- I review, breakdown and explain You Season 4 and react to what happened to Joe Goldberg at the end of the books. I discuss the three novels by Caroline Kepnes titled You, Hidden Bodies and You Love Me, and how they could tie into the end of You Season 5. I also look at the upcoming book which is titled For You and Only You.

How do you think it will end for Joe Goldberg? Comment your thoughts below!
We still have book 4 that come out in April so who knows?🤷🏻♂️
Top 5 characters deserve their own spin-off series after season 5 of YOU
I don't know how it will end but I have my own idea which is Joe's mother contacts him in hopes that he can help her financially. It turns out that little half brother, Jacob has cancer and she's desperate. Joe ostensibly agrees but we all know how jealous Joe is. Next morning she wakes up in his cage. She basically pulls a Beck and uses her place in his psyche against him, escapes the cage and kills her own son. She goes to prison for murder and at the sentencing she says: " I know you all think I'm a monster for killing my son but the truth is, I killed him years ago. MY boy, Joey, died a long time ago and was replaced by a monster. This had to happen. I had to stop him. And I will never recover from this." Tell me what you guys think of this idea.
Television writers are running out of ideas, they need base stories to make anything anymore
Dead, hopefully from self defense one of his victims will do. Or revenge from family/friends of his victims ..Jail is not enough.
I want him to get caught like how Light did in Death Note , in a room full of people , Joe having a complete meltdown and arguing like crazy with his other self while others stare at him in disbelief, like he’s crazy
that would be awesome
I thought the same thing
Then he’d probably be declared mentally insane and they put him in a mental asylum until he’s deemed normal to walk the streets again.. no jail lol
PERFECT parallel to draw omg!! That scene is iconic
I hope that too
I remember what Candace said to Joe in the beginning of season 2:
"If you go to jail, you'd go thinking you're a good man."
I personally think it'd be the perfect end if Joe does go to jail and for a few years, still deludes himself into thinking he's a victim until his son, Henry, comes to visit.
They'd sit, face to face, with Joe confronting the one person who he most likely truly loves. And Henry, after seeing how far gone and terrible his father is, deny him any sort of redemption and forgiveness. Henry walks away, with Joe left heartbroken. He stares at his reflection, not even Rhys is present in his own mind. He finally admits who truly is the monster.
*You.*
That would be cool
Love that idea 😍
Netflix should take notes on this
This is too nice for Joe though. He deserves a cruel ending.
Wow
I think it would be extremely hilarious if he gets caught and goes to Prison and at the end he starts one of his "romantic" monologues and we find out he is directing it to a woman working at the Prison be it a guard or medic lmao keeping his madness going never ending Even after getting caught
I thought about it too!! Reminds me of good old x-files scenarios haha
Yeah he's going to keep gum from the bottom of their shoe or finding strands of hair; creepy.
Prison woman: Here’s some slop
Joe Goldberg: Hello, yOu
@@benl326 This had me dying. Would be the dumbest, but funniest, ending the show could have.
@@MrTehDBear Haha yeah, I feel like You’s quite tongue in cheek so it would kinda work aha. Can’t see them choosing it tho pff
3:05 This is what I always thought he would do with Love had he just left her alive and went to be with Marienne. He’d eventually end up looking up Love and being like “Who is this man? A new…husband? Is he really good for *YOU* ? Can he provide *YOU* with that spark that we used to have? Hmm..we’ll have to find out.”
man i wish you wrote the 4th season 😭
@@lykoi8546 AHAHA Thank you that made my day!
Omg, that would have been WAY more entertaining. You're a genius.
The books are drastically different from the Netflix show. I think Joe will get caught but I could see him getting away with all the murders because of how rich/powerful people always get away with everything. Once the next novel comes out we'll see
Yeah it's going to be interesting to see how the next one ties into it too!
Are the books worth it? Looking to kill some time (pun intended).
Joe is for sure getting caught next season, but I can't tell if he will die or just get sent to prison
If he gets caught, I hope he gets off like how he did in the books
Ummm. I don't think he'll go to prison. A lot of Money and Power involve now. Plus he got someone who also got away with Murder as a Partner and Lawyers to help get him off. Only way he goes to prison is 'Maybe to save Kate, Maybe'
Also rmr Joe love to frame another Person, ummm, just might be Kate now n he Take over the whole Empire, cause even when Joe is with someone Perfect for him, he still finds another 'YOU'
i kinda hate how in the You universe everyone’s capable of murder. like it was fine when it was just Joe and Love but now Kate’s okay with all of it too ? 😭
I think it's more that she just so desperate and broken to have a connection with someone
@@Raymond-vi1ee still means shes ok with murder
I mean Kate is slightly different from Love. She doesn’t actually solve problems via just killing people, she’s okay with her love interest killing people and covering it up though.
Her did is literally an illuminati level billionaire so it makes sense lol. With Joe's London identity being set up to be wealthy and rubbing elbows the ultra rich its reasonable that he'd fall for someone who has a very corrupt family
I feel like that's the exact thing I love about this whole universe. So many stories are filled with good people, it gets old at some point. Nice to see some villains succeed, it's more realistic. Arlington Road vibes
I am 100% with you that the final series should focus on his mom and brother. It’s a pretty standard and effective literary end to return to the beginning. Clearly Joe’s psychosis is fixated on his mother abandoning him so that issue coming to the fore is the best way to bring him to an end… somehow. Not sure if he kills his mom or she kills him or turns him in or his brother turns him in or Joe sacrifices himself to save one or both of them but there are rich possibilities there.
I never thought about it, but I just realized that the brother Killing Joe to protect the mum would be a good call back for how it all began.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Joe killed his mom out of anger since most of his problems stem from him always protecting her as a kid
4 things I want from the new season
1. Joe actually embracing his Shadow instead of fighting it.
2. Joe to track down his mother.
3. Joe going to Mr Mooney's grave or funeral.
4. at the end he's organizing books for the other prisoners to read in the public library.
you've got your 1st wish granted
I mean for the first he did accept rhys on his own reflection which is a crazier version of joe
Could Mary Kate refer to Marienne and Kate, possibly everything that happens in the books involving Mary could be split between the two, especially since Marienne is still alive and knows that Joe is still killing.
That makes sense
I think it's more so the basis of the married neighbor in S3.
All the loose ends ! Paco, Dr. Nicky, Ellie, cop from LA, Mariene. People kno his face and he keeps dating high profile women !? What a dummy. I do like the narrative of how easily a sociopath can make his way into the elite upper class of society tho ;p
and Nadia😢
I’ve always wanted to know how the show compares to the novels, but too impatient to read them. Thank you for this video ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
I've never read the books, but I'd be interested in checking them out, just to see how they diverge from the TV show.
Yeah there's some cool differentiations!
Super different especially between the third novel and season.
There’s a 4th one out soon.
You Love Me ended pretty crazy as you heard, the new woman was killed by her daughter.
@@helpyourselfimbusy5747 is it good?
@@xuexxiong but when I read it (before season 4 was released), I was sure the final plot twist would be that Joe was twisting the truth. Because also, he doesn't seem to have killed anyone. From what he says... But the summary for the 4th novel to come says he's ready for murder... So... We'll see !!
I’d love a season 5 with joe getting held responsible for his season one crimes by some super sleuth detective. One thing that has always irked me is all police who come in contact with joe look at him on the surface instead of getting the proper creep vibes he deserves 😂 there’s a video of joe with his inner monologues cut out… he’s literally a creep once you remove that aspect of the show and see how many awkward silences he puts people through
Could you do a book review for each book? Doesnt seem like there's any high quality reviews on CZcams atm.
Mary Kay is not going to appear. The Mary Kay from the the show was both Marienne and Natalie. They simply split Mary Kay character in two. We can obviously see this due to HIGH similarities both Natalie and Marienne have with Mary Kay.
Isnt "mary" the woman he marries supposed to be marienne though? They both have similar names and a daughter
Marienne would never marry him after what he did to her
That's what I wanted too. I thought they were gonna be almost the same when I saw they both worked in a libery
In the book it's mary kay and on tv it's marienne, in the book he marries mary kay but on tv there's no marriage with marienne. In the book mk's daughter is at the end of high school and falls in love with joe, but on tv marienne's daughter is still a child.
@@tokyo204Not on tv, but the original character from the book 'mary kay' married him.
People thought or wanted You to end on season 4 but come on... him just taking his own life wouldn't be a satisfying ending. There's more to go on in the show; like seeing his true self without the denial of being a "good person" other subplots. Like is his son henry gonna come in play? Then of course the continuation of Joe & Kate's relationship, and then maybe season 5 can actually end up with him being either in prison or killed by one of his victims
What would be more interesting? Henry being the opposite of Joe? Or him being a Joe 2.0?
@@hadessdlt8720ohh. Good question. Hmm...i feel there'll be some high stakes if henry was like the opposite of his father and ending up being the one to take his father out or behind bars. Because wouldn't it become repetitive or boring for his son to be another him? Orrr If there were to have a spin off show or something where his son eventually finds out his biological father past; being a serial killer and people are linking it to him and hes trying to prove he's not like his dad, tries saving people that were Joe's victims or other victims. Heck maybe he becomes a detective and somehow is doing a better job than the police
@@Destinnies In my fic he´s a second Joe lmao.
But not as obsessive with girls like his father, more like Love who sometimes has angry issues
@@hadessdlt8720 oh fic? Interesting. Maybe he would later become like that if not go to the savior route
@@Destinnies yeah, i just find the son being the enemy of his father kinda cliche now
At the end of season 5, we should learn that Joe is just a split personality of Dennis from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, who's been imagining a world where people treat him as being just as charming and smart as he feels he is, instead of the reality that he's as much of an idiotic creep as the rest of the gang.
I'm not sure if this will happen in the books or show, but I feel like a good ending for him is for everything he did to be exposed. While he's trying to make a run for it, he has some sort of accident. The result of that accident is him being trapped inside his own body. He is completely aware of his surroundings but is never able to speak or move again.
omg isn't this what happened to mr. mooney?
it would be karmic if joe also gets a stroke and ends up in the exact same position
Thanks Much !
It ends with Joe seeing a HOT Corrections Officer/Warden, and he goes “Hello….You.” 💀
Tbh I don't think he'll ever get what he deserves unless he feels the same amount of pain, fear, and terror he put his victims through, and what they had most likely felt, right up to the moment they all died. They were all somebody's child, at one point. Somebody's friend, daughter/son, lover, etc. A life is something so precious, and to selfishly take it away before someone is able to fulfil theirs, is incredibly vile.
I still get surprised when I hear about Joe Goldberg's fanbase and how women are so charmed by him. It actually creeps me out that you are seeing a serial killer's inner monologue and these women are still swooning for someone like him.
True. Joe's definitely gonna end up either in prison or get killed.
Yeah honestly this makes me question the show. Are we supposed to like Joe and root for him or hate him? Because in my eyes he is wholly unlikeable.
@@DastardlyDavid69 It's more about seeing what new mess he gets himself into. He keeps trying to live a normal life, but at the same time fricks himself over every time.
It also funny seeing how much of a narcissist he is. He constantly judges others for being exactly what he is, he's a hipsters who hates hipsters, a murderer who hates murderers, a cheater who hates cheaters, his moral compass depends entirely on whether or not he did the bad thing. He thinks he incredibly smart, but he makes the worst decisions that almost get him caught every single time and gets away from going to jail for life by the skin of his teeth every time he kills, it's mostly luck(plot armor) that makes him get away scot free. Several people know he's a murderer and conveniently there's always a stupid reason they never rat him out.
But one gripe I have is that they follow up the end of season 3 where Joe frickups have now costs him his child and two of his toes and the start of season 4 with Joe literally mentally splitting in two so he could ruin everything for himself and then saying because he's delusional and rationalizes the irrational, he now has dissociative identity disorder out of nowhere which is like mixing up a bunch of forms of Autism together from all over the spectrum and then saying it's makes sense because it's all Autism when that's not how Autism works.
exactly completely agree while I understand why some fans would think some of Joe's victims deserved it that still doesn't make it right that he killed them as at the end of the day a person who does bad things is still a person who could be capable of change.
I think Joe Goldberg from the novels is the updated version of Tom Ripley from the Patricia Highsmith novels. I don't think there's a conclusive "comeuppance" to the character. He is who he is. He just goes through life following the next YOU. The audiobook adaptation of Caroline Kepnes' books are voiced by the amazing Santino Fontana and he will always be the voice of Joe Goldberg for me. I think the fact that Penn Badgley has come to hate the character of Joe Goldberg (whom he portrays and now serves as producer on the Netflix show) reflects in how the character is treated in the series. Joe will almost certainly die or be incarcerated on the Netflix series, but his character will almost certainly live on in print. Which, when you think about it, is how Joe Goldberg would have wanted it...
I always imagine joe ending up in the crazy house never changing
Was stalking your channel and saw a new 1min old video 😂
I hope there is a bad ending where the villain (joe) survives and isn’t in prison or so, idk it’s boring if every show/movie has a happy ending
That’s how dexter ended
@@lucerocardenas5571that’s how the boys should end in my opinion because everyone is just assuming Homelander will die. Would be funny if the show ends with him as president.
He has been getting away with it, though, lmao. It could have easily ended with season 3. Kinda perfect, really. Then they made his character become sloppy and a schizo. Really, I think he needs to get caught or die. Not as a "happy" ending, because the happy ending would have been Beck got out and sent him to jail and he never killed or stalked again. Just an ending where it all catches up with him. Very clear by the end of season 4 he's so comfortable with killing that he's cocky about it. I wanna see him fully unravel. Like Azula from Avatar.
GREAT BRAINPLOT VIDEO YOU NOVELS TV SHOW FOLLOWING UP ❤😊
Thanks!
Dude I feel like you just read the wiki entry or some goodreads reviews. Joe didn't leave Love and Henry he was forced to leave by the Quinns, he was also given a few million dollars.
True. The Quinns gave him $4 million to stay away. Didn’t they also have a guy working for them to keep an eye on Joe?
I really want to see joes brother in season 5
broo..netflix might hire you as their writer now
Ummm... there was a LOT of differences even with book 2. I don't even understand HOW they would do the 3rd book AFTER the 4th season. Mary Kay was Marianne basically. I am sure that the 4th book will turn more toward the series than vice-versa
There’s a new book titled “for you and only you
5:27
He mentions that in the video
The first and second books were good, the third seemed rush because the show grew in popularity. And now there is gonna be a forth already. I hope it's not rushed too.
How are we gonna close the chapter, you mean?
I like the idea of him being locked away for life because he got caught but also like the idea of the survivors bringing him down
2:14 "That jar of you know what is still out there, and not tied up.
It's not.
In the show it makes no sense for it to be brought up several years after because there'd be no DNA. Urine doesn't contain much DNA, even less so for male urine. What little DNA there is in urine would also disappear after a 24 hour period, as it doesn't last long once expelled from the body. Bringing up YEARS later, there'd be nothing there to test for. Even if they tested when fresh, by the time it was found, there'd be too little there to be able to pin it on Joe, it'd likely come back inconclusive.
In the books Love pretends to be Peaches lesbian lover and retrieves the jar from Peaches home.
damn Love is the best! i miss her!
Santino Fontana does the audiobooks for YOU. You're welcome.
And he makes listening to them SOOOOOOO worth it!!
I think him going to prison would be very symbolic. Joe is now the one in the cage. I think that’s really the only ending that would be good imo
I think that's the best option/route for the character!
But in a solitary cage with no one next to him. Maybe getting beat it by some inmates, he needs to suffer like his victims.
it would also be ironic given he used to get locked up by Mr Mooney whenever he did anything wrong so it would basically be like he was a kid again getting punished for being Naughty.
2:39 Henry is named Forty in the books
Interesting!
Personally, i think that his victims that lived: Marienne, Sherry and Cary, Ellie etc. Will work together to try and take him down the legal way first. However, Kate gets him out so they them decide to take him out by stomping him out cause they know death is the only way to take him down for good. I kinda picture it as one lft the death scenes from handmaid's tale. I won't say which one for spoilers but i think those who know, know what I'm talking about
At this point, there should be a clever detective entering the story
Very true! That could make things interesting!
I read urine doesn't hold that much dna?
What do the white shirts mean when the actors wear them
A ending could be him narrating his crimes in a mental ward to a psychiatrist/other mental patient. There was always that possibility because he narrates it in the show to begin with. So why not have it end with him sitting in a padded room/common room discussing it? The only reason I don't think it will be a prison is because he is mentally unstable, as seen at the end of season 4.
That would be interesting!
I thought Marykate was 2 different people being Marianne and Kate like the names came from the book to give an Easter egg idk
In the book it's mary kay
I guess Joe’s part of Netflix & book You-nverse
I read the books before the show, I spent the entire damn show screaming at the TV because WTF IS GOING OOONNN
Ngl I would of loved Joe to get arrested and Love to free him in season 3 and hopefully Candace would still be alive in season 3 trying to take them down.
That would have been good to see wouldn't it!
@@BrainPilot yes I thought Candace getting revenge that would of been a good finale maybe if her and forty were still alive. Joe was obsessed with Candace in S1 then hates her in S2 but then apologises to her for attacking her and he understood what he done and it hurt her. Then Love killed her I think the book him getting arrested but Love using her money to free him would of been interesting Love would of tried to kill her in S3 but if she still with Forty Love could be conflicted bc she could make Forty happy and Joe would try to stop her bc he still loves or is obsessed with Candace. S3 could end with Candace killing or getting Joe arrested getting closure and Love would kill herselft like the book forty maybe alive idk. But I also love your S5 theory of Joe mum taken him down it brings it to the beginning and it been haunting him this whole time in flashbacks
@@gamingoutlaws9765go watch season 3 and season 4 💀 love and candace are dead
The ending that's appropriate or the ending he deserves... 🤔🤔🤔
Silly me.......... I thought the 2 were the SAME 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I hope In the last season they bring the therapist back…
Am i the only one who thinks Marie Kay is Marianne?
She is the woman based off her. I guess?
She's sort of a mix between Marienne and the neighbor, Nathalie, I think
No other than her name and both having a daughter they don't have anything in common even their age and their daughters' age varies a lot.
Because historically books were peoples movies before there were movies
i don’t think it’s completely fair to compare the books to the show. they didn’t even have source material for this fourth season or the third one at the time. the show has more side plots and more drama added for entertainment, which they do very well but the show has definitely taken its own direction and i think it’s impossible to predict what they will do even with the fourth book coming out. even the first book which was VERY similar to the show, had major differences. then the second and third books are only similar in characters and even then you have HUGE differences. reading the books and watching the show is still such a different experience but i can’t wait to see what each one has in store for joe
Joe kills anyone who discovers his crimes (or suspects, because he is paranoid) and rivals him for the interest of a woman. In Beck's case, he killed her because she found out that he always stalking her and killed Peach and Benji (who rivaled him for Beck's attention), Candace, on the other hand, I don't know what the context was because I never saw anything about what took him to kill Candace if she found out about or betrayed him.
In Amy's case he got mad at her because she tricked him, hit him and killed the famous comedian because even though he was really mad at Amy, he still wanted to be a ''protective man'' which he was mad at Amy supposedly being dating a rich and famous guy who makes fun/joke about her.
Delila he killed because he thought she was suspecting he had killed the famous comedian, the same with a policeman who he believed suspected he had killed Delila. He arrested Melanda because she attacked him and suspected that he would be a pedophile like her teenage times friend and Melanda committed suicide, but Joe wouldn't let her out of the 'coop' alive.
Are you referring to the books or the show?
I feel like the books really went off the deep and and strayed from the point of the original novel.
As of the third or fourth book, Joes wife Maryanne (unofficial) is pushed down the stairs by her daughter (who is 18 in the books).
Honestly the writing gave me whiplash - but it was entertaining at least.
The first book is the best by far.
I was hoping for love to play a more significant role in the books, but she really just chooses to accept joe and then they’re separated.
It’s too late now, but I think it would have been a great ending earlier on to have Joe on death row, and as he’s in the execution chamber, he sees the women he’s killed and says “I knew you loved me”.
Doesn't Caroline Kepnes also work on the show in some way?
Yes she does. There's also a new book in the YOU series coming out.
Put it to 1.5x
I love books so much but Jesus Christ penn badgley’s acting and the script are leagues above the book imo
Yeah he does take it to another level doesn't he!
I'd say it's worth listening to the audiobooks overall because you still get the unhinged monologues, just in a SLIGHTLY different voice.
I’m 3 minutes into the first book and it is already weird lol
the suicide ending would've been dark and good
After seeing 4 seasons of show Joe more anti villain than full out villain in my op
Arrg, it is based on books??? I have to read them. I prefer that he left Love than this ending in the show!
I dont see him in jail for what already happened. There have been always a coulprit, so you cannot jump on Joe all of the sudden.
I personally think Joe going to jail leaves things too open-ended. He needs to, ahem, *go* , if something happens to him in the Netflix series.
There are books??
There are indeed!
Is there a moment that Joe tries to comites suicide in the books? As he did in the série
I hope they'll just stop at the right point! I actually didnt liked the 2 part of season 4 much, when it turned out that he did everything WITHOUT knowing it.. that what joe was for me, someone who does terrible things, but he knows what hes doing! So i hope they make a good ending and thats it. Not makeing season after season and fuck it up.
Thank u for covering this. 🙏🏽 @brainpilot
Glad you enjoyed!
Everyone in these comments saying prison but idk I think that’s a cop out .
Doubt a guy like him will go to prison… because of the power, meaning he will either:
-get away with it and have a happy ending
-killed
-suicide

Why are you so wrong about what happens in the books? Did you read them properly or did you skip specific details for the video.
