- Elisabeth Moss has spoken up about a subject on which she normally keeps quiet: her religion. On Tuesday, the “Handmaid’s Tale” star addressed a fan’s question about Scientology via her Instagram account. One Instagram userposed an interesting question comparing Scientology to the dictatorship in Handmaid's Tale. Moss offered the following response: “That’s actually not true at all about Scientology. Religious freedom and tolerance and understanding the truth and equal rights for every race, religion and creed are extremely important to me."

How ironic! She plays a character that suffers in an abusive cult system and is being owned by one at the same time.
@Brandon C as the saying goes ignorance is bliss. Niavety however isn't.
Method acting
I hope that her "church" doesn't abuse her as some do. As long as they don't her her or anyone else, she can be whoever she wants
thats why she is so "yeah i had to do with scientology and it helped me yeah yeah but noooo i dont deal with them anymore". she needs to serve both her masters, the cult and the SJW hollywood machine. thats why she is always so nice and pleasant without being too loud about anything. besides whatever way, if she spoke too much about the cult, theyd ruin her career anyhow. so.
It's hilarious because the first time watching MadMen i kept having this deep, utterly disgusting feeling everytime Peggy was on screen.. I could literally tell something was extremely off about who she was IRL. Further watching the show and I almost ALWAYS have to skip her scenes because something clicked. She's an actress. Her face is completely fake. What she says in interviews is all brainwashing. She is literally involved with such horrible people that seeing her on screen before knowing she was a scientologist gave me a very, very, very distinct signal that she is up to no good and probably giving personal favors to the directors and producers. She probably has been with thousands and thousands of men.
It is so disappointing that she is caught up in that abusive cult. I hope she can get out when she needs to.
You didn't hear anything what was said, did you? "Religious freedom and tolerance and understanding the truth and equal rights for every race, religion and creed are extremely important to me." Attend to the words religious freedom and tolerance.
Some people don't understand what "Religious freedom" means.
It just means that the government cannot discriminate against people for their beliefs, nor can they pass laws which favor one sect over another. This is wise since religious ideas aren't generally based on objective facts (if they were, they would be 'facts', not 'beliefs'), and as such, there is no way for the state to choose between these competing beliefs in an objective way. This why religious freedom provisions were enacted in the first place -- to keep the ruling sect from forcing their unsubstantiated beliefs on others.
But none of this means that religious ideas should be protected from criticism in the public sphere. Quite the opposite, in fact. What you are espousing is actually akin to the old blasphemy laws -- an attempt to protect objectively false beliefs from any sort of criticism. Objectively false beliefs don't stand up very well to scrutiny and require this sort of protection from criticism in order to survive.
This is why (for example) it is OK to tell a creationist that his belief that the world in 10,000 years old is wrong (because objectively, it is), but it is NOT ok to deny a creationist employment because they are creationists (because that would be discrimination). You seem to be conflating these two things, but they are entirely different. The 1st is criticism of an idea (precisely the sort of speech that is protected by the 1s amendment), whereas the 2nd is just religious discrimination against a person (Which in the US, violates the Civil Rights Act of 1964).
Do you see the difference?
$$$$$cientology is extremely important to her
It must be her unconscious mind leading her to take on a role in which a woman frees herself from a cult
Well watch when she gets out 10 years from now. She'll get a new TV series out of it just like that other actress
It’s important to keep in mind that Elisabeth was born into Scientology she didn’t convert or choose it. She was raised with it & being famous doesn’t mean she wouldn’t still be declared an SP & potentially lose her family. It’s sad that a woman who’s such a gifted actress would turn a blind eye to church abuse & fraud (that’s putting it lightly) but we have to keep in mind that she may simply be “physically in, mentally out” in other words only staying to maintain her family ties. At least she’s not one of these celebs like Tom, Kirstie or John who raves about it. It seems like the younger the celeb, the less they talk about Scientology. It’s a dying belief system & Organization anyways that’s being run into the ground. Hopefully she’ll get out of it one day sooner rather than later. 😉
Well said
IKRR
Ya! Came here to comment this exactly, and I agree with you. It’s well known what Scientology leaders say and do to members who publicly denounce them. People either don’t know or forget she was RAISED in it. I think it’s easy to say what we would do in that situation, I know what I’d *like to think* I’d do. She’s also hinted at disagreeing with many of their stances and she chooses her words very carefully. Tbh the way she’s been able to navigate both worlds is incredibly smart.
@@Whole-Milk Exactly. Leah Remini for example is the exception, not the rule. She left and was lucky to keep her husband (who could take or leave Scientology), her daughter (who she never indoctrinated), her mother, stepfather, sister & brother-in-law. Her mom & stepdad lost their whole circle of friends. Her brother-in-law’s whole family disconnected from him because he refused to divorce his wife (who refused to disconnect from her sister). Leah still lost all of her Scientology friends (the majority of her friends). One of the saddest things I’ve heard was an interview with Leah’s mom (who I believe is in her 70’s) who said in an interview (in near tears), “I still dream about my friends. I’ll wake up & want to call them but then I remember that if I did, they wouldn’t pick up the phone. I miss them.” 💔 In Leah’s book she comments about how at her 40th birthday party she had all her friends write her a letter (just letters talking about their friendship etc) & she realized later on that all 35 friends who wrote her letters had disconnected from her. Heartbreaking. I can’t recommend her book enough. I especially love the audio version read by her, “Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood & Scientology”. It’s one of those good books that can make you laugh & cry. *So good!*
She wasn’t born into it 😆
Some day she will see what is hidden
I will tell you right away all that is hidden: czcams.com/video/WbQNzLQgtdg/video.html
Kevin Barry she already did the problem is she's not talkin if she ever spoke out publicly she too would not be successful like Leah she will be watched by everyone Scientology has the power that have you probe if she was at the handmaidens tale set a retired police officer will be watching her in our car and follow her from the set to the house just like Leah she was making a movie in Brooklyn 2 days ago and a retired police officer was following her
Kevin Barry Elisabeth Moss knows was hidden the fact that she's not talkin she knows about the documentary just like Tom Cruise and John Travolta if Elisabeth Moss ever came out publicly like Leah she too would be probed and Scientology would pay a retired police officer or anyone to follow her her career would be finished
Oh the irony… But the cult is abusive and there is no excuse of her defending it.
Well, that's ruined THT for me now... thanks.
Don't be that sensitive this actually makes it more intriguing from a psychological standpoint and as someone who loves studying human psychology
These celebrity followers having the luxury to see their "church" however they like because they get the platinum treatment... spare me your 'insight'.
This makes me so sad as a fan of hers. I hope she has the opportunity to open her eyes one day
i r o n y
moss knows a lot and she not telling if she did her career would be like Kirstie Alley
I bet you do now a lot here is more czcams.com/video/WbQNzLQgtdg/video.html
of course she knows the fucked stuff they do as its normal to her. satanic ritual abuse
Poor, poor deluded woman!
This comment still doesn't say she said she's a scientologist..I agree with many different religious views & beliefs... yet I'm not religious, nor do I belong to any church or religion.
That sounds like a very generic response. That answer actually avoids the question. Smh
😂
Aliens? Ok
I thought she'd converted to Judaism.,
I will NEVER watch Moss again!!! She's off making a new series while Handmaid fans are left waiting for Handmaid final season. Moss can take her career and her cult and move to Mars! PUKE.
Too bad she was born into it
She's one of the reasons why I'm not going to see the Invisible Man remake!
Wally Gator if you don’t want to see it then don’t bother seeing it, don’t bother at all.
It is Not a religion lol
I stopped watching the show.. can't take the hypocrisy and utter ignorance.
Odd looking
Disappointed
