  • There are so many different elements to this great story; how the crew came together, the political climate at the time as well as all the stories you'd expect from a crew that went on an Olympic journey together.
Adrian Cassidy, CEO at Ludum acts as host for David Townsend, Ian McNuff, John Beattie and Martin Cross for this special virtual gathering (although as you might expect, it's not difficult to keep the conversation flowing).

And it was so inspirational to see how you guys did it. It was a driver for us at schoolboy level and a real pleasure to even be at the same outings or regattas as you progressed at senior level. I thnk we did a couple of outings together when I was in the youth VIII at training out of Leander when you were also training - we were with Penny Shuter. Ww were boating in 'Carbon Tiger'a bit whippy since Montreal which I recall we raced in at Mannheim, when you were in the fours. (Remember this boat?) What a great conversation and reminiscence. Amazing to see you all on the tube and talking through all those times.

Adrian Cassidy, Have you considered Martin doing maybe a longer doco piece on the resergence of NZ as a rowing superpower. How does a small nation of under 5 Million people become a world rowing superpower? There are lots of theories. I can't think of anyone more engaged than Crossy. Maybe if Sir David Tanner is involved it may be possible to do a bigger project that could maybe attract funding. Just an Idea.
