Look at the lyrics more closely. He's singing about everything wrong with California.
Personally, I think he’s explaining how Hollywood corrupts people and how everyone seems to want that corruption. I guess that’s why he’s suggesting people to come to California because you’ll only find it there.
This song is about how Hollywood plures the outside reputation of California. California has more to offer but everyone stuck in a Hollywood dream. This is why the video, shows the characters going through the entire state showing it's true beauty and how those who truly been born and raise know.
It kind of reminds me of the way the Eagles described California with Hotel California period not staying these two tracks are on the same level lyrically. I definitely do mess with the chili peppers for sure. Welcome to the Jungle China is saying the same kind of thing about Hollywood and rise to Fame in the good and the bad all comes with it. Even if you don't rise to fame you're still going to meet these and these opposites along the way. That's what I take away from this track and welcome-to-the-jungle to an extent and most definitely Hotel California. I'm still a youngin but I try to keep up and I try to learn from you oh and I'm people in life by asking these questions. Do you think there's any correlation between the free tracks I just mentioned? Always like to use other people's opinions
As someone who grew up with every album by RHCP and playing this CD every single day in HS. It blows my mind that there are people who have never heard this. But, I also love it, watching people hear this for the first time brings back so many memories of hearing this for the first time. Technically speaking, this solo is probably a 6/10. Overall I would have to give it an 8 though, sometimes less is more on a solo, John Frusciante is a guitar master and a huge part of the band, he has left multiple times to do his own thing and their albums are distinctively different without him. Flea the bassist is also a bass god. His body of work is unreal, and hard to touch by anyone.
The song actually is about the corruption that exist in California, in Los Angeles more precisely, focusing in how the young people that want to become somebody un Hollywood has to submit themselves into the abuse of the big magnates, abuse that includes raping, sexual bullying, explotation, etc. There the line "hardcore, soft p*rn", alleging how some people who do not submit to abuse end up being part of the p alleging how some people who do not submit to abuse end up being part of the p alleging how some people who do not submit to abuse end up being part of this industry instead of fulfilling their dreams

“Californication” is basically the demonic side of everyone’s young and naive dreams.
Everyone’s dreams are always to make it to Hollywood and be a big time celebrity, but there’s a very dark side to it all. Things that 99.9% of people could never even imagine.
In recent years a lot of that soul-crushing debauchery has come out, but this song was basically about how we are deceived into thinking it’s something pleasant, and it’s the complete opposite.
“Californication” is basically naively selling your soul....getting fornicated or “f ucked” by California, in order to achieve those dreams of yours.
Basically, in order to achieve those dreams, those corrupt California (more specifically Hollywood) power players and gatekeepers are gonna have their way with you.
Dark Necessities is a must. It’s funky

The solo was purposefully downplayed against the big Hollywood noise metaphor. Id try some better chilis tracks like Sir Psycho sexy or Mellowship slinky in b major, they groove far more than the hits.

As for the meaning it's summed up in one line in the song "Buy me a star on the boulevard, it's Californication" talking about the walk of fame. You have to buy a star if you want one, it's not rewarded to people. The song is about how Hollywood is willing to do anything, sell it's morals, in order to make money. Which we know to be very true with all the sexual assault cases coming out now, for example...

*Hardcore, Soft Pn* was one you didnt seem to catch but kinda included. It the girls in string bikinis and ripped dudes in board shorts, the broad PDA acceptance, and so on. The culture is the Soft Pn that is Hardcore engrained to rearrange it.
You were on the right track, the song is about how being a star in California is the dream of a lot of people ( dream of californacation )... But it's all fake, even the a lot of the people who made it are fake and fight the natural process of time with plastic surgery ( pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging ) and about how for some the dream turns into a nightmare with all the drugs and some people become trapped in their situation ( a teenage bride with a baby inside getting high on information ). There is more than that, but listen to the song again with the lyrics, you will get the rest

Your reaction, at the least the first half is an awesome example of seeing something and then looking for additional visuals to confirm your initial presumption and you are not alone in this. Even when the lyrics are saying something completely different, you do not hear it because you are looking to support the initial determination of what it was about; that you made before it before it started. Being more aware of this would help a lot of people understand.

I went pretty far back on your music reactions, and couldn't find this next group, and you may have already heard of them, so couldn't do honest reaction. If you get a chance, checkout the music put out by rest of RATM, Tom Morello, drummer Brad Wilk and the bassist (Tim ???) after Zack left the band. First they formed the rock super-group, Audioslave, which was RATM with Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, and one of the main architects of grunge music in the 90s.) Then in 2016 they formed Prophets of Rage, another super-group, more rap/rock feel. The same three RATM, along with Chuck D and DJ Lord from Public Enemy and B-Real of Cypress Hill. I don't even care if you react, well, would love to see you react to them, but I'd rather turn you onto their music period, especially Prophets of Rage, as much as you love RATM, you'll definitely put PoR on your playlist..lol. My rhcp recommendation would be something off of Blood Sugar Sex Magic. It's a completely different experience to this style. I'd say: Sir Psycho Sexy.
If you think that guitar solo was a 6/10 then you dont get it, it is one of the best solos I've ever heard, not because of the skills, it is simple, so easy but yet it is the perfect solo for that song, it sticks in your brain forever and its a beautifull melody, not overly produced nor extensive. Short, simple, beautiful, perfect. That's what a solo must be
