Still sad about Mary's passing, she was that extra spice to the vocals. I just feel it, anytime I listen to them. A tragic loss indeed. My introduction to Stereolab: I was in a bohemian type book n music exchange in the Highlands of Louisville Ky., when their music was playing whilst me and my kiddos shopped for video games. I was so moved, I asked the manager about it. The only copy of Dots and Loops was playing. I politely demanded they sell it to me. They granted my wish. This was early January 2003. I am a hard rocker, but I know great music when I hear it. Unbeknownst, Mary was tragically killed a month earlier.
My buddy made me a mixtape in 1998. My new college friend. Then I met a cute guy who played me another album. I’ve been obsessed ever since. Love your story!
this was not long after those gorilla-brains trashed cobra and phases group. you can tell she really means it. amazing to see so much venom in an angel.
Their enemies were and still are our enemies. Conservative right wingers can't stand a good thing, like Stereolab, like Nixon or Reagan, Margaret, Bush-2, Cheney and Trump. Mary was always Right, but they laughed at their enemies
When I have children, I will be sure to dance around my front room with them to this song. It’s so lovely to see more of Mary - she was such an elusive woman, it’s precious to see a glimpse of what her personality was like. She was incredibly sweet and clever :(
The Hansens from Maryborough are a great family and Mary was such a talented young lady . Was in London about 500m from where she was killed and never knew it until sometime later . RIP Mary .
Hahaha! Oh that's great. And so glad they captured that little interview. Extra special. I remember reading in the Reader about these "happenings" on a public access. Never really occurred to me to go down and watch or join in. But moving overseas soon. Aside from deep dish, and our special mix of popcorn, maybe this is an idea I'll bring with me...
Mary was their secret weapon. After she passed Stereolab never reached the heights they had achieved prior again. Kind of like when Teresa Nervosa left the Butthole Surfers.
No. They are still great, Mary is watching over them from the Timeless above this plane their Music windows connect us to. Same happened to the B-52's in their first years after losing such important wing as Cindy's brother, but they kept the torch beaming to new horizons and heights. Mary left so much from their many years of performances and songs creation together, impossible not to recognize her deep influence in the groop, even 2 decades after her so premature passing.
Harvey Wallbanger "Les Yper-Sound" from the Emperor Tomato Ketchup album. There's a video of Stereolab performing it live on TV (Jools Holland's show, I think), look it up, I daresay it's better than the album version.
@Depleted Vibranium Well, I was going to go there, but thought it may have been a bit presumptuous to make that declaration. My first and only time (so far) seeing the Groop in person was during their tour concurrent with the release of ETK. I'd recently purchased that album, along with MAQ, then heard the promos on KUGS (our Uni's radio station) that they would be performing at our campus, just a few days before my birthday in May of '96. On a whim, I treated myself to that concert, and picked up Peng! and Refried Ectoplasm, along with a couple of T-shirts from their merch table, all which I still have. I'd love to have seen them in more recent years, but being young, right in front of the stage in a small venue with both Lætitia and Mary (RIP) just a few feet away, along with those beautiful burbling Moog and droning Farfisa sounds made for a night that I will never ever forget.
I sooooo miss MARY!!!!!!!!!!
WHY?
Stereolab is one of the best bands ever. No argument.
of the 90s, for sure. Them and Supergrasss.
@@davidames1746 Of ever.
I’m glad I was able to see her perform in Stereolab. I was so close to the stage. Her performance is something I’ll never forget. RIP. Respect.

She was the second frontwoman.
I feel her influence went beyond the vocals, Stereolab just wasn't the same after her passing.
RIP Mary :( so sweet
👍❤
"you can sing, play guitar, and fly... youre so talented..."
She’s still playing, singing and flying. We miss you, Mary!
This is too good to be real.
👍😉
omg Samantha it can't be real!! my favorite voice in the world. never saw this before.
That's the magic of Mary. Her spirit will live on, long after we lesser beings are gone.
[*sighs*] If this isn't nice, I don't know what is.
This is beautiful. RIP Mary.
Mary telling a puppet that "we have enemies too" is hilarious. rip

@@mceneaney Yeah, I remember that lovely NME review which compared Stereolab to Hitler… yikes!

I do!!
Mary is so sweet! RIP
The only people who don't "like" Stereolab,
are the ones who have never heard them.
Mary, you are missed.
RIP Mary ...
Oh to be a child dancing to the lovely stereolab 😓😪
Mary was such a unique gem in every aspect. I hope one day I hope to meet and marry a woman like her.
This clip is gold! 💛
This is the coolest dance crowd I’ve ever seen. Love you Mary! ❤
I never knew there was an Australian in Stereolab.
Stereolab was best with you...RIP
It's both beautiful and strangely unsettling at the same time. Namaste, Fellow MoonChildren!🧘♂️🕺💃🧘♀️🙏We are One.

what's the name of the song?
Gasparuccio X Les Yper-Sound
Recovery move @ 4:55
I think les yper-sound isn´t the right song to dance for kids... in some kinda way...it looks strange..
This must be the weirdest dance video ever. Looks like a video from Beck's The Information, just without the psychadelic stuff.
Uh, where's the band?
they're invisible they all have SUPERpowers!!
