever he would come visit us in Atlanta. Unfortunately I didn’t get to see him much because he and my dad had a lot of tension. My dad was pro-war and didn’t respect Uncle Junior’s decision. Anyway it’s really refreshing to see someone appreciate him and tell his story. You did a really good job.

I know right. I just keep binge watching all of these. I don’t understand why this music history isn’t taught in our school. Many of the songs called younger artists are clueless. I mean I knew nothing of some of what I am watching on CZcams. Only of the regular artists

I managed Junior Braitwaite in the late seventies and early eighties in Chicago,Illinois where Junior was living.He sang in the New Era Reggae band and was the house band at the Wild Hare on Clark Street

You have missed out Anthony Walker (Vision) who is an original Wailer seen in the Video, and toured with Peter before he died. He is the Cousin of Reta Marley, and is also seen on the Album.

Very insightful. I had no idea what had happened to the soul-voiced Junior Braithwaite. What a tragic life full of wrong timings and had it not been for racist America's ill treatment of black youngsters who opposed the infamous Vietnam War young Junior Braithwaite would have realized his life long dream of becoming a medical doctor. I also remember that he had a cameo role in Bunny Wailer's most illustrious concert of all time, " Live In Madison Square Garden", when Bunny, then at his peak, introduced Braithwaite to the audience as an original Wailer and they both performed a powerful new tune on a then upcoming album, with both stars taking turns on lead vocals. (Looking forward to The Reggae Appreciation Society doing an episode on the remaining lost Wailer, Beverly Kelso.)

@@ReggaeAppreciationSociety I also understand that for brief period of time in the 60's Rita Marley's cousin Constantine "Vision" Dreamwalker was also conscripted as a member of The Wailers but of course he cannot be regarded as an original member.

Top interview I fulljoy it to the maximum it filled in things that I thought I knew about the wailers.
So tragic to hear these things because he sound like he was destining to be a medical physician but Amerikkka an its war like mentality wanted to medal in affairs that it has nothing to do with their rarse and this brother got cought up in their bullshit that cut his career.
A well unsong hero its shameful to see the value of life in Jamaica is nothing and as with Peter who I met in the UK this talented singer had to end the same way.
It's all about time imagine if the album would of come out in the 80's when it was recorded who knows where it would of been billboard material we never will know 😥🇯🇲😥🎤

A sad story.indeed!....thanks for the valuable info as many including myself have always wondered what happened to the 4th Wailer.
Hardly any debate in my opinion... It's highly unlike Junior Braithwaites' presence would have moulded the Wailers together...The dominant corporate forces of Island Records, and Chris Blackwell and others would've been too strong for him to influence....If strong personalities like Bunny and Tosh in particular couldn't stem the tide i don't see how Braithwaite could ..Things were meant to be. One thing that's rarely mentioned in the Wailers break-up saga is the role played by Bob's close friend and collaborator Lee Scratch Perry who actively encouraged Bob towards his solo path as early as 1970 when he (before Chris Blackwell ) was the Band's producer and mixer and part-time songwriter.

No Bob Marley broke away from Lee Perry and took Family Man and Carl with him to focus on his own production
@@johntom8291 True to nature Bob and Lee Perry settle their differences and made Peace resulting in the Small Axe collaboration which ultimately ended on the Burnin' album after it's initial release a few years earlier....My point is, the seeds of separation may have been planted earlier than Chris Blackwell's tenure as producer.

For those who are adding Cherry she was never a member of the Wailers. Beverly Kelso and Jr Braithwaite were the originators of the Teenagers and brought in Peter, Bunny & Bob. Joe Higgs was Jr Braithwaite's godfather that mentored them. Coxsone only used Beverly though when he created the Wailers.

Simple answer is----Junior Braithwaite. He got shot and killed while he was visiting my keyboard player, Chaka, at his Washington Gardens home. Chaka also died. Unfortunate!!!!
