- On 21 March 2019, the Roborace team took Robocar to Elvington Airfield in an attempt to earn the Guinness World Records title for the world's 'Fastest Autonomous Car'.
This is the story of how we did it.
Now we've set the marker, who fancies the challenge of beating it?
------------
Roborace is the world’s first competition for human + machine teams, using both self-driving and manually-controlled cars. Race formats will feature new forms of immersive entertainment to engage the next generation of racing fans. Through sport, innovations in machine-driven technologies will be accelerated.
Roborace will redefine the way you think about autonomous technology.

Oh, congratulations on 280/175 not just electric but autonomous
Bruce Baxter Thanks! Great accomplishment from the team 💪
This is awesome, well done! :D
Fascinating the steering didn’t try to correct the spin.
Nice touch to limit damage in a spin I guess.
I would have given my process point as tyre angle to vehicle direction with force reduction proportional to weight/downforce/track condition. This would surely break stuff in a spin.
A shout out to Batman, to let people borrow his car👍
how is it possible that this just has 3000 views? it needs more
Hard to disagree with you Lautaro 💪
People like tiktok dancing videos more, sadly.
This kind of challenge is what drives engineers to succeed -- a victory of teamwork and ingenuity. It's why Apollo Project (and Sputnik before it) was so huge.
RIP Roborace. Maybe they could put an FPV camera ( with head-tracking gimbal) in the Robocar and have an RC racing league.
You are doing a very good job!
congratulations, well done!
Only 20,000 people saw this video that's sad. I thought a lot more people would see this. Like millions of people.
Awesome guys!
Well played peeps! Top job, Top vid!
You lads have the best jobs on the planet. Congratulations.
This is awesome, I can't wait for this to really take off. You guys should see if FIRST will partner with you. I think Dean Kamen would love this. I also think you would generate insane levels of interest if you guys had a car at one if not both of their world championship events. Best of luck!
I don't know. It can't even drive straight line apptopriately.
wow great team work and excellent Design, and bug free code.
You have shown the car going outside the road in the grass but didn't explain why 🤔
That was just their first attempt. They put it at the beginning of the video to show the progress they made after a few months of development to achieve the record.
@@anthoslykos6294 Ah ok, it makes sense. Thanks!
Alberto Fabbri exactly what Anthos said! The spin happened while we were trying to test the performance limitations of the Robocar as we prepared for the record!
It seems like when braking on the end of the runway.
@@Roborace would love to see more angles of the spin.
This is so interesting!
great speed and great looking vehicle
I kind of like this , if they push the limits you will still get spectacular wrecks but the only thing hurt is the pocketbook.
Makes it look so easy... even a human could do it.
I see that the batmobile is next in production?
i discovered this cause of hotwheels lol
Wouldn't it be more fun and more of a challenge if it had an IC Engine!
and i thought howheels just made the car as a toy and the actual to wasnt real
I'm starting to think I need another channel, one that focuses more on explaining the tech aspects and educates on what the actual hardships are in this. I like the cool car goes woosh, but I don't feel like I can tell anyone what it is I saw. But I probably wouldn't understand human car racing either if I watched it.
Stick an F1 v6 hybrid in that thing and let Newey go mad with the aero. It would destroy all lap times!
Land speed records are usually attempted with jet or rocket engines, has nobody though to take the pilot out of that game? I mean that's the limiting factor isn't it, finding a suicidal lunatic willing to drive at supersonic speeds while still attached to the ground.
👏👏👏👏
Proud owner of its Hot Wheels version. Now I want to collect all colour variants.
Coming soon....Formula Potato Couch Championship.
These things might be pulling cargo on highway by 2030
Why do you need autonomous for a straight track... Heard of EP9?
I'd like to see this race a human stock car driver.
It's a bit of a sausage fest, but extremely well-done gentlemen.
Flimsy looking car
Awesome guys! Excellent work. Congrats 👏👌👍
Thanks Sim!
autonomous Electric car.
I know this is gonna blow out famous one day and I'm happy I'm here before that! Kudos guys!
Yea when it becomes the meme of crashing into walls within .0001 I cannot wait to laugh!!
0:01 he sounds like an Aussie!
Spot on 🇦🇺
Roborace
Yay us aussies
sounds like a rc car
the fastest autonomous lawnmower :)
we need more brain-like neuromorphic computer processors, more field
programmable gate arrays processors, more gpus, more cpus, more lidar
sensors, more radar sensors, more cameras, more gps, more powerful
supercomputers, more internet connection, vehicle to everything
communication systems, more automotive navigation systems, more
vehicular ad-hoc networks, neural network accelerator computer
processors, more 360s cameras, more 360s lidars, 1.5 billion lines of
codes, and deep learnings system to make every self-driving vehicles everywhere around the world.
I would expect it to look more like an F1 car , they are the cutting edge.
Not really. The shape of an F1 car is not really what can go around a track fastest, it is fastest within the extremely thigh regulations. For example, if you would add a driver to the Robocar and keep the shape because you found out in simulations that is faster; well you can't, not allowed.
This is probably faster because it is not open wheeled, which reduces drag a lot. The 'oval' shape of the front and rear wings that integrate the wheel cover is also very smart as it prevents wingtip vortexes. Obviously, not having a high roll-bar/air-inlet in the middle above the driver is great as well. In general, having fewer constraints is always giving a better solution.
Certainly a technological tour-de-force, with all of the emotional impact of a bottling plant.
I just bought a hotwheel car look like that car in the vids
What top speed??
282 km/h
Ohhh ok
can't wait for the Formula 1 style automated car racing! Soon it will be the programmers who are the stars. Though i am willing to bet there will be ever more rules and regs on this than F1... somehow.
Almost half the weight of a '22 f1 car will be dictated by safety structures for the driver. Imagine a 400kg v6 hybrid car with much cleaner aerodynamics 🤔
@@headcrab980 if there are no people that are likely to get hurt.. i say go for it. The tracks themselves will have to be literally and figuratively bulletproof tho.
i have its hot wheels
It LOOKS cool. But a Tesla can drive itself. And go that fast... So
Get it going around a track boys and girls.
Check out our videos and you’ll see we do plenty of track work
Maybe think before you comment Dan
Give them the budget of google or Tesla.
Very clever but a little pointless. Is this the future of racing cars ? Who would want to see F1 without drivers ? Not me.
