    Red is also good at the end of the day because it doesn't inhibit melatonin production. That's why there's a 'night shift' on the iPhone that adds the red light to it, and on a Kindle fire there's a red light you can program on.

      Adin's Music "Hi" and "bye" is prompted communication and I use the word communication lightly in that situation. It's basically no different than if I told her to put her hand on head. Asking for music was a genuine demand that she communicated on her own. I film on my iPhone 6s + and that's why she grabbed it at the end of the video. She knows I have music on it. Thanks for watching. I promise a communication video is coming soon.

    I discovered your channel a month or two ago and I’ve binged episode after episode ever since. your family is awesome!
    My youngest son (12) was diagnosed with ASD Level 1 (Aspergers) in June this year after living with just an ADHD diagnosis for the last five years.
    In my son’s room, I created an area in his dormer window nook with his stuffed animals, snow globes, a blanket and a big joe bean bag chair. He seemed to always be sitting in that nook of his room, so I wanted to make it cozier. I did this well before I knew he had autism. Turns out I created a sensory area for him without even realizing I was doing that. Your video made the connection for me. I’m feeling like a winning parent right now. Haha

    My mom is a special ed teacher and she has a sensory room with bean bags, blue string lights (that's I gave her☺️), those large blue gym mats, and different textured exercise balls (like one is smooth, another has blunt little spikes, etc). She also has one of those camera baby monitors and the viewfinder is set up at her desk. That's where the kids go if they throw tantrums or have meltdowns, the camera is to make sure they don't hurt themselves. I hang out in there after her school gets out because it's so cool and comfortable:)

    I'm autistic and my mom at the very least has SPD and so we have so many projector lights. One of them is made for outside so the whole house gets bathed in this slowly twirling blue lights, like if you're underwater. There's another one though it has lasers and it it's super stripey and cool. Our whole house has been turned into a sensory room. We have stim toys everywhere, kinetic sand, hot wheels, everything. I love it.

    Did Abbie always seem to understand language? My daughter is completely non verbal too but she has had the hardest time understanding words, she can imitate signs but if we said a word she would not know it to sign it on her own. If that makes sense. Shes 5 so I didn't know if it got better over time...

      @likeabunnie Před 6 lety +2

      Christina Teresa Brown has she been able to work with a speech therapist? (I feel like they are more "communication" therapists in lots of instances like when you're trying to teach nonverbal methods of communication)
      I know some kids will pick it up better if you try and sign as much as possible while speaking, too... But it sounds like the primary challenge for you at the moment is teaching the connection between her requesting something, via sign or picture of it, etc, and understanding that the object is related to her action)
      Not sure if that made a ton of sense the way I said it... And I realize this is a year old so maybe she's got it figured out better now, you sound like a great parent who will help continue to support her! Hope you are all well! :)

    • @Jessylane318
      @Jessylane318 Před 6 lety +5

      I teach non-verbal students and the main thing I’ve learned is to teach concrete words with the object. So have a football, sign the word, then teach the verbalization. Afterwards, teach familiar phrases and questions. I want... football. The hardest part for me to teach is wait and no. But my students have made tremendous gains using this formula and consistency.
