- From 2010-2015, the San Francisco Giants won three World Series in five years. That's something that no other team this century, not the Red Sox, or the Astros, or the Cardinals, has has been able to replicate. And yet, despite being objectively one of the greatest teams in MLB history, no one seems to be able to figure out exactly how that happened. The Giants won everything--Cy Youngs, MVPs, Gold Gloves, you name it.
So why does it feel like everyone has just forgotten about them?

I include the 2016 Wild Card Game among these - so five situations. The 9th inning collapse against the Cubs is what officially ended the window of the 2010s Giants.

It definitely felt like something super natural was helping these squads, but it’s the only dynasty I’ve ever seen that truly maximized every ounce of themselves. I loved every minute, but know they definitely benefited from a weaker era of baseball. Ring is a ring, but it was the in between of the steroid era and complete analytics that we see today. The 2 teams that won in the odd years (cardinals and red Sox) weren’t by any stretch amazing teams either. 2010-2015 was an era of really a transition of the game.
2010-2019 were truly a blessed decade for sports in the bay are. 49ers almost winning the Super Bowl, sharks we’re an contender along with the A’s , the warriors and winning 3 titles.

I still vividly remember every analyst picking the Tigers to win easily in that 2012 WS. Even during the sweep they were still picking the Tigers before every game. Man that was sweet

I am a long time Giants fan, and my work relocated me to Michigan in 2010. It's no coincidence that they won 3 World Series after I left as I am cursed so they owe me a ring. I did however get to go to Game 3 in Detroit for the 2012 World Series which was awesome. $400 for a bleacher ticket and money well spent.

This era as a bay area sports fan was wild. The giants were winning WS every other year, the 49ers were competing for Super Bowls, Steph Curry and the Warriors were on the rise, the SJ Sharks were competing against stacked teams like the Blackhawks to get to the Stanley Cup, hell even the A’s were winning 90 ish games a year. Wish I would’ve appreciated those moments more.
As much as I enjoyed the Warriors basketball during the dynasty years, nothing can beat the Giants' dynasty era, in my opinion.

Definitely not forgotten. The pitching was solid. Their top three were The Freak, Cain and Bumgarner. That’s lethal. Offensively they may not have been a juggernaut, but all of the pieces were there to get the job done.
Not to mention MadBum going in absolute godmode in 2014 and derailing the Royals’ magical run.
That Buster Posey guy wasn’t too shabby either.

Each playoff run, they had a god-mode pitcher who the other teams couldn't figure out whenever they matched up against him. In 2010 it was Lincecum. In 2012, it was Ryan Vogelsong. And 2014 of course it was Bumgarner.

Lifelong Giants fan here.. those playoff runs were magical. Never did I feel like they were out of any series. Glad I got to witness that greatness. Their playoff appearance in 2021 just didn’t feel like that same magic. I don’t know how to explain it.. but that Giants dynasty from 10-14 was truly special.
I think you'd be lying if you thought in 2012 they were going to beat the Reds after getting squashed at home in the first 2 games and then had to go on the road to win 3 against them. I might believe you if you happened to be in Cincinnati in the locker room to hear Pence's speech though.
My Grandfather (Papa) was a lifelong Giants fan but sadly passed away in 2009. Since then, the Giants did what this video says, the Warriors have multiple championships and the Niners and made it to multiple conference championships and a super bowl. I don’t think it’s a coincidence, it’s clearly Papa doing his thing from heaven for his favorite teams.

This era I think is really indescribable to anyone not from SF, I watched nearly every game in both 12 and 14 and the energy and effort that every player put in is really what made the team. I think the lack of any heinous ego really allowed us to play as a team, it really felt like those “randos” were just players who enjoyed being there and wanted to contribute in any way possible. The amount of iconic moments that stand out in my memories are innumerable and this team is something I will truly never forget.

@@Jack20555 I am with ya, but that 2012 season was something else. Matt Cain's perfecto, Buster MVPosey's comeback, and the arrival of Hunter Pence, as well as being down 2-0 and 3-1 against the Reds and the Cardinals, then there came the sweep in the championship. Crazy season!

Joe Buck got a lot of criticism for his Giants games (and criticism of lot of his calls for a lot of teams), but he had a few of his all-time best calls in that clinching game. The Morse call was fantastic.

Those Giants proved a few things: 1) pitching/defense is everything, and 2) hitting a ton of home runs doesn't gurantee everything. That starting rotation, that bullpen, and their position players (esp up the middle), and clutch hitting was the magic formula. That bullpen had every pitcher for every situation.
As a dodgers fan, I definently didn't forget about the Giants run. This is the major thing the Giants have over us in our team's rivalry, and trust me my friends that are Giants fans haven't been able to let me live it down 😭

Most lovable group of misfits and castoffs. As a giants fan those 2002 giants is the great lineup that the giants sent to the World Series but the 2010, 2012, 2014 will be the greatest team they sent to the World Series
Life long Giants fan here. I was 20 years old in 2010 so these three championships were in some of the best years of my life and I’m thankful somebody finally made a video which allowed me to relive that stretch of baseball. As Giants fans we understand that what we saw those years were special beyond belief and that’s truly enough to make up for the lack of attention nationwide. Still can’t thank you enough for shining some light on the lovable dynasty knows as “The Misfits”. Say what you want….that team would’ve beaten the ‘27 Yankees if it came down to it. They just had….”it”.
Let’s not forget their impeccable 2nd base playoff performances Marco Scutaro & Joe Panik made some unbelievable plays throughout the playoffs

One of my core memories I have as a child was watching the Giants win the world series in 2014. My family had just moved from the bay due to financial reasons, a month before the playoff season began. We were going through a rough patch at the time, and really needed a win. I'll never forget the moment Pablo Sandoval caught that pop fly and gave another world series back to San Francisco. God I love this team.

I'm old enough to remember the 1989 and 2002 WS losses, and you are absolutely correct that most of us didn't expect this dynasty to come along. The 2010 bullpen was out of this world. There were 7 guys who could put down just about anyone. 4 of those guys were around for all 3 world series', the bullpen was a major contributor to this dynasty.

The Giants played in at least 6 elimination games in their playoff run, they one 3 straight elimination games down 2-0 to the reds reds and won 3 elimination games being down 3-1 to the cardinals
Can also technically include the 2014 wild card game since it is just one game, as well as game 7 against the Royals for a total of 8 elimination games
The thing about those Giants teams is that they were TEAMS. The typical dynasty tends to have a crazy, once in a lifetime superstar as the face of the franchise. MJ Bulls, Tom Brady Patriots, Steph Curry Warriors, Derek Jeter Yankees, etc. The Giants never had a crazy player like this to represent them. They didn't need to because of how well they worked together and that's why I think those lists tend to "forget" about them.
One of my favorite things about those Giants teams is that, for all that they did have legitimate superstars (Lincecum, Posey, Madbum), every single one of ‘em got massive contributions from role players that, for any other franchise, would have been forgotten, but have become part of Giants legend.
2010 had Cody Ross, Pat Burrell, and Aubrey Huff (although he’s since managed turn himself into the Giants equivalent of Curt Schilling).
2012 had Ryan Vogelsong, Marco Scutaro, Sergio Romo, and the introduction of the Reverend Hunter Pence.
And 2014 had Travis fuckin Ishikawa, Santiago Casilla, Jake Peavy, and Michael Morse.
Years removed from this run, I realize the Giants franchise wasn’t about making the most dominant team that would be the top top valued team monetarily according to magazines, but more so to field a very competitive team AND really endear themselves to the Bay Area. So it’s a dynasty in our heart and we’re that much more attached to those players and stories.
As a Reds fan, trust me I’ll never forget the 2010s Giants dynasty.
I remember overlooking the 2014 Giants when the Pirates made the playoffs that year. The Pirates were hot and entered the playoffs after a great September while the Giants just sort of coasted in to the playoffs.
Scrappy was probably the best word to describe those teams. They had dominant pitching from top-down, great defense, & clutch hitting. Never backed down from anyone and just played ball the way they wanted. It was unreal being a Giants fan in the city at the time, come October the whole city & franchise was locked in. Those Giants teams had so many clutch moments; Scutaro going god mode, Ishikawa's walk-off, Morse's pinch-hit HR, & my all-time favorite pitch in Romo freezing Miggy with an 89mph fastball.

Possibly the most exciting time to be a Giants fan. Such beautiful memories and many great games.
They were a dynasty unlike any other. Not a super team or an expensive one, but a bunch of heroes who refused to lose. That alone makes them special.

Those giants teams are the reason I started to watch baseball. Tim was my favorite player during that time.

The Giants FO had an uncanny knack for acquiring hitters who immediately went on unusual peaks in production during the early-to-mid 2010s. Talking guys like Cody Ross and Marco Scutaro; we don't win 2010 without the former and 2012 without the latter. It's actually insane how every year we had this one guy who had a very mid or even below average career, _except_ during that 2nd half of the season + the postseason we needed them the most.

It’s extremely fascinating to me how they faced a number of teams that were absolutely loaded and just dismantled all of them with ease. Just go back and look at those 2010 Phillies and rangers teams. Ridiculously stacked. The 2012 cardinals were the raining champs and stacked, and the tigers were staggeringly loaded. I think you did mention a couple of things that should be addressed. I do think that there are a number of plays where the ball inexplicably bounces the giants way in those postseasons. However, a lot of those games and series weren’t even close, so I don’t think they made as much of a difference as one might think. You could also argue that the fact that they were always looked over so much against these lineups full of stars caused mental errors from those teams. When you’re expected to handle what’s considered a much lesser team, but they’re handling you, you get rattled and can mentally break down. I also think their lack of offense can be attributed to their park. I think some of those guys would’ve put up better numbers had they played in parks with shorter walls. But you’re definitely correct about their clutch factor. The amount of times every guy no matter how good they were in the regular season was able to step up and make huge plays in clutch situations was remarkable. I was actually just thinking the other day about which of the three teams was the best, and i actually think I’d rank them in chronological order. I think 2010 easily had the most offensive firepower and in my opinion, they had the most impressive run. Being able to do what they did against those Phillies and rangers pitching staffs were impressive. They were saying halloday and lee were unhitable. Then I’d say they had the best pitching as well, with prime lincecum and Cain, who was dominant in the 2010 postseason and better than he was in the 2012 postseason. I think their team clutch factor was the best as well. So when I take into account that I think they had the best offense, the best pitching, and they played the best competition, I think they were the best of the 3.

Both 2010 and 12 came with 90 wins and I wouldn't call it even years. 2014, yes, but a good World Series run.

Giants came very close in 01 to go back to the playoffs. They went neck to neck with the Diamondbacks that year.

As a Giants fan, I sometimes think how the hell we pulled this off. Didn't have what you'd expect a dynasty team would have. I believe it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter if you have star players or a great offense. It doesn't matter how you got there. If you won 3 titles in 5 years. You are a dynasty and you will go down as legends. Living in the Bay Area, this run is brought up all the time with our sports. But if we go elsewhere, there's a good chance people won't recognize this team as a dynasty which is a real shame. I remember at least 80% of these seasons and they were so fun to experience. I so badly need another WS title just to feel it all again!

Born a Giants fan, since the 80's, this run was such a boost, starting with "dear Dodger fan/foe: how many have yall won lately?" The Giants ran on the Formula Pitching and Defense wins games, with clutch hitting and top notch coaching and it worked.
Became a giants fan back during the giants magical runs back in the early 2010s. Used to deliver pizza and they’d always be broadcasting the games on the radio during my night shifts here in hawaii. Those times were amazing and the teams were awesome too. There was a time where whenever the even year would roll around, you could pen us in for the chip
They won 3 World Series while I was a young teen. There is no team in any sports that will ever have my loyalty more than the giants.
Other than the season where Sosa and McGwire were chasing 63, the 2010's Giants were my favorite seasons of baseball. I am sad that they aren't seen as a great dynasty but like you said, they don't fit the bill of teams like that. They were the misfits. I loved those misfits and mostly Big Time Timmy Jim.
They were just clutch as heck and mentally strong. And the most dominant pitching staff equal to the Atlanta Braves. And the defense to back that up, with Crawford, Belt, Posey, Sandoval, etc.
This was very well done. I was a resident of San Francisco at the time the Giants stacked these championships, and it was just a magical few years. I know a lot of long-time fans were waiting for eternity for the Giants to get at least one WS in the city of SF, and then they got 3 in 5 years. Astonishing. Thanks for the retrospective.

My wife and I bought two season tickets in 2010. After seeing a perfect game, 2012 Game 7 and four World Series game wins, we gave up our seats in 2014, thinking there was no way they were going to make another run (and after the Giants had quadrupled the cost of our seats). I'm so sad we missed the 2014 run, but man we saw a lot of great baseball out of that team. Will never forget watching Scutaro with his arms outstretched in the NLCS clincher in the poring rain. Still have the score sheets I kept during Cain's perfecto and the night Petit retired 26 straight. Or Pastor, the usher in Section 104, who would high five our 2 year old son every game. Just an amazing team.

The win over the Tigers was when Barry Zito earned his contract 10x over. Clutch win against the Cards who were hitting leftys like crazy & then beating Verlander with some help from Pandamonium.
Madbum though trancended this plain of existence, not only beating the Royals as a pitcher but providing his own offence which really cemented Pitchers Who Rake
Bumgarner was dominant in 2014. Giants also other starters like Lincecum and Cain, who appeared unhittable at times. Very deep pitching staffs. A big reason they didn't have a major power bat, is the stadium they play in. Balls die in SF in distance. Bonds hit lots of homers there, but we all know he was juiced.
I hate that argument that because they never won back to back that it’s not a dynasty. Absolutely ridiculous logic. I think it’s even more difficult to bounce back from a losing season or a season where you miss the playoffs and win it all. They did that 3 times… They also had the most impressive come from behind facing elimination feats ever, back to back series vs CIN and STL, and that was epic. They were a defensive pitching team with a future HOF’er in Brandon Crawford SS and great 1B Brandon Belt. Madison Bumgarner is a legend. I’ve never seen anything like his 2014 WS performance and I probably never will. I remember watching, taking a break from my work shift trying to catch the end of the game, and I thought for sure we lost… or that we would lose. I stayed in the pizza place and was late back from lunch break, on purpose, because I had to finish watching what I’ll never forget. I witnessed the craziest move, Bochy put Bumgarner in to close the last 4 innings and he completely iced the Royals hitters. I couldn’t believe it… and then it seemed like there was hope for KC in the 9th, but all it took was a battle and a pop up, and Pablo Sandoval fell after he secured the catch, and did exactly how I was feeling… finally, we got that mf out…
That was one of my all time favorite sports moments.

Funny enough, everyone is already crowning the Astros as a dynasty despite only winning two WS five years apart (one of which has a cheating scandal) and lost other two WS appearances.
Really liked the video winning 3 championships in any sport is truly amazing so it sucks to see this team get overshadowed.

When Travis Ishikawa hit that home run, I screamed so loud. Such a clutch Home Run.
As a high school dropout who got a Nintendo Wii (featured Wii Sports and Sports Resort) as a graduation present in 2010, that game Wii Sports got me into baseball and sports in general. Yeah, I know, the representation of baseball in Wii Sports was odd but that was how I got into baseball. I asked my dad, who is a sports fan, what his favorite baseball team and he said the San Francisco Giants, then he was showing his shirts and hats of his team, and I went, "Oh yeah, that logo I've seen before." I always thought the Giants had the coolest logo in baseball, lol. The next few days, while I got into watching baseball and learning about it, we went to the sports store and checked out some Giants merch my dad bought me. No job for me due to the 2008 financial crisis so that was cool of my dad. The first baseball players I followed were Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain, Buster Posey, and Brian Wilson. I remember how good The Freak was, and man, he was something else. I also went on a 1-month trip (mid-September to mid-October) with my grandmother of my mom to Modesto and Fort Bragg just to see families and the beauty of these Californian places, and then, there was the final game of the season against the Padres for the playoffs berth. How amazing that was! Grandma, Aunt, and I watched a hard-fought series against the Braves. Went back home to Dad's when the Phillies series started, and watched the Giants making the trip to the World Series. High-scoring game 1, a loss in game 3, series-winning moments in game 5, then the rest was history. Made me a Giants fan more than I could ever imagine, even in my first year of following/watching baseball. Got a black Giants jersey of The Freak and a WS Champions hat shortly after that victory, and they were well money spent. Watching the parade on the television was worth it.
2011, I was looking forward to watching the Giants again, and then there came a season-ending injury for Buster Posey. Bought a home Posey jersey right before that game and man, I felt devastated. The season was remembered for a lack of hitting, some bad pitching, and injuries. Carlos Beltran came but too late to save the Giants for the playoffs push. Of course, I got to see Brandon Crawford's first at-bat with a grand slam. Brandon Belt in his first season with the Giants, too. Other than that, it was a very frustrating season.
2012, I was looking forward to watching the team be good, and they started out rocky. Lincecum still had a problem with that player from the Diamondbacks and had a down year. Also, I witnessed the NL West race, Matt Cain's perfecto, Buster MVPosey's comeback, the arrival & absence of Melky Cabrera, Hunter Pence's arrival, a comeback against the Reds, another comeback against the red-hot Cardinals, and a World Series sweep against the Tigers. Wow, what a season! That was arguably the best Giants season I have ever seen, and it was crazy! Bought a WS Champions hat a few days after that victory as well.
2013 season, I didn't watch much because I felt the Giants went off a little, and then, they fell flat. Another down year for the Freak. The only memorable thing I remember that season was Angel Pagan's home run and The Freak's first no-hitter (glad I got to witness that game my dad was watching on television), that was it. Nothing good about that season, really.
2014, I didn't do much and I gave up watching the Giants since I got my first job. I got a text from my dad while I was at work and he texted me about The Freak's second no-hitter, and then I went like "Wow, another one?!" We got Michael Morse who could hit. Another down year for The Freak. However, the Giants were an injury-plagued team that went on winning 88 games for a Wild Card spot, and it was an even year. Before the playoffs started, I had a very low expectation for the Giants because of injuries. While I didn't cheer watching my team playing, I got to witness Madison Bumgarner's shutout against the Pirates as well as a soul-crushing grand slam from Brandon Crawford. In the next round against the Nationals, I got to witness Brandon Belt's home run in the 18-inning game and won the series so I started cheering my team the whole way. They beat the Cardinals with solid pitching and timely hitting. That final moment in game 5 got me hyped the heck up and I screamed! Had a hard-fought series against the red-hot Royals in 7 games in the World Series and I was so nervous during the whole stressful game 7. Got to witness the historic pitching performance from Madison Bumgarner the whole postseason and I am grateful for that. Bought a WS hat along with my first Giants sweatshirt a few nights after that championship victory.
How sweet it was when it comes to 3 in 5?!?!?! I consider 2010 for a magical postseason run and 2012 for a historic season. Thank you to the San Francisco Giants for the wonderful era and that was something I will never forget. Black and orange for life!🖤🧡 #GoGiants #SFGiants

Great video! Giants fans were so blessed during these runs. It was so special, so magical. And the consistent lack of respect that they got from the writers and analysts made those victories even sweeter. Sweeping those tigers is absolutely the wildest part. Kung Fu Panda Sandoval hit 3 homers in one game off of Cy Young level Verlander. Miggy won the triple crown that year too. Watching Giants series' end on the opposing teams best hitter going backwards will never get old.
You should definitely make a video of the 2011 cardinals. The fact that they even made the playoffs in the first place was a miracle and were down to their last strike twice in the World Series and still won. I would for sure check that out too
I remember being 10-12 years old and loving these teams. Especially Pablo Sandoval. Because I love pandas and his nickname is panda (I was 10 years old ok).
Good video but idk about forgotten maybe by the league but us giants fans sure haven't forgot and as a die heart giants fan I remember every last one of those WS wins 😂. I'll never forget being at the 2010 parade it was insane I was looking for my looking for my sister not realizing we were on the same corner but couldn't see each other thur the mass of people Good times good times 🤣
People might not think the Giants was good in those World Series, but I'll take 3 World Series in 5 years over being good any day of the week. That Giants team was fun to watch too with all the amazing defensive plays, the timely hitting, seeing different players stepping up and having unlikely heroes. Seeing Hunter Pence getting a single off of a pitch that broke his bat and the ball hit his bat like 3 times before going to the outfield. Lol Those Giants team was just fun to watch and very unpredictable too.
You forgot to mention Bumgarner. He was always a solid regular season pitcher. 3.13 era and averaged about 14 wins a season but when the playoffs started he became an entirely different player. Dudes career is the exact opposite of Kershaw.

Sergio Romo was a great reliever that was a key to San Francisco's World Series ✌️ victories! Great pitcher and great guy.
They are not forgotten by Cardinals fans. That 2012 NLCS comeback, which only occured b/c Barry Zito pitched the 1 great game under that huge contact they gave him in Game 5 of the 2012 NLCS, is what stopped the Cardinals from going to 3 consecutive World Series, which hasn't been done since the 90's Yankees.
Also the 2014 NLCS, not as competitive as a Cardinals fan sadly, also blocked a Cardinals Wiorld Series trip. These two NLCS meetings and the one in 2002 are why the Giants are my 2nd most hated team in baseball. Red Sox are 1st and Cubs are third.
The Giants success in the playoffs boils down to a few things that have always held true pitching/defense and clutch hitting. They had a lights out diverse bullpen in an age when everyone else had 1 type (flame throwers). They had a manager whose specialty was managing pitching staffs, especially the bullpen. They had an offense that did not rely on home runs, when most other teams did and still do. Home runs tend to dry up in the postseason and left a lot of teams that faced the Giants dead in the water. The Giants pitchers did not give up home runs, they were always top 5 in the league for fewest allowed. You put all these together and it makes for a post season juggernaut.
Dusty Baker always had issues managing his pitching staffs. Although I won't fully blame 2002 on him, that was a burnt out bullpen he had and Nen was so hurt but tried to gut his way through the WS with a shredded shoulder, to no avail. He never threw another pitch in baseball after that season, he was permanently ruined.
You have to be that good in order to win 3 championships in 5 years. Unfortunately the history people consider them boring. To win championships without flashy players shows why it's called a team sport.
The bullpen was also a massive piece to our success. Javier Lopez, Jeremy Affeldt, Sergio Romo, and Santiago Casilla. Of course Brian Wilson too. I can’t believe how spoiled we were to have such a good bullpen for those handful of years.
Another crazy point is clutch pitching from dudes that were kind of a no-show in the regular season like Ryan Vogelsong and Barry Zito.
I feel really bad for the players of this dynasty. They won three World Series, but none of them had the longevity to put up Hall of Fame numbers. In my opinion, every World Series-winning team deserves at least one Hall of Famer, and yet many of the teams of this century look like they will have none. Posey has a shot but that’s basically it.

As a Giants fan, I love ❤ several teams over the years. The World Series teams were special. Pitching wins. Getting a bullpen along with way with other players (Huff, Ross, Burrell and bullpen pitchers) and you might do well.

I feel like in the same way that people forget just how insanely good the Cardinals were from 2003-2013 past like that first layer of sight.
Everyone looks at those teams and says Pujols, Edmonds, Rolen, Berkman, Wainwright, Carpenter and Molina.
Those players are all time greats don’t get it twisted.
It’s just that what made their best teams in STL better were other guys.
David Freese was about as consistently clutch over his career as they come. David Eckstein in 2004 is who we were then running our Devil magic through, currently of course it’s Tommy Edman. Isringhausen when consistent was one of the best relievers in baseball BUT, look at the path to get to him over the years. Just a string of really solid guys who would become top tier starters later (see 2011 Reliever Lance Lynn).
It’s the glue of these teams being exceptional that made them great
