- No Intro - PRO techniques from an experienced colourist - straight to the point in less 8 minutes! Match Move OFX with DaVinci Resolve is an excellent plugin and works in the FREE Version. How to do Sky replacement without Fusion or using Edit page to make layers? - answer is here IT'S SIMPLE! Please note that the tracking element in this video is just to show that feature and the sky would usually need some parallax adjustment - but I thought it useful to show anyway. This also works with moving video images (eg - moving sky images). 💚 An often overlooked tool that is also available in the Free version 💚 Please note that the tracking element in this video is just to show that feature and the sky would normally need some parallax adjustment - but I thought it useful to show anyway. This also works with moving video images (eg - moving sky images).
Do you have a more advanced video with the parallax adjustment?
PARALLAX: Note to everyone talking about parallax- Panning shots do not have parallax if the tip of the lens is at the rotation point. Even if the camera is slightly off the base/rotation point, for a distant shot such as this you would not see parallax. So this kind of locked tracking actually is accurate for a pan shot. - With that said, Darren, EXCELLENT video. Thank you! And seeing solutions you come up with for when parallax is needed will be very interesting to see. : )

Thanks so much for the tutorial. I would never have figured this out reading the manual. I tried this today and all worked according to plan except that I think my jpeg resolution was not high enough. Also I had ghost lines around some of the structures and people which were against the sky. Perhaps some of the rest of you had the same problem.
This is perfect, thank you!!
Thank you Paul. Glad it worked for you

If you want some additional resize capabilities for the matte, add a serial node after it and use Node Sizing (it doesn't work just on the matte, need the serial node)
This is a way to 'replace' the plate cropping controls that used to be available.

@@DarrenMostyn haha good. Can I ask a quick question? I have an Canon R6 and have been using hdrpq to shoot in. I find I prefer the look of it over clog when finished. I don't export in hdr just SD. In your opinion is this OK or would you always recommend using clog over hdrpq for grading purposes. Sorry to hijack your reply 😂👍
Wow! Thanks
Welcome!
This was very useful, must try:-)
Please do!
I’ll have to watch this 10x
Loved this one, I have 2 great episode ideas that I'd love to see:
1) how you bring real life projects from other programs like premiere, avid etc to grade inside resolve
2) a complete guide to denosie in Davinci resolve.
Keep up the great work.
Both great ideas - thank you for contributing. Do you use Prem or Avid or both..? Which would be more useful? Maybe I open that question out to anyone ? We certainly deal with both all the time - not so much FCPX.
@@DarrenMostyn I personally use adobe premiere, and I think a lot the people getting into learning resolve also would appreciate premiere, but avid would also work fine. 😊
this is so helpful, thank you!
Glad to hear it was helpful!
yep! You could do one a week on these OFX controls and I would be someone that learns a lot.
I had a green screen video that I had to do for a music video and used the fusion Delta keyer that worked great but slow playback and caching everytime you move something. Just out of curiosity I tried the OFX keyer and it worked just as well but immediate playback without caching. So I tried some Text+ directly on footage and when doing the exact thing in Fusion - the same results. So not sure about this one, but I would bet if this was done in Fusion that it would bog down the system, like the other Fusion stuff I mentioned. There is a whole void of information that I thought I had a good knowledge of, your videos keep showing me that there is so much more to learn. Thanks for this.
Hi Jim. This is a really old technique - it's not even a V17 thing - I did this again about a month ago and then noted it as a good one for tutorial (that is how I work .. I do something and note it for a tutorial because they are REAL things - I just have to then find footage allowed to use!!! - this notepad is getting big BTW). What i like with this is the quick solution outside of Fusion - I know how to use Fusion but am often under pressure that I simply don't think about Fusion as an option. Thats just me - Im not fast in Fusion, Im fast in Color and Edit. Hope you well mate, Darren.
Hi Darren, Nice and clean explanation, i'm gonna try this :)
Hi Aneel. Go for it! Its a great tool.
Thanks ☺️
You're welcome!
Very nice 👍🏻

Key catch of video for me is OFX input, you can add anything, video , image effect and fix easy color . Cheers
Sir, ur simply genius. Already u know ur contents value from the comments posted in various groups.
Would you mind taking us deep into aces & complicated subjects. May be dcip & aces idt-odt. Also if possible make short courses with as little amount can be possible, so almost everyone can afford ur course (a bunch of small courses against small fees so we can pick which one we want & would be affordable for non earning students).
Again, hats off to you sir.

@@EricPaul Hello Eric. Happy to help you - Please contact me directly through my email which is the channel page for bespoke training. Happy to help you out for your specific requirement.
I am going to have to try this. I did an orbit on a subject and the sky was blown out, hope I can use your method to replace the entire clip with a nice looking sky.
Hi Darren, thank you very much for this very cool tutorial! I am enjoying your videos very much and can't wait to see more. I have used this technique succesfully on a recent project for a client and it turned out quite well. However, I'm having a bit of trouble getting it to work whenever objects within the same color range move through the sky. For instance, a flag with white parts against a bright sky, or headlights, etc. How do you go about this? I have tried adding a parralell node and track those moving parts, but that didn't turn out great in every case just yet. Is there also another way? I can send you a few "problematic" example shots if you like. Thanks and take care Darren!
Your technique--dragging an image directly onto the node tree--is new to me (yeah, I thought I had seen all the Resolve techniques!). Likewise, the Match Move OFX tool which consolidates and simplifies the compositing steps. Wonderful. Where do you learn these techniques??? I asked Simon Ubsdell (as you know, he has excellent deep-dive Fusion tutorials!) that question once: the short answer was, "I've been doing this for twenty years." Thanks, Darren.
I've been doing this 25 years, and about 10 years now on Resolve - this is not even a new feature - I used it again on a job about a month ago and thought it would make a good tutorial! Glad you like it.
Hi Darren,
Greetings from the India - Can you please make a tutorial about a project which is shoot on BMPCC 4k and 6k together. Genre is ROMCOM - if you want I can share you footages too. You are the only one who can guide perfectly
No fusion?
...I'm in.
Thank you
Hi Darren, Thank you for creating this video. Very helpful.
I do have an overall question; how on earth did you know about the Match Move effect and all of it’s features? Many tools and features seem intuitive but many don’t.
Thanks again.
Hey Darren, great tips here. I didn’t realize I could do this in the color page and it’s really the best way to replace a sky isn’t it? Thanks so much.
cool
Wow realy thinking to switch to davinci 🔥
What are you on now..? Get on board!
@@DarrenMostyn am currently on fcpx i mostly do events and wedding i tried davinci free virsion but cycling through large number of clips is very hard for me in davinci but in fcp it is lot easier with simple arrow key shortcuts.
