When you cross the Marowijne river you get into French Guyana which falls under the sovereignty of France. The real Guyana, a former colony of England, is our western neighbor. Fun fact, Suriname was at one point also a British colony. What now is known As New York and surrounding area's then fell under Dutch rule. For various reasons there was an exchange of these colonies in 1667 between the Dutch and the British.
