- Today you'll learn how to do a sky replacement composite effect using a luma keyer and motion tracking. Its the best way I have found to create this epic effect. Choose a still photo, video, or time-lapse to replace the sky with - its up to you! I also show you how to add as many layers as you'd want to create more depth and a more technical composite! Have fun! :D

I retired at 70 having been a fashion and commercial photographer for 50+ years and got bored so I bought a video camera and davinci resolve and thought , how hard can it be? I have been editing and retouching for years; well HA, I have to say fusion screws my brain and your tutorial is so easy to follow and your explanations are first class and helpful.
I have a idea to do a panning shot of a church that was bombed in WW2 and want to the add a artificial spotlight effect to the building only, and change the sky yo a evening golden hour sky as well, but the sky I have now got sorted thanks to you, I just have to work out how the hell do the rest!!!!!!! regards Alistair

Hi, question: In my project in the edit window, I put only 1 clear sky graphic above 1 video clip. When I merged them for Fusion, 5 MediaIn nodes and 4 Merge nodes popped up making it a confusing mess. What am I doing wrong, is this tutorial only for multiple layers?
great tutorial, just a question how do i use this that i can seperatly color grade the elements in the color page? i fiddling around to get seperated clips in the color page. any help?
Love ya finding sone thing like that😀😀😀
Glad you found it!
My images have alpha from 3d render and now my static environment is way too dark after the lumakeyer. How can I fix it?
Thank you by the way
감사합니다.
top!
So ur the best human being ever now aren't u
GRAZIE😍
Thank you
You're welcome
Great content. Maybe not a huge audience, but really inteligent. TY for helping me a lot. I'm a FPV drone pilot and i wanted to do some sick montage.
I appreciate that. Thank you :) Cheers!
Welldone boy
Thank you!
Why when I make a compound fusion clip my foreground shot is just a black image?
my camera is moving and I notice that the sky is moving more than it should. How do you resize the tracking line?
Great brother, keep it up.
Thank you!
@@JamieFenn i think i have got my mentor
Oh yea who? ;)
@@JamieFenn you
Hey Jamie. Thanks a lot Man for all your tutorials. I love it! One Question. My System is very slow with the DaVinci Programm. I have a Macbook with 16 RAM. Do you know what I can do?
Hmmm look at the required davinvi resolve computer specs up on google. I am on a MacBook pro with 16 gb of ram so you should be fine. Optimize your media and change project settings for maximum performance.
@@JamieFenn Ok thanks for your support. So I would try it soon. :) Cheers
Moon node can be added just before planartranform1 node after sky one... and another merge node right there!
Anyways great video like to view more video's 👍
Clean tutorial
Yep that works too 😁
Just trying to learn some quadeca type music videos because I want to start making music lol very helpful!
Glad I could help!
Great tutorial, thanks for this!
However if I put the sky into the scene from the media pool in the fusion tab, the final composition gets the size of the sky picture and its much bigger then my footage. Any idea how to fix this?
add a transform node and change the size of the photo down to your liking.
how would you adjust this for the night sky?
well it depends on the shot really.
For some odd reason when I create a new Fusion clip with my sky and my video clip, everything turns out overexposed??! Help 😅
whenever I try and click on the invert option it doesn't check it. Know why?
hey man quesiton for you have you ever has a computer shut off while rendering on resolve? any idea what they could be happens with longer videos
Never for me.
I Never used planar Tracker in Davinci and now i know how, thanks to you.
Happy to help!
Great. Tuto Jamie, thanks a lot.
Moon seems to be infront clouds. How to fix that ?
Layer it on the background arrow on the merge node instead of foreground!
This is awesome 👏 thank you for very detailed tutorial. but what if i want to put the moon behind the clouds, how to delete the sky? Because now looks not very realistic
R. K. I totally agree haha. I did that to show a clear example. If you wanted to do that You would just layer clouds in front of it as well. Or place the moon behind the clouds depending how transparent they are. It’s all up to you.
Super great tutorial, as always! Kind of a random question, but what are you using to show your ram usage on the top bar? (If that's what it is)
a317131 1 thank you!!! it’s called memory clean 😉👍🏼
@@JamieFenn thanks!
Nice and detailed! Thumbs up
Was wondering if you just put the moon layer merged together with the clouds didn't you get the same results as copying the planner data?
Ohh and if you can do fusion tuts about how to make templates like your intro or similar that would be awesome. Thanks!
rb-visuals thank you!!! the moon would need a merge layer to combine them.
Is there a way to remove any type of background even if there are different colours or moving objects in davinci resolve?
Love your content btw you're the most professional and most knowledgeable.
Edit: I'm not sure If I explained they correctly. What I'm trying to do is do like a green screen thing but without a green screen. I'm looking for a way to do this with pretty much any type of clip even with multiple things going on at once in davinci resolve. Maybe I just have to get Adobe after effects or photoshop.
A green screen is meant to be a green screen for a reason. Its a head ache without it. You would have to mask a ton or use luma and delta keyers depending on the situation. If you're trying to do something that requires a green screen, then you should use one lol
Can you color grade prior to starting the fusion process or after?
Before during and after.
hey man like the video. I have two seaperate video's i want to combine in one. I didnt use green screen. Because I made a studio look like a cafe. and filmed a real cafeshot a wall and want to replace it with a white wall. Is it possible?
Yes, Lots of rotoscoping. Would be much faster and easier to just use a greenscreen.
Have just began with Resolve. Does this works in the free version, or only in the Studio version?
Subd to your channel btw
Should work fine in free version.
In my case after LumaKey I got some of the images still sticking out from the background. How would you advise to remove them? Can I do colorcorrection?
Not sure what you mean. You may have to do a mask on the luma keyer
@@JamieFenn I guess this is what I need to try, thanks a lot, this might be a solution.
Do the color brightness have to match? Struggling with people moving in the frame
To make it look more realistic. Yes
3:50 what do I press to zoom in?
superb ... new sub from me great work explained well ...
Awesome Chris thanks so much!!!
Been learning Fusion for only a few weeks now but have been using davinci for about 10 months, I have mimicked your composite with my own footage but i have the moon partly in front of the mountains, How can i hide the parts of the moon that move behind the mountains
thank you
Just switch the moon to be in the background behind the mountains by switching the inputs on that merge node
of course, so simple thinkng of it. Many thanks. been watching some of your first videos and love the way you have kept to the same layout / presentation, thanks again
@@JamieFenn
Great stuff! Thanks Jamie.... Do you have any full courses to take a beginner to advanced?
Thanks Richard! Yes definitely! czcams.com/play/PLjgai-5_Ef9oicq2JxRnrU1nRJ9Zg_Rra.html
@@JamieFenn Holy shit, and it's free! Thank you! So once again a night without sleep I guess :)
Very Cool, Thank You!!! this would seem most useful when the sky is blown out to show as much detail in the landscape. When I try this the borders are bright and thresholding doesn't work since it will introduce clouds into the actual landscape. Have you encountered this and how can it be addressed? maybe sharpening the original image a bit, I did not sharpen ahead of time.
It just depends on the clip.. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt depending on clouds, exposure, dynamic range of the camera..
Jamie Fenn thanks Jamie for taking the time to respond. I’ll figure it out, Davinci Resolve can do it I bet, I simply need to learn the tool. Great video, yields a ton of creative thought.
when i click invert & adjust the lummance so it only showing the new sky in the sky. it only fills a small portion in the corner. how do i get it to fill the entire sky?
add a resize node
how can you zoom in while doing the polygon? Everytime I click on the picture it makes a new point with the polygone
Keyframe the zoom in the inspector.
@@JamieFenn thanks for your reply 🙏
*nice vdo*
Thanks :D
