I'm not sure if this is entirely accurate. 🤔 I married into a Somali family and there's a huge emphasis in the community to have daughters that pursue education and advance in their careers to avoid dependence on their husband. Family values are huge in the Somali culture, but strong women have almost always been celebrated as well. The Civil War definitely hindered women from entering the workforce, but that simply reflects a biological reality that it's comparatively less dangerous for a man to make a living in the midst of war than it is for a woman.

I studied with somali students, in our university(in our country) and had a friend. By their attitudes, I never saw the men treating women any less. They respected the somali girls and girls in general. And my friend and other somali girls were pretty confident and their mothers were also quite confident and self made women. By what I observed, It didn't seem like the women were oppressed, or men were more dominant. Infact my friend often laughed about how much her dad is often so scared of her mom getting upset, although her mom is a nice person. They seemed like normal and good people.

Many Somalian women want to be at home with their kids and they don't want to be part of the rat race. Yes Islam allows women to go to work but it also recommends women to be at home because it's better for them. My mum for example is a housewife and she's the opposite of how the west describes housewives. Shes loving life and isn't chained to the kitchen as the west makes it out to be. She spends time with her kids and grandkids and has more time for herself. If she wants to work she can but she doesn't want to because her place in her view is being at home. And there is nothing wrong with that. Not everyone has to be obey the wests way of life.

It's just as important as working outside the home. It allows for kids to be with their mum for more time than if the mother was working and this allows a mother to take care of her kids and make them feel loved. And when the kids are gone, she can spend time for herself and do other things like clean the house. The west makes things that are fine and good like being a housewife, horrible and backwards. Do you why Somali women are strong? Is just because of the harsh environment they grow up in not only they good at business but they take part of battles and fight side by side with their men. Somali women are the backbone of the country may God Bless and protect them.

Many Somalian women want to be at home with their kids and they don't want to be part of the rat race. Yes Islam allows women to go to work but it also recommends women to be at home because it's better for them. My mum for example is a housewife and she's the opposite of how the west describes housewives. Shes loving life and isn't chained to the kitchen as the west makes it out to be. She spends time with her kids and grandkids and has more time for herself. If she wants to work she can but she doesn't want to because her place in her view is being at home. And there is nothing wrong with that. Not everyone has to be obey the wests way of life.
There also is the possibility that working women are not treated equally or paid equal.

It's just as important as working outside the home. It allows for kids to be with their mum for more time than if the mother was working and this allows a mother to take care of her kids and make them feel loved. And when the kids are gone, she can spend time for herself and do other things like clean the house. The west makes things that are fine and good like being a housewife, horrible and backwards. But makes things like alcohol and cheating okay. Quite confusing honestly 😂
