Bending Physics: Nevera Nürburgring EV lap record onboard |

- Fresh from breaking 23 records in a single day and conquering the world-famous Goodwood hillclimb with an all-time best, the Rimac Nevera today broke the Nürburgring Nordschleife lap record for a production EV, setting a hugely competitive time of 7:05.298!
The Nevera is now among the fastest production cars ever on the famously testing 20.8km-long track - a feat made even more impressive because the Nevera is primarily developed as a hyper GT, rather than a car built to devour racetracks.
Buckle up for the uninterrupted, record-smashing, onboard lap with Croatian racing driver Martin Kodrić.

CONGRATS! Amazing achievement, especially since the conditions were faaar from optimal today! Hope to see you back soon with a sub 7!
I don't think these conditions caused the car to be 6 seconds slower
@Jesko. Watch my video in a bit :) it was too hot today and the tyres were melting.

ICE or EV for the ring? Maybe both (hybrid).
There seems to be a LOT of room for a quicker time. What a crazy machine.
I agree for sure, this lap was far from ideal in a few different areas.
63 minimum speed in Caroussel. Long brake distances...this car needs a COLD track and ambient I'm afraid? It's a lot heavier than Model S Plaid, especially as driven with lots of measuring equipment in the back. I hope that was all worth it. Now come back at fighting weight and get all the late brakes and high minimums.
@@Cloxxki its actually lighter than the Plaid..
@@Cloxxki Yeah dude was barely touching the brakes most of the time, and you can see he is barely able to achieve 100% throttle unless he has a good straight away. They need a better driver. Get Misha in there he'll push it way harder

There is something eerie about something moving that fast and all you can hear is the wind. Very impressive
My thinking... knowing the sheer loudness of most other cars... almost spooky...
It makes it so boring to watch.
It's so fast it looks like the video is sped up!
You can really hear the tires too, I'm sure that helps the driver quite a bit.

Lap times a side, the most remarkable thing about this is how the Nevera just easily reaches its top speed in that straight after just a few blinks.
It's not reaching it's top speed at all, it is limited to 350 because of tyre regulation, the top speed of the Nevera is 258 mph or 415.211 kmh

if you think about that a GT3 RS is 20 seconds faster with 1/4 of the horsepower, it just shows how useless that amount of power is on a track. The car is still completely nuts
On a colder day it may be a lot less useless. Will be curious to one day see how much energy (power * time) the driver could take from the car on a given sector at different temps.
Well the Porsche is a feather compared to the weight of Nevera. EVs are unimaginably dense.
Well yes, too much power is useless on track after a certain point because you can only go that fast before the next corner.

You can tell the heavy weight just by watching the video
Bravo Martine izvanredan uspeh, sve cestitke Rimac timu na izuzetno pripremljenoj Neveri
Sadly the weight is limiting still a lot. This 2000BHP beast is slower than a Porsche Cayman GT4 RS (982 series with 493 BHP) on the Nordschleife (7.04.511 min.) and not even close to a Mercedes-AMG ONE (6.30.705 min.) or Porsche GT2 RS MR (6.38.835 min.). Basically because of the weight. When Rimac will get below 1600 / 1500kg I bet the times are going to be insane. Please don't see this as "hate"... I absolutely love Rimac and the Nevera. I'm just stunned by how much the weight seems to be holding the car back.
Misha commented above. Looks like they did this lap in hot weather and the tires were basically melting🤣. In better conditions it could probably run sub 7 mins
Rimac can made Neverinu or light version with tyres just for tracks - but he wants usable car for travelling... 33 kw or 37 kw battery will be enough for fast lap with dragster tyres... but laptime is not Nevera first purpose
I think that on that track a lot depends on the driver!
@@TheElectricGhost would be interesting to know if the ran the Michelin 4s or a proper track tyre like the cup 2 or cup 2 R, this lap seams kind of slow from my point of view
This car has no downforce, that is the largest issue here, not weight. Though weight would certainly play a role. Personally, I want to see the Speirling do a lap, if its battery can last the distance. It's 600kg lighter than this, has 1000hp, and has a monstrous amount of downforce. Of course, that isn't a road car, but still.
3:34 1:06 6:29 all over the place
4:13 4:52 ouch!
Laptime slower than a Porsche GT3 with 1/4 the power.
Still, props to the driver for this massive display of balls. And to Rimac, for not hiding (like for example Bugatti) and showing us how their car performs at something it was NOT made to do.
The GT3 car probably generates a bit more downforce and since there are lots of corners here it makes sense. And the Rimca is of course lots heavier. But it looks like there is still some time in it.
Porsche has a fraction of Nevera weight. This is 2500kg on the road
@@goranjurkovic6796and only a quarter of its power
@@lukasm.1894 it was running on a quarter of throttle most of the track.
But anyways I would rather have Nevera for my daily driver than Cayman. Hell I would rather have Tesla model S plaid than the Cayman
@@goranjurkovic6796 The Rimac will replace those batteries with solid state ASAP and that'll solve that problem.
Pretty impressive lap considering the weight and i feel like there is room for improvement. Nevertheless you have to give credit to Rimac for actually taking it out to the Nurburgring. Not many hypercar manufacturers have the guts to do that
With lots of info! Really GREAT! It is my favourite racing (with time!) video! Thanks a lot RIMAC! And Congratulations of course!
Congrats Rimac, this record was of course expected. Svaka cast.
Smoken like a true German yawww
Impressive! Tesla Plaid was limited to 180hp only, after about 1 minute of full-throttle power (780KW). That was due to battery over heating (got to 64 Celsius quickly). Rimac must have a battery cooling system which is an order of magnitude better, sustaining more KW for much more time
That is now unexpected.. The Rimac is offcourse bether with battery managment but from the video its clearly coasting along alot of the sections so it doesnt get to hot..
What record? It's quite a bit slower than a GT3RS.
(with a lot of potential though! The driver is great, but I'm sure it can be done faster)

Well done to the whole Rimac team. What an insane machine you've created!
I’m glad I got to experience the ring on my own so I can really take in how amazing this car is and how extreme this lap is. Congrats to all involve.
Svaka cast ekipa!
Watching this feels like with more aero and pushing the car even harder it could easily break the 7 minute mark. Maybe even less than 6:50. Until then, 7:05 is still an incredibly fast time so kudos to the driver for doing it!
Imagine if they made a battery for racing, ie 100 km range only and saved 600 kg weight that way?
Then shave 100 kg luxury stuff and go again, could probably hit 6:30 with some more effort.
More aero = tires would melt.
@@barath4545 smaller battery means less power/performance (most of the time!)
@@barath4545 Not anywhere near the amount of power then. Like 500 hp isn't much compared to 1900hp
@@runnerbaba There are many different cells. Example: the tiny Koenigsegg Regera battery, supplied by Rimac, is good for 700 hp. They could take three of those and save a lot of weight. Well done Rimac!
It is a a pleasure to see the power exceeding 1MW multiple times!
Happy that such a great guy as Martin was the person to get the lap! Awesome person and driver.
I'd honestly have expected faster considering just HOW much faster in a straight line this is vs the Mercedes project ONE, or especially something like a GT3RS. Still a nuts lap to watch though
Remember it was dramatically limited
That’s because weight really means everything at the Nordschleife. There are actually E36 times, which aren’t too far of this time. But still insane car and insane time!
You win Nordschleife with Speed in the Corners, Topspeed is not as important as going fast around the bends. Thats why Porsches are doing so well on the Nordschleife, they dont have high topspeed but they are very fast and stable in the corners
@@kimoykalinago4154No, it is electronically limited on 258 mph. Damn dude, you know nothing.
@@Hans-Yoloi really wonder if any car is ever gonna beat the Porsche 919 EVO, that thing can dominate any track
Congrats to the entire @rimacautomobili team on this record!
Straightline speed and acceleration is out of this world, but I can't help but notice that car struggles holding the speed through curves. I saw Misha mentioning it was hot and tyres were melting and yeah, on colder day tyres would probably struggle a bit less and a bit more time could be shaved-off, but most of the issues for tyres and cornering comes from extremely high weight of the car.
Now it's clear that Nevera can never be made nowhere near as light as ICE track-focused cars, but I'm still wondering if there are any plans to produce at least limited series of more track focused car.
A lot of weight could probably be shaved by stripping the luxury interior, billet svitches, knobs etc.... interior aircon, infotainment system, face-recognition, autonomous driving and similar non-essential computers, sensors, radars, cameras and their wiring etc. Some other components could probably be made lighter too when all the listed stuff would be removed. This would leave more juice for the motors, it would further increase the acceleration and most importantly, less mass means more speed through the curves.... top speed limiter could also be raised a bit more too duet to lower tyre stress.
After all.... all the other brands are mostly sending track-focused versions of their cars, with all non-essentials stripped, to the ring too.
I have mad respect for all those systems incorporated into the car too as I'm sure a lot of time and effort has gone into it. but the truth is, those are non-essential technology demonstrators and they are probably heavily biting into the cars performance.
Congratulations! Greetings from Canada.
For the people complaining about the time. Remember guys weight is everything on a track, and Nevera is heavy AF. This is astonishing result consider it's weight. Congrats to Rimac and it's driver.
its* weight, its* driver.
Heavier than Plaid. Barely ever on full throttle, it's an impressive car for sure. We've not seen close to its full potential, though.
Thats right but I think its wrong to overlook the weight. Hypercars shouldn't weight as much as an SUV. If the price for 2000hp is that it weights 2300kg then there is something wrong.
Don’t forget that the tires were literally melting because of the heat, and the fact that 700 of the Nevera’s 1800 hp is unnecessary for the track too. A car designed to beat track record doesn’t need any more than 1000 hp.
@@zaristarian1200 it's EV and GT, four electric motors and batterys which are not light. There are lighter EVs and track focused but they are comfy as Nevera. It is what it is.

I'd like them do a whole new car. Key feature: hot swappable pack, so it can just continue when a battery is empty. Battery could be lept a bit smaller to save weight then. On specially designed slick it will go faster of course. Weight needs to come down A LOT. Perhaps 1914 hp for track use is just a bit cumberson. And shows it a one trick pony
Congratulations. I've been waiting for the Rimac Nevera to do this.
Is also like to hear the drivers breakdown on how the car performed.
Very fast tank 😂 Battery technology needs a revolution to really make EV cars fun in the corners.
Pretty amazing especially when you consider that this car weighs close to 5,000 lbs.
It is over 5000lbs with driver rollcage and equipment
This is just straight up insane 😮
Wow incredible footage! The power levels expressed in this video are astronomical I can only imagine what it might feel like to be a passenger during this lap .
I reckon a diaper could be in order, shitting yer pants isn’t beyond the realms of the possible
daymn that POV is scary AF!!!!
I love how media promotes Electric cars drag racing 24/7 everywhere, but then you put them on a track and they aint shit.
