    I think it's funny how when Morse went up to bat, the broadcasters were talking about how it would have been smarter to have a player who's a better lead-off hit. Then after he tied it up they were talking about how smart it was to match him up with the pitcher.

    • @miggizle85
      @miggizle85 Před 9 lety +2

      No they were saying it prior to him hitting the HR. They said he wasn't your traditional leadoff pinch hitter but that clearly Bruce Bochy was hoping that Morse "ran into one". Harold even said he liked how Bochy had matched Morse up with Nishek the day prior and that gave Morse the advantage of having seen his pitches already. Make no mistake... Harold and Verducci are no chumps. They provide awesome analysis.

    This at-bat changed the game in more ways than one. Hitting the home run of course tied it, but it kept Duffy on the bench for any possible pinch run/hit scenario later on if needed, which is lethal when in the hands of someone like Bochy. After that shaky top of the 9th the Giants escaped with the game tied, there wasn't a save situation to put Rosenthal in so Matheny put in Wacha who hadn't pitched in a month with the season on the line. Ishikawa will always be remembered as the guy who sent the Giants to the World Series, but Morse set it all up.

    That place was nuts. Back when San Francisco was a safe, clean city. They've always loved their sports though. And it's funny hearing people talk about the Dodgers-Giants rivalry, but the Giants have won three World Series titles this century and the Dodgers have one fake ring since 1988. So it doesn't matter how many division titles phony LA wins.

    This maybe my fav hr of all time! Heres why:
    1. Last game michale more came off the bench the last game and didnt get a hit against the SAME GUY! in SL. Bochy perfectly matched this up and put FULL trust in morse! Morse delivered.
    2. Ive bever cheered this much over a hr EVER I LITERALLY flew outta my set cheering this on.
    3. Michael more was one of my fav player in 2014. He missed a lot of time starting toward the end of the year yet bochy (due to injuries) put him on the postseason roster and he does this OFF THE BENCH!. I actually lived this homer more that ishikawas.

    2014 was such an epic p[layoff run for the Giants. They had that 18inning slugfest with the Nationals, this wonky series with the Cardinals, the 7 game epic with the Royals and lest not forget Madison Bumgarner's dominate playoff run capped off by his Game 7 closer roll on 2 days rest.

    Game 2: Cards down 3-2, Taveras delivers pitch-hit game tying blast down right field line. Giants in the top of the ninth have bases loaded and Sandoval grounds out to pitcher Maness. Wong then hits walk off home run.
    Game 5: Giants down 3-2, morse delivers pitch-hit game tying blast down left field line. Cardinals in the top of the ninth have bases loaded and taveras grounds out to pitcher Affeldt. Ishikawa then hits walk off home run.

    This is the one thing that MLB has over all other national sports. A middle of the pack player can make the biggest impact on the biggest stage if just given the opportunity. You never see Anderson Varejao make a buzzer beating 3 pointer to win the NBA Finals or Marquise Goodwin go off for 9 receptions for 3 TDs in the Super Bowl. It tends to be the bigger names that make the differences in those sports. But in baseball it’s just one on one, pitcher v batter and anything can happen. Michael Morse and Travis Ishikawa for the win to go to the World Series??? Amazing!! Forever Giants legends all because of just a couple bay swings. I love baseball sometimes.
