JB the auto exhaust brake on the Ram will engage anytime the truck senses an increase in speed from what it was running. It kicks in even going down a gentle grade if the truck senses it is picking up speed. You don’t have to be in cruise control or tap the brake.
Ram cummins will slow towing a trailer, put a trailer on the ford and test it.
A real exhaust brake test is when towing or hauling not empty.
Just bought a new 2023 F350 Tremor, and the exhaust brake is so much worse than my 2019 Ram its laughable. I love the truck but the exhaust brake is one of the only things that really pisses me off!
If you think the 23 sucks you should try 22 and back.
Damn if you think the ford EB is bad… try the GM. I just bought a 2024 duramax…. Like you said about the ford, I absolutely love the truck. And the EB is actually great when you have a heavy load and hit the brake pretty good; but otherwise, it’s almost nonexistent
I liked the Ram exhaust brake more until I figured out how to use the Ford. The Ram slowed me to the point I had to accelerate slightly going downhill. I expected the same from the Ford and was disappointed at first. I learned to push the brake pedal when I find the speed I want to stay at and the Ford will bring me down the hill at that speed. It seems to use a mix of transmission and exhaust brake to do it. I now find the Ford requires less user input (1 brake push) than the Ram (1+ accelerator push). I like them both and think both work well. They are just different. These experiences are when towing about 10k bumper pull.
Ram will do what you just described if you have the engine brake on Auto.
Does the Ford kick in when approaching a Yellow light or when someone suddenly decides they want Burger King instead of Chick-fil-A? So the question is , how does it respond in lower speed traffic? Thanks for responding.
Ram exhaust brake on the Cummins engine is the absolute gold standard. No other exhaust brake comes close! RAM for the win!
I'm liking the 23 Fords
The variable vane turbos will never have much "exhaust" braking. The Ram has a variable volume, so when you need braking the turbo actuator pushes in the plate along the vanes to make the turbo volume extremely small. That puts a lot of backpressure on the exhaust. Also why the Ram pulls at low rpms, turbo spools and provides pressure quickly. Just slowing the truck slightly is not going to work with 15000 pounds pushing you down a steep grade. The Ram will totally control your speed with a push.
Great video! AS far as REGEN.. there are 2 features. One is a full regen that turns on the fans and takes 20ish minutes. That will happen if you only drive around city or lots of stop and go. The other is a soft regen...it uses the exhaust and is activated when the exhaust gets hot enough. I have 6K on mine and only have gotten a soft regen. Hope this info helps!
Ram exhaust brake is still superior in my opinion. Don’t like the idea of having to press the brake to engage it. Especially a deleted ram like mine is. Sounds like a jet engine and seems to work even stronger when it’s deleted.
It absolutely works better when the truck is deleted. The Exhaust Brake is the only thing I miss from my Ram...besides the sound of a Cummins
Just orders my ‘25 f350 lariat with HO. This video makes me feel even better
They haven't even started building 24 yet. Lol
My wife hates the sound of my exhaust break. She says it sounds like a jet taking off lol! I think it sounds more like a giant bottle rocket myself😂
Great video good Comparison on the improvement of Ford Truck!
I'm in the dumpster rental business and my truck is. 2022 Ram 5500 and the bosses son just got a 2023 Ford F-600. I drove his Ford for a couple days and the exhaust brake and tow haul mode feel almost non existent compared to my Ram. The Ram feels like a proper semi Jake brake (wish it had adjustable levels).
Are they going to redesign that horrendous front end next year??
The chevy front end 😁?
@@MrStaybrownno the found on road dead front end 😊
Unfortunately not until 2026.
Are you going to troll on every video? Gm looks like shit though 👌
Now ya gonna make me cry... LOL. I might be an old Odd Duck, I really like the Ford Ft End and until recently have never been a Ford Fan. Chevy has had their oddities over the years on Ft Ends, and Ram is aged like a PT Cruiser, old style.
A Ford Diesel Tech indicated it applies Eng Brake strength depending on multiple variables. Tow mode and/or manual applies more Eng Brake when needed. I view this as an improvement overall, using technology to produce gains in broader ways in addition with larger brakes & materials too. Ram has accomplished similar... Ford is catching up on this one.
No comparison. I use the brakes alot more on my 23 f450 h.o vs my 21 Ram 3500 h.o . The Ford is a powerhouse and gets better fuel mileage. I run commercial so it does matter when your running 2 trucks 125,000 miles plus a year.
I saw the title of the video and just laughed. Come on man! Who Work…. Ram
According to Ford owners manual, brake in period is 1000 miles. You can find it on the entertainment screen.
I have a 2023 F350 DRW and I really like how the engine break works on the 2023.
I have a 2017 350 at 98k miles purchased new. Ive been in the shop off and on for the last 3 months. My exhaust brake squeaks when i turn it on and the dealer cant figure out why.......real poopy when i bought the truck for towing 10k trailer. Love the power but the engine break naggs worse than my wife.
Ram FTW. Not even close.
no they didn't and yes RAM still the GOAT
There was nothing wrong with the engine brake system. If a person never driven the other brands and had nothing to compare to, what would be the issue?
Ram hasn’t been outdoing anyone for the last half decade
Can you hear it
Not big on that front end
Ram exhaust break has been king and will remain at the top
Ford digital gauge cluster is very boring and looks like it has graphics from the 90s
Another troll comment… it shows you way more info than GM does 🤡
Yea except you cant hear it, and it doesnt sound like a Jake
Still a ford 😅
Exhaust brakes are for people that don’t know how to haul
they are for people that care about their lives and others
But how about people that can't spell??
Found the moron of the comments
Brakes 👍👌 make sure you tell that to all the truckers so they get a good laugh
