Thank you. You explained that very well. I had purchased a modified wave and didn't know for sure if it would do what I wanted to run most of the things in the R. V it looks like it will thank you once again.

it depends on what you want to do. You can operate a pure resistance heater or incandescent light bulb with DC or any type of AC.
Devices that have no phase correction but start with a bridge rectifier and DC capacitor also take everything.
These are mainly switching power supplies and LEDs with a switching power supply in front of them. LED stripes
Mains LEDs with these ohmic ICs and bridge rectifiers shouldn't be a problem.
Mains LEDs with a capacitor power supply should only be connected to “pure sine”.
Large PC power supplies can cause problems with pulsed voltage due to attempts at phase correction. TVs too.
These must be connected to pure sine.
Heavy iron transformers should only be connected to “pure sine”. with "modified Sine" they should only be operated with reduced load.
You can certainly say the same about electric motors.

Thanks for the explanation. So is it possible to get a "real" pure sine wave inverter that gives an output like the mains electricity?

I can't seem to find a clear answer to my question, "Is it safe to power a guitar amp with a modified sine wave inverter?". One answer I received on Amazon was, "You should be fine, most electronics (amps) convert the AC 120 to DC (low voltage) for control power and amplification, the only thing I’d worry about is power spikes." Someone else that claims to be knowledgable on this subject stated that amps should not be powered by modified sine wave inverters.

Many devices that have a clock or timer rely on the input frequency (60Hz in the US) as a time reference. For these you absolutely need pure sine or the time will be off (2-3-4 times faster)

My old xantrex freedom 2500 ran a 1500watt space heater with an amazing 20% increase in efficiency compared to my new victron 3k multiplus. Both were 12v to 120v. I'm considering keeping it for simple loads. The xantrex claims it's modified wave is also filtered. Is it safe to run an induction cooktop or a ninja air fryer? As those appliances have microchips in them I'm not sure. And what about an air compressor? Just a big motor? Any advice would help

Aren't Osiliscopes there to measure things like voltages and signwaves wether it be a more digitaly oreinted saw tooth looking signwave or an analog looking curve type signwave? doesn't anyone use the term analog anymore? Wouldn't it be better to try and find a way to convert to 400 cycles instead of the usual 60 cycles? I have an inverter that I bought from the military that is 400 cycles and it has banks on it that convert to 60 cycles as well so you can run anything with it but that is what the military is doing, they are running thier computers at 400 cycles so it is much smoother ....

Retail always gets the shit end of the military. It will always be like this, unfortunately; and is a by product of the business models we have today. We promote competition and secrecy for profit.

Thank you for this review, it was very informative.
I'm from South Africa and we experiencing severe load shedding, for this reason I want to invest in buying a inverter to power my home office as I work from home. A modified sine wave inverter does fit my budget, I know you mentioned it is safe to power your laptop with it but I would like to know is it safe to power my desktop PC as well. I would like to know that before I pull the trigger to purchase it.

I bought a pure sine wave inverter cum ups just one week ago and have tested with various devices. And no problem so far. I've used laptop without battery (using outlet current through adapter) which I think is almost same as desktop pc but only at lower outtage, router, onu etc. Everything is running just like mains current.

Can we use pure sine wave power inverter (12v or some other type battery inverter) to fool a 30kw on grid inverter by connecting that 12v battery inverter on a grid connection inlet. Will it work. I am assuming that i have converted 1 phase 12v inverter to 3 phase current. If that phase thing is taken care of then will it work please let me know.

I don’t like the graphic representation of ‘pure sine wave’. It seems to be a multitude of impulsions, and I don’t think it is what you get out of a good pure sine wave inverter.
