This has been my dream my entire childhood. After watching this video i finally did it!!! Thankyou so much!
Julie Falkenberg Dreyer So happy to hear that!!!! CELEBRATION TIME
@@GinaScarangella Love ur video and pls what is the name of the intro song?
Good job
I love your tips I practice it daily Thank you
yes Julie, and then you woke up
"you're gonna start by lying on the floor... You're welcome."
Immediately clicked like
AHAHAH
1)Put hands under shoulders
2) press shoulders against the wall (this puts your body in the right rounded out position)i.e. not banana
3) make sure you have a decent straddle split
4) roll hips up to handstand while pressing shoulders against the wall
5) press lower back into wall
6) roll hips back down, touch toes lightly to ground & press back up.
This builds your strength in your fingers & wrists which is essential, to balance.
You want to stretch your wrists well before practicing presses.
* the reason press handstand's are so difficult for her is because she's overly relying on arm strength, & it's a beautiful press handstand & perfectly executed, with good form; but not everyone possesses that upper body strength.
* I'm a former Elite gymnast/Coach & my 8 yr olds learn their presses against the wall & they are tiny.
It's a strength to weight ratio skill, like all gymnastics.
The key is your fingers control the balance. Tight butt & lower back against the wall head down keeps your body in alignment (as she shows) & focus on your fingers which are the only thing that can control your balance once you hit the handstand. Your wrists will bend& help in the transition to handstand.
You learn this quickly on beam & bars.
It's easy & learned by young children early in gymnastics.
Massive upper body strength doesn't come into play until you start from a seated straddle position on the floor, & no matter your level of flexibility it's a strength move. (I hated those).
From the feet position it's mostly in the fingers & best learned against the wall in my experience, which is strictly gymnastics.
When you get the strength in your fingers & balance, do it away from the wall.
If you lose your balance & fall backwards, tuck your head & roll out. Make sure you aren't on a hard floor.â€â
as a gym coach, I think this is an awesome video - lots of great drills / progressions with focus on safety, strength and quality improvement of the skill. nice work!
Janitor approved.
"Girl, hurry up! I closed down this area just so you could make your video. And you better mention me in the credits."
Lol he loved it apparently
I love that janitor!
Also my eyes approved.

Most important tip is.... Patience!
i just found this and whoa, even after taking a circus handstand class, these tips, especially the notes on position, are really helpful!
Omg tysm this was so helpful bc you actually went through every step of the press handstand!! thank you!!
So i was never able to do my press handstand, but after watching your video i had to try it again and after 5 minutes of practicing i was able to do it lol so thank you very much for this great video and those tricks

I love the last one, the puppy press! I've never tried that before. I feel like I'm so close but don't know what the final push is. This definitely helps, thank you so much!
4 years now. Handstands everyday. Now watching this video again. I understand everything . Good drills. Great tips. I was too busy looking at you and not listening to you. I've matured now. Good job with this video on press to hand
Thanks for the video. I been doing bodyweight exercises like this and loving it.
May the strength and balance come to us all â
It is SO helpful when you show you not doing a technique (e.g. compression) and then doing it. Most people only demonstrate the technique and not the lack of technique, and it makes a big difference to my ability to see what you're actually doing when you compare the two. Great video - thank you!
Susan Jean Thank you so much!!! Yes I find that super helpful too. I also find it helpful to film my attempts so I know what to correct when Iâm working new skills
Omg. Youâre so strong and fit đȘ I just recently started taking exercise seriously, so these kinds of videos are super helpful and inspiring. You explained every step with perfect detail, which is great for someone like me who is spatially challenged when it comes to handstands and needs to see a lot of examples lol. Thank you đ
This video is so helpful! Thank you so much for so many practical tips... everything you said made sense and for those like me, trying handstands for the first time, your hints are absolutely on point.
Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge. Thanks for teaching đâșđž
That was excellent Gina! Make more
Great tips Gina, thank you. I've been trying for about a year now. When you mentioned keeping a hollow body while going into handstand position, I'll be drilling that. Thanks :-)
Ive been SCOWERING youtube and the internet in general for drills and tips and tricks and I have finally after DAYS found this video and omg it is EXACTLY what I needed. Someone thorough and explaining for all levels thank you!!!!!!
Thumbs up for the honesty.
I'm soooooo going to be doing this the entire day! Thaaaank you, you're doing a great job đ„
This is exactly what Iâve been waiting for! I used to be a gymnast but could NEVER get a press and Iâve been trying for months. Iâll try these and hopefully get my press! Love your vids đ

I love this video so much! I've seen many tutorials and tipps&tricks on the road to my press handstand but I feel you're the first that gives me the tipps I didn't already know but could be game changing!
Thank you! These drills and stretches are really effective and worth it! You are very good at explaining how to do this and more, thanks!
This has got to be one of the best tutorial and progression videos on this topic, mixed in with some of Ginas dry humour and a little self depriciation.
WOW Gina. I think this may be the best press handstand video ever. Congrats. Your form demos are right on target, along with your tips and drills. Your sense of humor makes this 100% relatable and so memorable. And... as your lovestruck fan in the background noticed - it doesn't hurt that you're very nice to look at lol đ Thank you and please make more. If real world instruction ever becomes a thing again, I hope you'll post your schedule.
Finally an who keeps it real about how hard handstands are. I've also be trying for ever
especially the baby handstand - great Inspiration! thanks a lot !

I can do wall walks but not go from the floor to a full handstand. Your instructions are a solid start for this process. Thank you.
I think these are really accessible for me at my current level. I believe the hollow body/round back tip is the most helpful also the tip about starting with feet closer together in order to stack the hips. I canât wait to do this tonight! Especially that first exerciseđ„đ

Thank You so much!! I always loved handstands...started doing them again :)
This was really great thank you I'm gonna try your drills out.
Really great tips! I especially like the drill done from the floor with the hands on the wall to really give the feeling of the full range of motion of the legs and hips even for people who don't have the arm strength yet. I also really liked how clear your postural "do" and "don't" cues are. I have nowhere near your strength or flexibility, but I can do a jump handstand from down-dog. The one tip I have that isn't in your video (or maybe it is and I didn't hear it) is the concept of "push down to go up." I start from soft elbows and as I exhale and firm the core, I emphasize pressing the hands down into the floor; that makes the legs go up with much less effort. Again, I'm working from a jump rather than a press because I don't have your flexibility or strength, but I wonder if it might also be useful in the context of a press and would be interested to hear what you think. Great channel. I subscribed.
Yes! I do love that tip and it would have been great to include! I'm sad I didn't think of it at the time. I talk a little bit about pushing tall in my handstand tutorial but you are 100% right. It is a huge part of the press! Thanks so much for the comment and for watching this video! I will definitely have to add that to my future videos!
Body goals!â€ïž
Thanks for these drills/tips I am now much closing to getting the press handstands

Gina, this video is great. Thanks!
Brilliant work!
When you do the drill off the floor standing, without the wall- imagine a string is attached to your tail bone and is being pulled up to the ceiling. Might help đž
Thanks for the tip. I reallly want to do this problem is....i lost a good amount of my flexibility and im weak. But just gotta keep working on it!
i'm going to imagine all of that and still into a heap on the floor, lord help me.
I should start exercising right now.
Great stuff. Thank you!

this is great! once youâve accomplished this version the next step is from a straddle sit, which is very difficult and what gymnastics use to condition. Good luck!
I personally loved your intro and the drill, keep rocking it! Thanks so much for sharing!!!
Hi im Kanen from Mauritius.you explain and perform it so clearly and beautifully. Thanks for sharing
Very good instruction I love the way you emphasized getting the thighs into the core I adore the puppy press and I felt the lift when I did it and I think this is really going to help me thank you so much
Great Vid!! Especially the tips about flexibility. Thank you.
Thanks for your tips!
Thanks for sharing! Super easy to follow and practice tips and drills! Stoked to report that I got my easiest, smoothest and quickest press handstand on the first time I watched this video! Keep it up!
Hi!! i have been practicing them and i have improved a lot. I am able to do it against the wall now :D i wanted to ask you which would be my next step, because right now i feel a little bit figthening doing it without wall. Thanks!!
Blanca GarcĂa we have the same conditionâđ»ïž
Blanca GarcĂa Hi!!! Make sure your free standing handstand is solid before attempting without the wall. If you want to continue practicing drills I would do the small lift from straddle without the wall. That drill should really help build even more shoulder strength so that eventually the rest will be easy!
Gina Scarangella thank you very much for your help! Iâm improving a lot. Love your videos âșïžâșïž
that Janitor is becoming a youtube fan, cant concentrate on my job anymore lol

I love this thank you. It is really helpful. I wonât lie though when I practice this I feel so ugh. Because of the strength I still need to build. Thank you for this guidance. It was much needed.

This video was awesome and gives me hope! Thank you!
I'm from Germany and i can't englisch very good but i like this video and it was the only one which had useful tips for me.
One Questionđ: how long did it take you to do the handstand?
And with what age did you start? đ
Thanks for the helpful video and best regards from bavaria đ
So glad you liked it!!! It took me a long time to learn a handstand when I first learned one. I did gymnastics at the age of 6 until about 16!
also from germany... and you talk very clearly so i was able to understand every word xD .. iâm just not able to get my belly anywhere near the floor when iâm sitting on the ground with straight legs đ it feels like something is tearing apart in my thighs ^^
@@Charlie_Waffles I'm dying of laughter đ Stretch every day!
Samantha R youâre welcome đ ... if i push my body to that special point it hurts.. dunno if its tendons, ligaments or both xD .. but yea stretching will help i guess :D
@@Charlie_Waffles I think it's tendons! (Tissue that attaches bone to muscle). I'm studying to become a personal trainer. So I'm no expert, just very interested and practicing fitness daily.
But there's a function of your tendons that prevents injury by sending pain signals when you introduce some new stretch or stretch your muscle beyond its regularly used range.
If you feel that pain while stretching, use something firm (like a foam roller) to gently apply pressure to the exact origin of the pain for 30 seconds. That's the amount of time it takes for the tendon to release and allow more ease of stretching. đ
I read about this technique and tried it today at the gym and it was incredible. With the foam roller, I made more progress on my splits today than I had over the last 3 days.
So flexible....
Very good drills!!! Thank you!!!
Excellent tips that I will be using to get to a press handstand by the end of the year. Thanks!

Hi Gina! Could you do a video about how to hold a handstand longer? I can do a handstand even without the wall but I can't seem to hold it for very long đ Thank you! Love your content btw
About to post one!
try working some progressions to help strengthen your shoulders, arms, and core. You can look into things like elevated A frame, and also just working your wall handstands and holding them longer. hope this helps :)
