Celtic fans loved him from the start as a person. It's a working class support and we liked Ange as a man. Also liked the way he handled the media. We weren't sure how good he'd be as a coach but the match going fans were right behind him from the off because of how he came across.

It’s the form we have found , since ange has been around 🎶
"Big man" or "Big Yin" is used in Scotland in a similar way to the way "Mate" is used in Australia
Anyone of even just slightly above average height is "Big yin" or "Big man" and of course if you actually know their name (as in this case) it becomes "Big Ange"
It's very much a term of endearment

Been watching Celtic since I was a kid being born, bred and still residing in Glasgow.
It has been a joy watching The Big Man coming in and getting what Celtic means to all the support right from the jump.
His football is magnificent to watch, he is just such an obviously great bloke and it’s our honour to have him here.

He won’t come back here, the media weren’t like this with him when he left . Mainstream Australia is just jumping on the football bandwagon now. Doesn’t get much attention otherwise. Big man or Big Ange, like someone said, is a term of endearment to someone you hold in high regard...and because he's very big downunder!
We called Jock Stein Big Jock, Billy Connolly is known as the the 'Big Yin' or the Big One....we also called Gordon Strachan, Wee Gordon...cos he was wee, also a term of endearment!
Brilliant manager, great man. But Celtic fans definately accepted Ange, and could see the style of play he was going for very early on and even when we were all over the shop in the first couple of months. There were HUGE changes going on in player availability, and you could still see the bones of what he wanted. It was the rest of the media and others that were critical of Celtic and him. So I think it is important to make that distinction. And also the fans could relate to him early on in terms of how he conducted himself, belief and humility. Mon the Hoops :)

I believe he’s vindicated in his refusal to kowtow to the Lowe’s, senior and junior, who controlled Aussie Soccer Federation and tried to hamstring him as National Coach. His success in Japan and now Scotland is a fitting reward for his abilities.
