In three years, I went from having absolutely no experience in 3D Animation to working at DreamWorks Animation Studios teaching just about all of the 3D software used to make movies! After 2 years there, I left to try freelance / independent content creation on CZcams for awhile, before I head back to Feature Film!
This is my journey- the entire process from when I decided I wanted to be an animator until I eventually get there, and everything along the way that will make it possible.
Whether you're chasing a similar dream, or just interested to see where mine takes me, subscribe to follow along with the incredible journey that it takes to become an animator!
You will not be disappointed.

Which artist tip was YOUR favorite?? And what should we do next with Adobe Character Animator? :)
Sir Wade Neistadt all tips was great and true. For me , Floyd Norman and Tim Ingersoll tips are favorite. But when I saw Michal Makarewicz, I waited advice from him too). So this is very good video for another artists. Thank you for this video!!
I never saw an animator put so much reality in the body language of a character than james baxter. But you gonna be talking about character animator I thing his over all guideline will be enough :) I think he deserves for an interview more than anybody else because you interview so many people and so many talented people but nothing was genuine like James Baxter :')
Coty hands down but really they were all really great tips
Thank you for the Video! Each and every tip was Great,James Baxter and Floyed Norman Tips are my favourite. Also Jp sens Tip "Hardwork Beats Talent,When Talent fails to work Hard".
James Baxter! But everyone else gave a good advice too :)
"Hard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard" I love this quote
How can I succeed with no talent and without working? thanks.

Thanks for editing my incoherent rambling down into something halfway decent!
Haha you had so much more good stuff I unfortunately had to cut for time! Want me to send you any of it? :D
@@SirWade Ha nah, no worries, your edited version is perfect. We'll just have to get more sushi shots next time.

I started following Sir Wade since his experience video in Animation Mentor, and because of his excellent collection of tips and advices I've got a successful admission in Ringling College of Arts. Can't wait to see what's next for my Animation career. Thanks a ton! 🙈
Congrats!! That's awesome! I can't wait to find out too :D
This is incredible! I liked Pierre Perifel and Shawn Kelly's tips the most. I think everyone rushes to be a Dreamworks or Pixar animator but there is so much more out there in the world to explore. And by failing on animation shots , it helps you improve so much and to eventually reach that high end level or goal that you want to reach.
Great Video Wade. I hope to be at CTN next year as I'm moving to Canada from the UK soon so i'll be a bit closer :)
From time to time I would always find myself going back to this video for my source of encouragement. Lately, I have been feeling rather discouraged about whether or not I should still continue to pursue animation as a career. Had some bad experience of people telling me I can't animate. But I really dont want that to stop me. Thank you Sir Wade for posting this!
3:47 Carlos Baena: Always ask yourself why
Background: I don't know why
P.S.: I'm Spanish and I didn't know he was a co-founder of Animation Mentor. So inspiring!
All of this still relevant today.
Thank you so much!
OH MY GOD WHY DID YOU UPLOAD IT JUST AS I WAS ABOUT TO SLEEP. If i watch it now or not, either way i wont be able to sleep tonight ;-;
IF WISH I COULD BE THERE ONCE IN MY LIFE :'( AMAZING PEOPLE THANKYOU SIR WADE :)
All these are pretty helpful tips thanks bud
Coty Reinhart seemed to be fooling around, but his advise made the most sense. like, that is something that relates to me a lot. He just save me that stress of spending too much time on the Graph Editor.
Thank you so much for this video!! As an aspiring artist, their tips inspire me to move forward and never give up on my dream of becoming an animator :).
Man, i must to say, this video was the best tips for everyone, for those people like me that we can't go for this kind amazing events, it's was awesome, thanks for sharing us the animator's world, thanks for be generous, the universe it'll back to you all that stuff that you give. Believe me. thanks for taking your time, editting, and that's all kind things envolved it that it's not easy to do, it means compassion to the humanity. first you are good people and of course good animator. Well Sr. i hope to meet you some day. thanks again.
I saw you had a video up I literally ran to get a bowl of cheerios (No Milk) and ate it like if it was pop corn watching this video lol XD but seriously I really wished I could have gone this video is awesome and so many animators I want to meet especially Coty I swear he's awesome !! and Baxter was there too!!!!!!!!! aaaaaaaaaahhhhhh I need to go Next year and show them everything I got!!! I'm so determined and inspired to make more after watching this vid Thanks so much for this video Wade!!!!!
Hopefully I'll see you there next year!! :)
Thank you for taking your time and thinking about making an inspiring video for your followers! I found it so useful! ...would be looking forward to the interviews with individual artists on your channel. More power to you, Sir :)
WOW Thanks for this video!
So many legends, so much value. Shawn Kelly's positive attitude always motivates me. :D
Me too! He's the most positive guy ever!
There is no such thing more incredible :') than watching James Baxter in this video, he is an Animator who worked on Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron we can learn a lot from him by simply watching the spirit animation but it will be more like a dream come true when you seek his character animation tips because in this regard no one can be compared to him.
as a muslim I worship only my God, RIGHT!!! and I no need to consider your crippled advice to look up 9 old men because the thing I was looking for I found in James Baxter. One more thing to keep in mind is that animations is also about weight shifting, balancing, body language and squash and stretch.
@Keep Rocking! I assure you that they must've squashed the stretched. Maybe not in a rubbery, elastic way, but a mechanical "up and down" for sure, which is squash and stretch.
Awesome video! Thank you so so much. I'm gonna watch it three times in a row haha
Thank you for this inspirational video, I'm got a lot of cheerful mood to push my study work at AnimSchool till the end of term!
Thanks a lot Wade!

Thank you for this video. We are sri lankan students in animation field. We have no chance to talk with that people. And we have not good instructors to guid our path. Only we can work hard and inspire our selves with like this videos. Thank you so much.

Great video Wade. Great tips and seeing Floyd Norman in there gave me goosebumps. As a black person in animation, he is my HERO!!! I've just started an animation channel myself, would love for you to pass by and give feedback if you have a spare second.
@Keep Rocking! Keep Rocking...Keep Rocking!!! :) So true!
@Keep Rocking! 9 months late, but it's not the skin. It's finding someone relatable. It's culture and finding someone who looks like you be successful.
@Keep Rocking! "by your reasoning everyone that looks like Bill Gates should be a billionaire"
You must be talking to someone else because that's not my reasoning at all lol.
It's almost like seeing family make it when you see someone that looks like you really accomplish something. Maybe they don't have the same culture, but the likelihood of finding a similar background is much much higher than what's the regular.
@Keep Rocking! you too.
Awesome tips, very helpful for me, and for character animator make something for beginner, like how to get started in software...
I hope someday I get CTN Fairy's blessing
thanks wade
Love from India 😉
wowoowowowo it helps so much~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~thankyou
Thank you for sharing this video Wade ! It was great meeting you in person at CTN ! @sylvestermasseyanimation on Instagram (in case you don't remember me) lol
Hey Sir Wade, thanks for the great interviews. You know when Cory Reinhart said to have your blocking at least on 4s, that mean your blocking poses are held for 4frames right? Was not too sure if thats what he meant. Thanks again for the video, some killer tips there. :-)
I'm coming from Blender to try out Maya and I found that blender is a whole lot easer to use to do anything I just put renderman addon in blender and it's amazing so why do I need Maya can i just use Blender to use in dreamworks and pixars if i work there

I want to work for Pixar
Im to old to start and get into animation
you're never to old to get into animation you just got to start and do it
@@NoeliaEncarnacion To make a living out of it I mean. Never to old to learn agree
@@aleph-tav I still like to defer I met tons of people how are in their 50's or 60's starting their career in animation because They found that this is what they wanted to do (not saying that you are that old because I don't know your age) but if you feel deep down that this is your passion age shouldn't hold you back. learn, fail, just try it and see where it takes you. There is no age restriction to being an animator there's no rule that says I have to be the age between 20-30 to be in this industry. Just do it!!!
@@NoeliaEncarnacion Thanks mate! - Just enrolled at Animation Mentor.
