7 Best Open World Games Like Skyrim

- Although many RPGs have been released since 2011, few can capture the freedom that Skyrim achieved all those years ago. However, some games have come closer than others, and today, we’re going to be taking a look at the 7 best open world games like Skyrim.
-
#skyrim - Hry
The fact that one of the 7 "best" games isn't even finished yet shows that this genre has very slim pickings.
Like with `The Witcher´ in the height of BG3's record sales the noobs babble how far in the future the Witcher 4 is. Doesn't fit a coordinated industry. Fakes.
I say this all the time, people act like open-world fantasy games are really common and that the genre is over saturated, but the reality is there are very few games that do what the Elder Scrolls games do.
The fact that, among the 7 Best Games, there are 2 mod conversions, one unfinished game, and the rest are outdated by a far sight
A lot of people like to trash on Skyrim saying that there’s better games. Maybe there are a lot of games “better” than Skyrim quality wise but there is no real replacement for the game that does what Skyrim does but better.
And this is what happens when people are unwilling to compete with a larger company.
the problem with the Skyrim civil war was that both sides were under Thamor influence, Ulfric was considered a person of interest, and the white gold tower treaty was a shame...in the end, the Thalmor were going for their goal of destroying Mundos, by destroying its ANCHORS ( one being the cult of Talos ) and committing planetary suicide so they could return to their previously Godly status ( as per their crazy beliefs ), so there should be a possibility of uniting both parties, and fighting the TRUE enemy: the Thalmor...
*standing ovation ensues* .... fr tho this should be a mod
Nords are racist. They are also the true enemy
There is no single game that is as good as Skyrim. I'm afraid that TES VI besides graphics improvements will be lacking of that feeling of Skyrim. That nostalgic, that nordic atmosphere, that feeling we can call like it's your second home.
I was so happy seeing the community and higher-resolution patch for Arcanum! The detail in this game is heartwarming ❤
Skyrim is like Michael Jackson, there will never be another one, many will copy and come close but none will be it.
Ehhh, skyrim isn't even the best elder scrolls game, it'll be toppled quickly as soon as any studio tries ANYTHING
The Witcher 3 is the game that reminds me the most of Skyrim, I just started playing Skyrim for the first time and it reminds me a lot of The Witcher 3, I can see where they got the inspiration for that game from.
One game is dragons dogma not exactly deep with quests but its a decently old game but also a hack and slash game with fun moves the magic is also really awesome dragons dogma 2 is coming soon so itll definitely be better
I’m surprised dragons dogma isn’t mentioned, that game is amazing
I have that on PS i love it
I don't think it is compared to Skyrim, I mean, it is a great RPG, but they are very different
Dragon dogma really amazing game. Ur physical and magical dmg and build actually matter even for later in the game but difficulty quite the same like very hard in the beginning but later in the game you're actually walking god even without armor. Now you mention it i really want to play that game again and experience that nightmare brittleback insland fighting monsters and a fucking grim reaper.
also kingdom of amalur
Honorable mention: Gothic 3 along with the Risen 1 with all the union mods you can get, Gothic games redefined the open world description for me. Now im playing Gothic 2 New balance scout patch, Gothic 2 community is so alive and developers working on stuff, make major patches like every 6 months, its great, because every new game sucks hard with their super modern monotone feeling
wish you put their steam links or even the actual spelling of the name of the game in description, seriously how do you spell gadania?
Gedonia
Where do you find the background videos you use in your videos or do you record them yourself in-game?
the best option is Oblivion. Remember the video title isn't "like The Elder Scrolls Series", but just "like Skyrim"
Mora and oblivion truly the best rpg of all time. Skyrim is literally the worst game of the series
can someone put the name or links of games
I loved the first Two Worlds in spite of it's flaws.
I still sometimes listen to "Footsteps in the Sand" played on flute
I had both on 360 but on the 1st ones case it said on the back "oblivion on steroids" lmfaoo
a really cool game that nobody talks about is KOA: Reckoning, it’s a lot like skyrim. i love that game so much
Can you decipher?
@@Berlioz1991 He's talking about a game called Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. It's a single player 3rd person RPG. The graphics are stylized, kinda like World of Warcraft. The game has a remaster, but from what I hear the remaster just slightly improved graphics and that's it. The original maker of the game closed their studio but the game was picked up by another publisher. Reckoning is on PC and Xbox, probably on PS as well.
@@ImCptnAwesome thanks! Turns out I know that game
Outward call out!!! great choice for this list, nice one!
Did try Arcanum back in the day, couldn’t get far into the story or game play. Tried it because it was a mix of fantasy and Victorian era style steam punk with guns. What I wouldn’t do for someone to remake it be more Skyrim like with its settings.
That would probably be a disaster. Arcanum is great because of the writing and huge amount of dialogue options. A company like betheseda would pbly turn it into a random shooter/looter.
I would love to see a game exactly like Skyrim but more in a low res / 8-bit style. Having a super smooth pixelated game with customization and huge open world can be a fresh thing instead of the always “hyper realistic” looking games which often don’t look good
Sounds like Valheim, not exactly like Skrim since its a survival game, but very close to your description.
morrowind?
are open world RPGs really so rare that we need to compare them to Skyrim? crazy times
they are
With the success of Baldur's Gate 3, studios are no doubt scouring the IP boneyard for another CRPG to reboot. Here's to hoping we get a new Arcanum!
BG _3_ is not a reboot. I'd be happy if Larian did another Divinity game like Divinity 2. That game still draws me back for a playthrough every year or so. COVID saw three playthroughs of Divinity 2 and one of Drakan. Barring that, if they did a sci-fi game, I may just explode from excitement.
@@trappedkitty5335 Same world with new characters and enemies but with cameos from original supporting characters and Easter eggs galore; smells like reboot to me. I'm an old school D&D guy, not necessarily a CRPG fan, so I passed on Divinity although I did hear it was great. I played BG1 & 2 back in the day because they were D&&D games and I enjoyed them. BG 3 does feel like a great job f updating that game style.
yes I want a new Arcanum so badly!
I won't touch BG3. It suffers from too many intrusive cut scenes which break immersion in the best of times, and I don't care for the sensibilities of the writers in this type of game intruding to that extent on the world I am to traverse. Cut scenes take control away from the player and put the player in a subjective position that borders on brainwashing and indoctrination. You can't put a pig in a dress and expect me to give a crap.
pretty sure it would be a disaster. Arcanum had a very specific setting and TONS of racism and social satyre. No matter what company makes it an arcanum 2 would be completely off imo. A remaster on a modern engine would be great tho.
LOVE that you put Arcanum in there. Such an awesome game, I keep coming back to it.
dude you need to use a lower 3rd and title the games you're talking about then put them in the video description. Like how tf is anyone going to know how to spell Gedonia to be able to find it?
thx man. I ve searching for someone that spells correctly the second game to find it in google. WTF of videos in this channel
Agreed. A lot of the time details like that will determine whether or I subscribe or not.
Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon
still waiting for Beyond Good and Evil 2 to be released
Don't forget the Knights of the Old Republic re-make.
Here's the official list of the 7 best games like Skyrim, in no particular order.
1- The Elder Scrolls: Arena
2- The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall
3- The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
4- The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion
5- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
6- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Anniversary Edition
7- The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim Legendary Edition
Arcanum is one of my favorite games. Always nice to see people talk about it.
I've tried Arcanum, and just getting to the first town for side quests took me a while to figure out. The map is not at all intuitive. The buttons to do anything are hard to work with. The character creation doesn't really help you understand what stats WILL help you survive. Most of it's a crap shoot. Especially the trait system, which is often more punitive than actually helpful. Though it's true there's a fairly insane customizability, and you CAN get through the game by being the smooth talker with ungodly amounts of charisma - you're GOING to need to fight some time. So I tend to want to go Half Ogre (because other than Darksun Shattered Lands, no other game has ever let me play a semi giant race - and even in tabletop D&D you need a very permissive DM to allow that kind of Character) The problem for me is all the points you need to build up to be able to do ANYTHING in skills, or magic. There are trainers and costs involved to training; but there's also a skill point investment attached to it as well = that's TOO MUCH bullshit just to get stronger so I can be better at surviving all the crap the game's going to throw my way in the long run. It's the same problem I had with the Gothic and Risen series'.
* I would LOVE to see them re-make the game and stream-line it, a VERY little. Make the UI more intuitive, maybe fuck off with the skill trainers - or if you do actually find to be able to use a trainer, then don't you dare charge me any skill points. One or the other, assholes. Not both. Have the weapons types be a bit more robust, and more commonly found. Maybe cut down a few of the less useful magic trees (they can all have their niche uses I know, but most of the spells in any school aren't what you're focused on. There ARE clear standouts that EVERY mage wants) Do that, mark the side quests and fix the bugs attached to them, maybe give new players a quest objective for at least the main quests - or a journal that's actually helpful - and a retooled Arcanum would be absolutely awesome... but I'm still waiting on VTMB 2 to be any good, and it'll be a while before I can afford to hope for another older game I like to be salvaged. [Frustrated by, and gave up on does not mean I can't see it's potential]
Sorry but bo it isnt crusader kings is a politival strategy gane eith rog elements not a open world rpg
where can i find le second game please
Finally! Someone mentioned outward!
Never heard of it, but it looks pretty. It was the only title in the video that I thought about buying. Is it as frustrating as the video made it out to be?
@ricosuave6898 It's similar to most souls like games in the fact that after a certain point, you just learn to accept death. But it's satisfying as hell to walk back to a city with an inventory full of loot. Also, the music and the art/style are beautiful and very unique
@ricosuave6898 Unlike Skyrim, you have to be careful how you go about all fights. You can't just charge into combat. It's easier with two players, but it's very rewarding if you're playing solo. If you have the patience and mental strength of a monk. But I'd really recommend it. And please note that most reviews are just people whining that the game's not perfectly what they want.
Wasn't Isles of Adalar abandoned by the devs? Seems like the game hasn't received updates for a while. The funds probably dried up?
i just started the game again yesterday with some mods and they work so great i love the game!!!!!
I think the beyond Skyrim mod projects are our best bet to get that Skyrim fix.
This channel is pure gold, I still dont understand why people do not subscribe...
they're milk drinkers
@@TaylorPlays_ Indeed.
Well The deeper the RPG, the better. And a deep RPG is no easy feat.
I would put the highly underated game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, on here.
Really nice games
Damn I had no Idea chronicles of myrthana existed. I loved the gothic series, well 3 was ok and we don't talk about the 4th. I'll have to play that
Witcher, Zelda, Dragon's Dogma all left out...
Can anyone list the names of the games please? I couldn't catch some of them due to hearing processing issues. Thanks!
Arcanum is so great. It’s in my Top 5 RPGs of all time, easily.
This list does have a couple of mods already, but there’s also as feral, the TC for Skyrim.
you forgot to include Kingdoms of Amalur, one heck of a game.
lol how is a crusader kings mod an open world rpg
Yeah, I kinda feel like that one was a stretch and only included because it was Elder Scrolls themed.
What’s the game in thumbnail?
I'd guess its made up.
The player character seems to be from Skyrim while the giant seems to be from Dragons Dogma or Giants uprising.
just looks like skyrim but a lil modded
Let’s face it, the next game anywhere close to skyrim will be the next elder scrolls
Bethesda is dead.... cant do anything not utterly broken and terrible ever since skyrim/ish....
@@insiainutorrt259 😪 why is that
es6 will never happen
People are angry because of Fallout 76 and Starfield@@Do27gg
@@sandeshjha5906 game studios aren’t gonna get everything right idk why people turn on them so fast
I have it and really enjoyed Two Worlds 2
Risen was one of the best games i ever played back in the day
Where’s Kingdom Come Deliverance? The most similar game to Skyrim
KCD is kind of an "anti skyrim", it has the same base elements but differs drastically.
First is the fact that while skyrim is a fantasy rpg, KCD is a historical one (set in the Kingdom of Bohemia in 1403).
Second is the fact that while skyrim is accessible to everyone, KCD is much more realistic and hard to master (combat especially is much more realistic and what makes many newcomes quit the game (because they assume the tutuorial they're given is enough to go out and fight (it isn't), this is due to the fact that both you and Henry (the player character) have to learn to become good, Henry is a village boy that sucks at everything when you start out, so you gotta grind with him too.
man, in 2023 we have text to enable and help people navigate your video
9:30 better underwater explanation 🤔 need more details to understand
Outward is a a very underrated game
Apart from skyrim, how many of those can also be enjoyed in VR?
homework is a terrible thing
im def buying Isles of Adalar
Elder Kings 2 is a strategy game, not an open world rpg. 🤦♂️ Studios just aren't interested in the genre anymore I guess. Still waiting on VTMB 2.
Honestly the only game that matches open world feeling like skyrim for me is ER
My problem with outward was the combat. The animations and actual hits didn't match
"adalar" means isles in Turkish. Its a funny little concidence. Isles of isles
Good video.
Number 5 Ohwoodwwdd....thanks
Enderal?
Gothic1-2-3, Risen1-2-3.
So witcher 3 doesnt get a mention?
Only Fallout or other Elder Scrolls games can be like Skyrim
Where’s Risen and Elex?
Amazing games fall damage and I’m glad I’m amongst the first to watch the video
How is fallout not on the list?
i'd rather wait for tes6 tbh
@@Ultrasoniic tnx! i'll need it!
Well discover immortality.
Even after "Starfield"?
@@_Dovar_ what else is there to do man? only hope remains
All games took from Gothic series
8:26 in Poland Gothic II is criminally overrated, so hearing this is weird :D
I just wanna cheat
If i cant cheat i aint playing....
Dangit
EVERQUEST!
Asgard's Wrath 2
besides this, none of it is in first person view
Morrowind has more freedom than Skyrim.
As did the 1500s compared to the 2000s
Witcher 3
bro you forgot Kingdoms of Amalur - Re-Reckoning the reason i stampled upon your video was looking for games like it
There is no open world game like Skyrim because Skyrim in and of itself is a mediocre game. What makes Skyrim special, and why it's arguably the most successful game in history is the ease at which it can be modded and the modding community that's sprung up around it. No other game has that. People tend to forget or are too young to realise just how shoddy a game it was on launch, Dragons flying through scenery, broken quests, and graphics that were a step down in terms of its peers than Oblivion was before it. The modding community have taken this game apart and rebuilt it from the inside out, transforming it into an entirely new game that's stood the test of time. But without that, Skyrim would have been long forgotten.
So, you hate Skyrim because the modding community helped it to the point where it became the best arpg ever released, right?
Had to mention enderal, way better than skyrim
I'll save u the time waste just go & Play "Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon" just like Skyrim
Theres no game like skyrim or better
I knew youtube was gonna drop knowledge when 'Two Worlds: Two' made the list
Dragons dogma, enough said.
is it open world?
I wouldn't really say that is like Skyrim apart from the fact it's also a fantasy RPG.
AMAZING game yes. Like skyrim? Not really
Sorry there is none, no game is like Skyrim. Skyrim is a unique masterpiece.
Disapointed in this video.
Outward is outright awful
Maybe I missed it but I assume this is a non Bethesda list? How can Fallout New Vegas or Fallout 3 not be on here? Even Fallout 4 deserves a spot. Haven't played Starfield yet but I know to wait like 1-2 years before playing a Bethesda title.
Lmao
Take the microphone out of your nose
May be nice but all are far too old looking.
Yes, as we've all seen in recent years, realistic graphics equal a good game that actually works at launch. That's sarcasm, in case you can't tell.
I couldn't thank you for pointing it out.
Even at the times they games were made there was better graphics or better ways to present a game, sure I could play a great game with pixel art, but not all people like that style and it detracts from the game.
Coming in with your small opinion of graphics not making a good game is irrelevant, it was never part of the consideration.
@@jtplays7411
I like the older titles, I'm tired of wondering if my kit can do ultra settings this year. Also, older titles tend to have more 'eclectic' mods available. It was a more innocent time. Also, old games on an ultrawide can really be breathtaking. Limiting ourselves to only what's new is a mistake.
I can recommend outward, it just got a definitive edition this year

What? You are comparing Gothic game with Skyrim????Skyrim is junk!
