  • Today, we will talk about wired security cameras. There's different types that it can be confusing. We will talk about each of them and see which is the best option for you. I will also show some wiring methods for these cameras to minimize showing the wiring and for it being unplugged or cut and overall a cleaner looking security camera install.

    Thank you for the enlightening video that clarified the distinction between power supply and camera connectivity to the network. A wired setup with PoE offers enhanced security. Now armed with this detailed information, my next step is to choose a suitable brand. I use wireless system, but I'm leaning towards a fully wired setup with a battery backup for my router to ensure functionality during power outages.

    YES!! Finally, someone who agrees wired cameras are way better than wireless. All these new wireless camera/security systems irritate me. I want POE cams, because no interference from weird things like walls being in the way. "But wires can be cut!" people say. If you route your wires properly, it'll be a real PITA to do it.

    • @bennylloyd-willner9667
      @bennylloyd-willner9667 Před 6 měsíci

      YES! For real security applications I think wires are the only way to go. Battery Cams are of course not in the game at all since you don't want to risk a depleted battery for your security cam. That means you'll need a power cable to the wireless camera none the less and that cable is just as cuttable as a PoE Ethernet cable. I have about 50m (164 ft) to my front gate (I'm Swedish so metric system for me, but I Googled the distance in feet for Ya😊), so I will have my cable in the ground and then routed inside the steel pole I mount the camera on so it will be reasonably safe. I don't know if IR cameras have the possibility to turn on the camera but without IR LEDs? I would prefer separate IR lights to lure insects away from the lens.
      Anyway long rant, but I'll end her with: great video, I'm a subscriber for sure. One of the best and most thorough channels on the subject 👍

      @@bennylloyd-willner9667 I'd assume turning off the nightvision would be a thing (to stop the IR lights from turning on), and then having a separate IR light would illuminate for it. IDK how WELL that illumination would work, though, since it may not be in the lens' direct sight line. I'd also think that if you could turn off nightvision, it wouldn't also turn the camera off. You might have an application where you don't need NV, so being able to turn off just the IR should be a thing. Appreciate the inclusion of freedom units, also!

    My favourite camera (so far) is my Reolink CX410. I'd love to see a PTZ version (possibly with higher resolution) of this camera. The other version of the starlight camera I'd like is a Doorbell camera with a wider vertical view (up and down view) so that it can see packages, either that or a movable eyeball lens that gives greater flexibility of angles. Currently this is only available with various wedges or brackets which can be cumbersome and look ugly.

    • @killer2600
      @killer2600 Před 6 měsíci +2

      You can put a UPS/battery backup on your surveillance system but if you don't then your cameras will not record anything during a power outage. Wireless cameras are hit or miss, some may not record when your wi-fi connection goes down and they certainly won't be able to notify your phone of an event when the wi-fi is down.

    • @Hat65
      @Hat65 Před 6 měsíci

      Battery powered cameras are fine. HW cameras can be cut and they have flaws too. One type isn’t better than the other, they both have their uses. Also, get an alarm for backup if something DOES happen to the cameras.

    • @LifeHackster
      @LifeHackster  Před 6 měsíci +2

      You can always add a backup UPS on your wired system and battery cams will only have an advantage if their storage is in the camera itself... but if your router is not on backup or your internet is also cut off, then you will not get notifications either wired or battery.
