    In this video I try and improve on the plain silver wheels which I fitted to my Audi R8 Spyder in January because the grey wheels on a grey car looked so wrong.

    Surprised you stayed with the Michelin Andrew ? With your love for Goodyear

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem +2

      Fair point Any - 2 reasons for that 1) The R8 isn't a very tyre sensitive car, loads of traction with quattro and mechanical grip and put some new modern high performance tyres on it and you won't be able to push the boundaries safely on the road. 2) The price! It's hard to bin PS4S with 5mm of tread and with my channel views being so low right now, I daren't ask anyone to lend me some for review as I won't be able to repay their investment.

    DIY paint protection film on the bonnet ? Your brave... Wheels brighten the car. We all need some sun now.

      @volkswizard  Před měsícem +1

      Brave or stupid David?! Actually it looks OK as the Audi badge on bonnet has a cut out on the PPF so use this as your guide and hard to go wrong with locating the film but plenty of other ways to go wrong like trying to do it on a windy day like on the Golf!

    Question, do u tell your insurance company about this as a mod? Or, since it’s the same wheel and a factory option finish is it ok

      🥱😂

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem +2

      As long as it's a factory finish then it's OK as they can order a new wheel to match if a claim requires it.

    The bright wheels are 10 times better Andrew 😎 Never saw the attraction in dark wheels, especially black - as they always make the wheels look small in the wheelwells, plus they expose slightly dirty tyres too 😉

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem

      Thanks David - totally agree re black wheels - the only conundrum is what to do with GT4 - I think because its on 20s and is smaller than R8 they look OK even in satin black and also red is a good contrast. Maybe if they get damaged I will be brave enough to go Satin Aurum (gold) as I always wanted a GT4 with gold wheels. And they most definitely won't look small!

    As usual, enjoyable video Andrew. What week was this? We had a Lake Blue (turquoise) Jeep Avenger Electric week commencing 8 April, and were on holiday in Herefordshire (via Birmingham and Solihull); wondered if the car that passes you on the motorway at 02:47 was us!
    Off to Stanford Hall tomorrow, if you're there, let me know! (Rich Gooding)

    Doesn’t matter if they are black or grey it doesn’t look good on any car. You can never see the detail of the wheel.
    And your are going to regret the diamond cut. As soon as you get a stone chip and water gets under the lacquer the white worm will set in.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem +2

      I'm aware of the diamond cut issues, this car won't go out in salty conditions if I can avoid it so it's not as much of a risk as on a daily car and if it does get some damage, it's not crazy money to have one redone.

    • @ianjenkins4641
      @ianjenkins4641 Před měsícem +3

      Don’t get me wrong they look great. But I can’t be dealing with refurbishing wheels every years.
      Stone chips.
      Then bolt holes and where the centre cap sits. Common areas to wear through the clear coat.
      Then you can only cut them maybe two or three times before you don’t have enough material left.

    • @mc4130
      @mc4130 Před měsícem +1

      Unfortunately, I agree. Diamond cut are a pain, and can only be done a couple of times. They look really good, though!

      @pauljames3514 Před měsícem +1

    Nice choice! I was glad to hear the demand for black wheels is going down. My Arteon came with whatever wheel VW painted gray and while not as bad as black, I'd still have preferred something with a machined face.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem

      Arteon is interesting as it's a big car with small wheels so needs wheels to look as big as possible so I get your point. I'd love to put some aftermarket ones on an Arteon R to make the most of its graceful body

    Those wheels look fantastic Andrew. Great job by Prestige Wheel Centre.... Quick question on another note. How do you manage the insurance on your 'small fleet' of cars without it costing you a fortune? I take you must use a multi-car policy? Thanks

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem +2

      Thanks Gordon. There is an easy answer about insurance, for 24 years I've had a Motor Trade policy and because I still do trade cars I can use it to cover these 'social cars', 2 points worth making, don't even think of doing that if you don't trade cars as they will find out and not pay for claims, also you only get paid out at trade value which can mean a big hit which would be really annoying if it was due to a scumbag theft. The GT4 is different because it's over £50k, it was cheaper to insure privately than to up my trade cover to £80k max per car from £50k. If I bought and sold cars £50k-£80k then it would be fine but for one car it was too much. Admiral came in really cheaply even though all my NCB was tied up in the trade policy so I had none. I'd recommend Admiral multicar though not sure how much they screw loyal customers at renewal yet.

    Silver colour is ALWAYS better for rims on a car! Great to hear it’s coming back in fashion!
    Perhaps we can be so lucky that the matt grey colours on car paint also will disappear.
    Can’t understand how so many people seem to find it appealing to choose it over all other alternatives.

    • @volkswizard
      @volkswizard  Před měsícem

      Total agree about matt paint. Classic fashion victim thing - it's different to the norm but that's because it makes your car look worse. Unfortunately I am seeing it more frequently from the factory right now with Cupra and I think Audi offering it
