When Stevie says he can't hit a high note, you know the artist he's covering is gifted. I think Stevie has one of the best voices for hitting high notes without falsetto I've ever heard. But Minnie had that whistle register.
He truly had a special place in his heart for her and it shined through this song. He is a forever gifted musician who knows how to find symbolic ways to honor fellow musicians.
Minnie's singing talent was so next level, that oftentimes I am so amazed by it that I tune out the content of her songs. Stevie's tribute highlights just how beautiful the lyrics of this song is. Minnie was an amazing singer with an also amazing producer in Stevie.
