- If you have questions on how to (de)solder/program the EEPROM, this video is not for you! I am not responsible if you brick or damage your cluster in any way.
This method may or may not work for you! VW have many vendors who make clusters that look very similar physically but have completely different controller and memory mapping internally. So it is an absolute requirement for you to save the EEPROM before modifying! You need to have an original backup in case your memory mapping is different and so you can revert it back to original!
This video is just showing you how i managed to enable needle sweep (staging) in my 2012 GTI cluster using EEPROM dump and reprogram. In my case it is actually possible to do this mod via VCDS (and i do have the genuine cable), but i just wanted to see if I can do it the basic way :).
Mine is a VDO cluster (5K6 920 973 C) for your reference.

Someone said old flux may become conductive, not sure if it's true or not.
Awesome video! As asked below i would like to know where you get your eeprom knowledge, how to know which byte is responsible for what and etc. Also does that CH341A programmer software is compatible only with that programer you have or is it universal? Cheers, Marius

i usually buy an eeprom 24c16w or 24c16wp eeprons are like flashdrive depending on it each has different storage space size m..I switch to eeprom because that particular programming block may be defective and not keeping the programmed data may not keep the programming inside Eeprom typical recording defective
Wish I knew the location address for this in the beetle series. And also would be sweet to know where the radio code is located in the panel. There is supposed to be data sent to radio to automatically unlock after battery cable distribution as long as it’s stock radio.

No. The MK5 does NOT have the same EEPROM. The MK5 has the 24C32 while the MK6 has the 24C64. I'm looking for the option to do it in the MK5 myself.

24c32 and 24c64 are the same byte and same bit. It should work on both clusters.

All clusters should be able to support it. Just knowing where and what coding to change to is the issue.

I can only say SMD or some sort of COBB or Cree bulbs.
For these bulbs to ever fail, it means that there is an electrical fault in the circuit like a cracked board, and not the bulb themselves.

A small word of warning, you risk damaging the chip by desoldering, soldering it to wires and then removing the wires and resoldering it back to the cluster. The safer option is to get a lead with a spring loaded clip to clip onto the chip while it is still soldered to the cluster.
Others may not be so lucky as you.

I just bought my self a 2010 Jetta 2.5 sat for four years so I had to fix a few things on it but got it all done but I noticed my rpm was not working so I went and got a used cloister and didn’t know I had to get it reprogrammed so I put my old one back now I have the ABS/BRAKE/STEERING WHEEL AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ON they are blinking but it didn’t do it before until I try to swap cloister anyone has any ideas how to get it fix car runs great but is annoying cause when I drive that’s all I can see lol any help is appreciated thnx

I'm sure you've been asked a million times, but have you done any soldering work with a VW MIB 2 radio (CP REMOVAL)?
And when the radio’s EEPROM chip has been saved which byte contains the security information, VIN# info, etc.? That would be a huuuge time saver if you knew this (or where I can find info on it)

Once you created the backup BIN file, you can't damage anything (just restore the BIN file if it doesn't work). I advise against desoldering the chip, and simply clip it to the programmer instead. There is no risk of anything going wrong.

@@RosiekM once the EEPROM is read, there is a checksum option to do a verification that the file that was saved is the actual one on the EEPROM to be sure.

The MK5 uses the 24C32 EEPROM

Dont bother. You will break your car. The mileage is also stored in other parts of your car too. You will have to change them all.
The same chip stores the mileage in Kilometersx10. You would backup the BIN file, then use a tool like AVDI to change the mileage, and write back to the chip (but at that point it has to be back on the car to overite the other modules like ECU and transmission).

That's what the video claims. If I knew what the coding is for my (non-VCDS codable MK5 Golf) then I'd try it myself.

Yes, a clone of the EEPROM is possible as shown in the video for creating the BIN file, but it would also include the immobilizer information as well.
