      Just bought a sequoia and it has one of these in it. Can’t figure out how to switch the output from a dvd from the console to the rear DVD player. Also the rear speakers do not work at all. Is it worth troubleshooting or should I just invest in a new unit?

    Just wanted to comment and say that I love watching your guys' videos. I've been a fan since ASS2000 days and I'm always pleasantly surprised at how you guys just keep pumping out the great content.
    I think the way you logically approach improving/tuning a car and I very much enjoy that you actually go out to benchmark and measure the changes to the car. Another thing I also very much appreciate is that you total the costs for the project - very organized and educational on top of all the fun. I have no doubt you both love what you do very much, you guys have an amazing on-screen chemistry that reminds me of my dad and myself in many ways.
    Keep up the great work. Car people like you guys are the reason I (a software engineer) got interested in cars.

    This video was still helpful for me. I am also installing an OEM backup camera to my 08 Tundra along with a Sony XAV-9500es head unit as my monitor. I was wondering how i would get the wiring from the ceiling down to the dash and you guys are the only ones with a video that shows a clear example of exactly how to do that. Glad you left the video up even though you found out later that it was a bad product. Liked and subbed!

    I've had a Joying android head unit for a year and a half and have really enjoyed it. It was specifically made for my Jeep and installed just as easily. Sounds great. I mounted my GPS on top of my dash and that works well and is pretty stealth too. I did have a problem with my touch screen after about a year. Joying did honor the warranty and sent me a new touchscreen which I installed.

    I figured out how to wire your 07-13 tundra that has the same wire setup that is in the video. (Red Wire) - Positive Video Wire, (White with Black stripe wire) is Negative Video wire. (Green Wire) - is the trigger wire that connects to your andriod stereo backup wire. You will need to get a RCA Video cable which is the Yellow one. You will need to cut it, strip the wire ... there are two wires inside of it the non-shielded wire is the negative and the insulated (shielded) wire is the positive. You will need to strip the insulated wire of the RCA cable. and the then you will have two wires. attach together the non-insulated wire on the RCA cable which is the negative to the (White with Black-Stripe); attach the insulated wire on the RCA cable which is the positive to the (Red Wire) ; Then you can plug this RCA cable into the camera RCA input of your stereo. Last attach the (Green wire) which is the trigger wire to the back of the stereo which is is usually labled backup. That is what he is showing in the video but did not explain it correctly. It took me a minute to research and figure out what he actually did. You should then have video on your unit.

    About a year ago my wifes double din died, stock stereo, not knowing the latest greatest car stereo jive, she ordered a sounddesign (cheap china crap, not eveeything made in china is crap, but this was) knowledgable w/electronics but 90's stuff, i installed. Pos lasted 9 months, blue tooth ? Never worked, took apart a hundred times cause preset info would not stay set ? Ended up being the unit itself, as i thought but had to keep 2nd guessing anyway. When it died, my wife was misserable, she has a 1 hour commute in and another hour home. I was so happy, it finally died, i hated the stereo, sounded crappy, well, ok i guess, if your f'in tone deaf, maybe it would sound ok.
    My turn to order, 'amazons chioce' pioneer AVH-X390BS
    ITS SO SWEET, $199, had it in hand 2 days later. Sounds absolutley mint, best of all the wife was super happy. And it ALL works.
    If you get 1 of these and want video while driving (you know, for the kids) dont just ground the saftey video wire (you know, the 1 thats soppose to get attached to the parking brake) you need to run a switch then ground. It asks you b4 you can see video to set then release park brake to test it really is connected.
    Another interesting note, I've read some units w/gps biult in, know the car is in motion and willshut video down.
    Buy brand name stuff, get long term results.

    These units are cool, when they work (key word..., "When They Work"). These tend to be soooo hit-or-miss. You will find yourself having to tinker with them more times than not. Also, be very careful with thermals. Many people cut a hole into a safe location on the case in order to install a small PC fan (silent 40mm - 60mm size and 12V). There is a huge community at XDA forum.

    Or if you stream through Spotify or something just install the app through the Play store and use you phone as a wifi hotspot for the headunit instead. Might need to mess around with settings in Android so it doesn't decide to update apps in the background

    Seicane customer service is based out of China and it seems as if they are using google translate to communicate in English. After purchase my unit took almost 4 months to arrive and updates from the seller were basically nill. When I received my unit the power button doesn’t work, the clock memory doesn’t work at all nor does it sync with gps. After a polite request for warranty or refund the company said they don’t offer refunds and it would be my responsibility to ship the unit back at my costs even though the unit is defective. I do not think the risk of dealing with the seicane company is worth the risk of the purchase. The unit does look great, forgot to add that.

    I installed a similar unit in my vehicle it was made by Hizpo though. I also purchased the ODB2 Bluetooth scanner you briefly mentioned and everything works great. My only critique about your install is you should installed the GPS antenna on the dash, inside the vehicle. Installing it outside the vehicle doesn't give it better reception, but it being outside in the elements may effect how long it will operate..

    I bought one and have nothing but trouble, no sound, no gps no radio, the sound is due to wrong wiring harness sent, but I not sure if they will ever send the right one, the backup cam they will not let me know what the blue wire is for, when the radio is on it sounds like a ticking clock.

    This is a really well done video. I'm interested in an Android head unit, so it's good info. But for the record, this is a really good install guide, not a review. You don't really show us what the unit can do at all. Maybe a follow up would be good?

    The problem I have with some of these videos like this is that they probably got a free unit for the review so they're going to be bias. You can tell because just because the camera worked they were yup it's all good. No view of using maps or music. They need to do a month in review or week in review after using the product and let us know the shortcomings and how it performs in daily use

    I've just bought the exact same truck and would love to hear your feedback on 6 month ownership of the Seicane unit. Main question - how quick so you see the backup camera when you turn on the truck? I'd be concerned if it takes 30 seconds to boot up the Android before you can see the camera when you shift in reverse. Great video!

  • @MV60
    @MV60 Před 6 lety +2

    The part I imagined the whole way through was you guys getting the the point of screwing the bolts back in and wondering where the mount tabs went because you didn't transfer the brackets. :D Also you'd be surprised how well those gps antennas work mounted inside the dash too. They usually have a magnet in them and need to be fixed to a metal base for best signal, just putting it on any part of the metal structure inside the dash probably would have done the trick.

    • @speedacademy
      @speedacademy  Před 6 lety

      Thats a great tip! We usually dont run them on the outside but there was a gapping hole in the firewall so we thought this was the perfect opportunity to fill it :)

    • @MV60
      @MV60 Před 6 lety

      Of course it's your mileage may vary, but yea, the magnetised ones need have metal under them, and I think they're pretty much all magnetised.
