Even tho I rlly liked the game, I still like this vid a lot. But I think I saw some stuff differently though because I see a lot of people say this online. Why does everyone think Abby and her friends are presented as angels, but Joel is shown to be some bad guy? If anything, Abby is basically shown to be nothing but a killing machine with no emotion until she discovers Lev which helps her to see humanity. Also Joel isn’t shown as some evil guy; he just did something that Ellie rightly disagreed with. Does that make Joel evil?

@@OmarAhmed-wd5pd because after they killed Joel they then spend the rest of the game making all of them seem like good people. Im all for humanizing the antagonist for the audience to relate but they truly fought to make sure it was in your face that they were innocent and only did this one thing and Joel was in the wrong all along. And now Ellie became just as bad as him when fueled with anger. Basically made the whole situation more black and white than it should be.

@@ItzJusArock I don’t think they tried to convince us that any character is ‘good’ or ‘bad’ or ‘innocent’ or whatever. It was never shown that what Abby did was good; she literally tortured and killed a man, and still afterwards has absolutely no closure whatsoever literally having nightmares about the whole situation for almost the entirety of her section. Actually, a big part of the game is that what she did was bad, and only after helping Lev and Yara did she achieve closure and have a good dream. Yes, what she did was shown to be JUSTIFIABLE, but that doesn’t mean that she and her friends are GOOD. Just like how Ellie killing Abby is justifiable, but not necessarily good. In not killing Abby, Ellie avoids the situation Abby went through with killing Joel in that Ellie would have not achieved closure, and only by ‘forgiving’ can she really move on

@OmarAhmed-wd5pd I meant to respond to this earlier but I feel that the sequence of events throughout the game was specifically so overtime we can sympathize and understand Abby along with her group. Which again I'm not mad at that it's the fact that within that they made Ellie and Joel to look like the evil wrongdoers of the game (whether intentional or not). And personally that doesn't sit right with me knowing what we know about both of their past. Plus the fact that it's a apocalypse. So for Abby to get her revenge and even get a redemption arc after having no remorse for it yet Ellie has to learn the hard way that revenge is bad seems very hypocritical and counterproductive to me.

@@ItzJusArock Abby and Ellie have the exact same redemption arc, but they are just at different stages. Abby killed Joel in the most brutal way possible and NOTHING changes. She doesn’t get peace (i.e. you can see that from her dreams) and she is left with the same loss of her father. She loses everyone she loves as a result. ALL her friends die. Her relationship with Owen dies. Everything is gone. Only when she saves Yara and Lev do things start to go up for her. She could’ve made the same mistake again and killed Ellie in the theatre but it is Lev that stops her from going down that path. Compared to Ellie, Joel is taken from her, and in her quest for revenge she too loses EVERYONE. Dina, Jesse, and Tommy is a shadow of himself. Only once she reaches Abby and has her near death, does Ellie realise, through her last conversations with Joel, that killing Abby won’t bring her peace. Just how Abby commuted a good act and saved Lev who ultimately prevents her from making a mistake, Joel’s good act to look after Ellie stops her from making the mistake of killing Abby. Whilst Ellie does hate Abby and wanted to kill her, all along it was really the fact that she hated herself for not forgiving Joel before he was taken from her.
Also, of course Ellie looks evil from Abby’s perspective, just as Abby looks evil from Ellie’s, but it’s about rising above that.
