No, the joke is referring to the Akira Kurosawa film, which I don't think is at all related.
In Rashomon, every character has a different memory of events, hence "that's not how I remember it."
@@airborne_arachnid Both actually. Rashomon the movie was a loose adaptation of "In a Grove" also by Akutagawa but borrowed bits and the title from Rashomon the short story.

Rashomon is a film told from three different perspectives where the idea behind what are memories and truth are central themes
Rashomon is a movie about a serious crime being remembered differently by several witness characters when interviewed. Like that Fresh Prince of Bel-Air episode where Carlton and Will take Uncle Phil to court over a pool party where Carlton and Will remember it as a wholesome event and Phil being an evil brute where as Phil remembers it as him being a victim of the violent Carlton and Will having a wild stag fest, with the actual truth being in between.

Was there a main reason Homer felt disappointed just asking
Earlier on in the episode, they went to the airport and waited for no-shows so they could get their tickets at a very discounted price (albeit they didn't know WHERE exactly they were going as they were banking on random no-shows.) Homer was hoping for Kingston, Jamaica ("I and I been in Babylon too long.")
Long story short, they stole the last minute tickets to Japan from the Flanders family, but Homer was hoping to go Jamaica. I could have added that earlier part, but I felt the Rashomon joke would have been diluted a bit if I did

Simpson first episode started in December 1989 an it's been on the air for thirty years (2019) It's funny also how all the first seasons are said to be the best happened in the 90's before the PC culture began, then 00's everything change but then, 10's PC babies crying over the bigotry of Apu
