I agree. Missing the Skydog...met Greg here in Jersey at the Stone Pony- and had a blast after the show. A little jam session and some good friends. I'll never forget it.
Saw Greg in New Orleans about 15 years ago. What a time! Went to dinner for a very satisfying recipe of gumbo before the show. What a time! Interesting as well was that a cop picked up my friend and I not to harrass us but to give us a ride home, well-- to her home. What a time!
I saw Dickey play live year at a concert. He still plays some really fine guitar. And you are right, his playing is technically flawless. His son Duane also plays with him.
I'm flabbergasted! This is a classic given a beautiful acoustic reading here. The ABB are phenomenal musicians. Warren Haynes sure deserves extra accolade.
If you love this sound and wish there were more like it these days You Must Check Out Josh Langston from Texas. Younger guy that has an old soul and should have been around during the prime of the Allman Brothers. LOve Love this video!! Thank you for sharing.
i think the great strength of allman brothers band has been their dual lead guitar setup... with such outstanding guitarists (both past with Duane and present - Hayes/Trucks etc.) and not to mention DICKEY BETTS !! they've always been forced to step up and do their absolutely best in the presence of their co-lead.
Keyboardist Johnny Neel. He played piano and harmonica on the Seven Turns album and tour. Front from left to right is Warren Haynes, Dickey Betts, Greg Allman and Johnny Neel. Behind them is Butch Trucks, Jaimo and the late bassist Allen Woody (also of Gov't Mule). Neel occasionally jams with Gov't Mule and produces at his Nashville studio.
It was not the same, but it added to the story and the music. I'll never forget the night coming to my boyfriend's house in 1970 (he was in a band) as he met us at the door and said "Duane Allman died". We all cried that night. Things were never the same, but the rest of the band did a phenomenal job of keeping the sound great. It was just different, that's all I can say.
@MrJerryWallace the dude in the sunglasses is Johnny Neal. He was on the "Seven Turns" album then left the band. He mostly played keyboards with the Brothers. He's also blind, hence the shades I guess.
The guy playing high harmony guitar to Dicky Betts on this song, absolutly makes this song electric. His name is unknown to me, but he makes this the beautiful song it is. If I had a band, I'd want him in it.
Great show, Warren Haynes was by far the best there. Gregg Allman and Dickey Betts were awesome of course. I was 17 then and more into Hard Rock but listening to blues also this one sounded to me and my brother just perfect.
THis was the new lineup when they reformed for their successful return that continues today with one blip. New members here are Warren Haynes on (slide) guitar and vocals, Allen Woody on bass, and Johnny Neal on piano.
The ABB were one of the first bands to do the unplugged thing on MTV - if not the first - and everybody rushed to do it after they blew open the doors - kinda the story of their musical lives don't chya know... :)
Sallie is right Duane died in in 1971, he was the bands slide guitarist some would say one of the best ever. A year later just a block away Bassist Barry Oakley was also killed on his motorcycle. After Duane Died orignial member Dickey Bettes (sitting to Gregs right in the vid) took over all guitar to finish Eat A Peach. Warren Haynes joined the band in 1989 to cover guitar work with Betts
Accoustic is fine, but no one can touch the original recording, even by the Allmans themselves apparently. The guitars and singing were very powerful in the original. Saw them on a TV special back in the early '80s when they came about as close to the original as I've heard.
Duane died around 1970 at age 24 in a motorcycle accident. Dickie assumed his spot and is a great guitarist but generally Duane is considered the guitar god of southern rock-blues....... hope your buzz was good..............
I'm sitting here on the California coast, and I can tell you - there's nothing like these Southern rock boys. They're a treasure. God bless.
I agree. Missing the Skydog...met Greg here in Jersey at the Stone Pony- and had a blast after the show. A little jam session and some good friends. I'll never forget it.
✌
Dickey Betts most underrated rock guitarist ever!!
Something about style and lines of Dickey Bett's solos are so unique, they are just as much the Allman sound as anything else.
One of the greatest songs, done by one of THE greatest bands, EVER!
Sure gotta admire the quality of a song seasoned and perfected here, uplifts my hearts ,both of em.
Another great Allman Brothers classic
This song, for all the years, never fails to give me chicken skin. Just beautiful.
Beautiful, beautiful real music.
One of the best song written.
Amen to that!! Stone cold acoustic pickers!!! And a helluva voice!!!
Absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!
Shivers..........
no one has ever, or will ever sound like the Alman Brothers. They are pure genius and one of a kind!

Thanx 4 this it helps fight the battle. Live to love you and your babies,babe.....
Great video. One thing on these comments: just because new popular music sucks (for the most part) doesn't mean all new music sucks.
If you love this sound and wish there were more like it these days You Must Check Out Josh Langston from Texas. Younger guy that has an old soul and should have been around during the prime of the Allman Brothers. LOve Love this video!! Thank you for sharing.
This song is so special to me.

Man, that was good !
Love this song. It is everlasting.
1:18 bad-ass solo. That sounds so fucking sweet. I feel honored, just be able to listen to this.

@MrJerryWallace the dude in the sunglasses is Johnny Neal. He was on the "Seven Turns" album then left the band. He mostly played keyboards with the Brothers. He's also blind, hence the shades I guess.
F***ing cool!
the is the definitive "unplugged"!
The guy playing high harmony guitar to Dicky Betts on this song, absolutly makes this song electric. His name is unknown to me, but he makes this the beautiful song it is. If I had a band, I'd want him in it.
Warren Haynes. Guitarist extraordinaire.

Warren Haynes. Already a legend on his own.
So cool

October 26, 1971
@nikkstand55 - Agreed.
@NatureGirl62 Me too girl!
Someone is playing the organ backstage in this video, you just can't hear it because it's not plugged in.
@PapaLeoNL
times infinity.
Warren Haynes in this as well, a very young Warren Haynes!
Does anyone know the brand of guitar Dickey Betts is playing?
Yes, A Martin 213
He's playing the solo at 1:55
Y'all come and visit us sometime; ya hear?
"...And I don't own the clothes I'm wearrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring..."
Was this recording ever released on DVD?
Not that I know of. This is a bootleg that's been re-recorded on video cassettes dozens of times... hence the crappy video quality.
Accoustic is fine, but no one can touch the original recording, even by the Allmans themselves apparently. The guitars and singing were very powerful in the original. Saw them on a TV special back in the early '80s when they came about as close to the original as I've heard.
aaah i wish this was hd :( it rocks anyway tho
who's the dude in the sunglasses?
Duane died around 1970 at age 24 in a motorcycle accident. Dickie assumed his spot and is a great guitarist but generally Duane is considered the guitar god of southern rock-blues....... hope your buzz was good..............
