My friend picked up a used R1 and brought it by my shop for some adjustments. At this point I had my zx14 for about 2 years so when I took his bike around the block for a test ride and got on it a bit, just thought "ah that's cute". The ZX truly is a split personality, totally tame and well mannered until you pin the throttle and it tries to rip your face off.
Been riding for 55 years, all kinds of bikes from motocross to touring and everything in-between. Love my ZX-14R, my Harley Screamin Eagle and my Goldwing, all for different reasons. In regard to the ZX, afraid of two things---speeding tickets and other motorists not realizing how quickly bikes can accelerate. You really need to be in a traffic free zone to let her rip. OK afraid of 3 things, third being idiots on their cell phones! Liked the vid!
I'm with you on that .. I still have my custom dragged-out Harley fat-boy that I built like 10 years ago but it hasn't moved since I got back into crotch rockets
What cracks me up is when I was on my Suzuki or now the zX and Harley riders shun me. . unlike b**** your harley is gay as f*** dude! Nice gay handlebars... I've had my ZZR1400 for a coupla years ago and you have to treat it with upmost respect. It'll pootle around all day long but as soon as you twist that throttle its like poking an untamed lion! Great video and commentary by the way!

My last bike was a GSXR 1000 . It was sicker than f****** fast but it was too twitchy. . it was like a a bike on steroids adderal and meth and crack at the same time.. real touchy not so comfortable either... I rode Suzuki's my entire life I can't believe I got a Kawasaki but I love it
I've been riding for likely longer than you've been alive (40+ years) and bought my 2020 ZX-14R at 54 years old and can honestly say that it's the most fun I've had riding on the street. Also, thought my dirt bike experience early made me a better rider on the street, my 14R experience has given me benefits now that I'm back on the dirt too. You're never too old to have fun.
The first time I rode a motorcycle, I was at a buddy's house, drinking vodka with another friend. My buddy suggested that we "borrow" his older brother's '75 KZ400 parked in the carport. We used a screwdriver to turn it on and took turns running around the neighborhood, doing rooster tails on the unpaved sections and high speed on the paved portions. I wasn't a bit scared. We rode it until it ran low on fuel. I was 15 years old. Within three months, I owned a '76 KZ400. Within two years, I had owned a '77 KZ1000 and a new '81 GPz1100. I should have been much more afraid than I ever was.
Regarding the most intimidating bikes I have been on are the, Honda CB750Four, and the Yamaha RD500LC.. I was around 25 years old and just passed my test, I had a Gpz750 at the time and my friend let me have a blast on his CB750Four and that was too much for me... weight and the way it delivered it`s power, then he let me try a RD500LC Wow! Different animal all together. About 3 years ago, I had a ride on another RD500LC I wasn`t as scared of it but, man those things scare the hell out of me, even now..! Thinking of thin tires and shi**y breaks and that "power band" that will throw your front wheel skyward, when you`re least expecting it! I must admit the ZZR is a good all-rounder bike and yes it`s comfy... But I still like the bike I ride, okay it`s got a Yamaha badge and it`s Red and white, it`s not a cool Green Kawasexy... But hey, it is still comfortable. ;) @6:29 you sounded like a "Shackleton`s High-seat" salesperson from the late 1980`s 🤣Hey, Young man!!! I still don`t feel old enough to buy a Harley or a Triumph or another cruiser in the same way, I don`t think I`m quite ready for a Lift Chair or Power Assister Recliner, just yet 😊I wish you could experience a Yzf1000R. I think you are accurate when you say as you get older you prefer something more comfortable. I know someone who at 40 moved from a ZX10R to a ZZR 1400 and then at 45 he moved from a ZZR1400 to a Z1000sx. I'm 48 and still want to move from my Z1000sx to a ZZR1400 at some point :)
I love bikes that frighten and excite me at the same time, which is why I still love to ride my 3rd gen 1 Fz1. My limit, if any, would be the ZX14, and that's because it's the biggest sport bike I'm aware of. I'm still considering it. I have plans and ambitions that call for an R1 though. I find those two quite intimidating and that's one of the reasons why I want them both. I embrace challenge now more than ever. I won't be reckless, but I would have quite a bit of fun with them.
No never rode a motorcycle that was scary or intimidating, exciting yes. When I ride a new bike the practice is take it easy and learn what the bike can do. Ride Safe have fun.
I wasn't afraid of my 06 ZX14 when 1st rode even the 1st time I pinned it wide open, but my 2013 ZX14R is a whole different bike still not afraid with it turned up no governor's no restriction in 1st & 2nd or speed limiter. You need to respect the power not be afraid of it
Fear isn't necessarily a good thing especially when riding a motorcycle 🤔 Sure it releases endorphins which may help concentration but it carries with it doubt and shaky nerves neither of which is beneficial. Anxiety, sure you're going to have that, even if it's related to dropping the bike and not necessarily it's power. That's what will lead you to the next important feeling. Respect, now that's something you should always have regardless of engine capacity. It's folly to argue that if you can cope with the thrill of the speed of a roller coaster, you'll be fine on a bike at full throttle. On a bike you actually have to maintain balance, control the throttle, apply the brakes and negotiate corners and obstacles. These are all skills best honed on smaller machines first. Way back in my youth I could have bought an R1, I didn't buy one, not because I feared it but because I knew my passion for speed and driving/riding to the engines limits wouldn't end good. At 62 I bought the last remaining ZZR1400 Performance Sport in Europe. Did I fear it? No!! Do I have a huge respect for its capabilities? Yes!! Do I ride it like I would have in my impetuous youth? Most definitely not!! Do I enjoy the power it lays down on the tarmac? Yes, but not to its full potential and only on clear roads. Again not because I fear it but because to do so would be highly dangerous except on a proper track.
Gen one ZX14 here - what scares me are the NASCAR type idiots in their pickup trucks. Been almost hit too many times by these guys - I do not get the pickup truck thing beyond needing it for towing or work. Be safe out there….
I bought mine in 2016 at the age of 58 years old and started drag racing it the next year. It is fast but can obviously be driven by almost any experienced rider. It was my favorite bike until I bought a leftover 2020 ZH2 in 2021. Better ergonomics for me at 6' 4" and my hips are starting to bother me on the 14.
@@chadkline4268 I think it depends on the rider. I could do couple hundred miles easy. But for me the ZH2 fits better right now. Taller bars lower the pegs a bit and the 14 would be better. Its much better at wind protection for sure. If you didn't need as much power I hear the Kawasaki Concours is a great machine aslo.
@@mustang32758 yes, the Concourse just seems a bit bulky, a bit too much, a potential maintenance nightmare for those that do their own servicing. I ask because so often the ZX -14 is offered as a solution for tall riders (6'3, 6'4, 195cm) and as a good bike for touring.
That’s my concern I am thinking of this zx14 having had the ZX12r which was perfect for us tall guys. Then they went to midget mode with the zx14 back in late 2000s. Bring back the Zx12!,,
I have a vz800 intruder 07, which I love riding and is nice for a chilled ride and my.wife is happy to get on the back of. She knows me well, and I'm a person who has always loved fast cars and bikes. I am looking at getting a hayabusa or the ZZR1400 performance. I'm not a person to race or ride like a idiot on the roads, but I am willing to go on track to feed my speed demons
Have a 07 hayabusa that I love, not intimidated by it but I definitely respect it.. With bikes that big if you don't respect it's power you don't need to be on it.. RIDE SAFE

Same here I ride , big dog Ridgeback chopper , Harley Ultra Limited and zx14r , love them all … zx14r is an amazing bike
I think if you are 6”2” or taller this is the only sports bike that will actually fit you … one of the reasons I bought a zx14r

I am considering a zx14 I had the zx12r which I feel is the best sport bike ever made. But,I have not driven the zx14..so.
