Stevie has the soul and love coming out of his voice. Even here, without any recording studio trick, without any compressor, no eq, no reverb, his performance is thrilling and touching. And of course powerful. Even when he talks his voice is the greatest music ever heard.

By the way, the album with this song on it was released on May 4, 1982. I looked up the exact date, but I also remember listening to it the summer of 1982. My roommates were two friends who let me move in and were kind of snarky to me sometimes, and they complained about me "listening to music in the living room with the lights off". Hey, I was just tired after a hard day's work and wanted to relax! (I had no drug or alcohol problem, never even smoked... sheesh!) One of them especially was a pill, although in the end, she looooved the song "Boogie On Reggae Woman" from that album. So whatever, beeotch! 😂🤣
