    • @HistorysRaven
      @HistorysRaven Před rokem +5

I'd keep to this strategy as a lot of music videos will get copyright hits. That said, for bands like Linkin Park, System of a Down, Disturbed, and Rage Against the Machine, go watch the music video after reacting if you don't already. Some songs, like Flobots "Handlebars" (czcams.com/video/HLUX0y4EptA/video.html) and anything by Sabaton, where the music video enhances the experience two, three, or even five times.

The "Everybody's been here" line refers to just how ever-present Hollywood is in everyone's life even if you're not from Cali. If you've turned on a TV, a radio, a computer, whatever. You've been blasted with Hollywood.

The full line is "Born and raised by those who praise control of population - Well, everybody's been there and I don't mean on vacation." Basically means we can all relate to our previous generation holding some fucked up views, and us trying to grow beyond that and live better lives than them.

"everybody's been there and I don't mean on vacation", compare to "you can check out any time you like, but you can never leave" from the Eagles' 'Hotel California' - this state really is another dimension man, I moved out here from Indiana and I'm still tripping on how different things are. The lyric about the sun having its final resting place here also alludes to the mystery of it - come up here to the Emerald Triangle and smoke enough Humboldt weed and it'll all click into place 😂

That's what I always thought this line meant, although not so much California as the idea of it that Hollywood sells, i.e. "Cali-fornication".
In Hotel California, even tho they never really answered it, it felt more like a metaphor for addiction. "You can checkout any time you like, but you can never leave" feels like "once an addict, always an addict".

If you want some more to react to that is not overly hard and metal you should check out some ”white boy” blues bands from the 70’s. A lot in common with the old school soul and Rn’B.

The best thing about playing in a band is that you play live instruments with your friends. It's that we can create the song together but never alone that's a part of the magic. It’s already been alluded to in these comments, but the line, “Well, everybody’s been here, and I don’t mean on vacation,” refers to the overall premise of the song. “Spies from China try to steal your mind’s elevation:” the epicenter of the world’s drama and paranoia. “And little girls from Sweden dream of silver-screen quotation:” the allure and romanticization of California and Hollywood. “The Sun may rise in the East, at least it’s settled in the right location:” A way of summarizing California as the far edge of the universe. It’s Californication.

The phrase 'being Californicated' has been around since the mid-70s or a bit earlier. RHCP did make Californicated/tion a more mainstream term, followed by the series. I remember wearing buttons on my denim jacket (in 1976) saying stuff like "Don't Californicate in public" - bought at Spenser's Gifts, so not a mom-n-pop outfit. All respect to RHCP for their excellent use of sarcasm and irony to deliver their messages to the masses (even if half or more don't understand what they're hearing).

Rock and roll evolved mainly from jump blues but also country, folk, doowop, gospel and classic, swing jazz. Naturally some artists would emphasize some of these kinds of music and de-emphasize others leading to a noticeable difference in the sound of their music. the genre encompasses a lot over the last 70 years of music! Californication is a TV trope term more commonly known as "Hollywood Provincialism." It's the reason why a show based in one location will have things called by terms not commonly used in that area, but that are used in California. Like a show based in New Mexico calling the Motor Vehicle Department the DMV, when it's the MVD out there.

It was were almost every film and commercial we have all watched comes from. Man like what you said back in the day people were so mad that Elvis was bringing black culture to the white youth and a White southerner at that. They didn't care he was stealing it for lack of a better word and they couldn't just call him out on that so they called it vulgar and too sexual lol I wish he had given more credit for it but hey it slowly brought people closer together at least.

A lot of their music is based drug experiences. Anthony Keidas is amazing! The whole band is, they are so unique.

JoAnn AKI am a huge fan and know everything about rhcp. It is absolutely not true that many songs are inspired by drug abuse. Only Under The Bridge talks about addiction and rebirth. However it would be Kiedis not Keidas 😊

Blood Sugar Sex Magic is the Red Hot Chili Pepper's BEST album - spin the wheel and pick a song from that album and enjoy!

This song is about the positives and negatives of California culture. "Everybody's been there" means everyone's been influenced in some way by California culture with Hollywood for example.

Music videos were a big part of the success of these songs. Being an MTV generation kid I relate to the videos more than just the song. Still see The Go-Go’s Vacation video when it hear it.

Flea is one of My personal all time favorite bassists, I think most would say that he's easily one of the greatest of all time-- certainly our time.
RHCP has a lot of great bops I'm sure many have already recommended. so, hope you give more listens to some RHCP you haven't heard.
*I think it's important to note that rap, rock, hip-hop, R&B; these genres all have the same roots. Tin-pan alley, the blues etc. was the start. and we all owe everything to those legends

Rob - you MUST do a reaction to Paranoid Android, Weird Fishes or any other song by Radiohead. They're a small band from here in the UK who've been putting stuff out since the 90's - you might have heard of them 😁😉

You Know ive watched lots of People react to rock music and they always like any song sometimes I think they are lying but you are the first one that is honest and respectfully said that didn't like the song I appreciate that, even though I think the song is great those were valid reasons not to like it.

So to explain a bit about the song, he means that California's influence on culture is almost all encompassing, that it influences everything. It's a helluva song.
Lemme.make a recommendation because he mentions Cobain in this song, Nirvana, specifically Smells Like Teen Spirit. It's the true beginning of grunge, was the death of the 80's glam era. You've probably heard at least notes of it, but damn if.it isn't a song worth giving a listen to.
