  • Director Martin Scorsese and actors Al Pacino and Robert De Niro talk with correspondent Lee Cowan about their first-ever collaboration, "The Irishman," the true story of Frank Sheeran, a hit man for a Philadelphia crime family. The mob epic, which spans decades, was created using cutting-edge technology to "de-age" its cast, as it traces a story of loyalty and corruption, and explores the fate of Teamsters Union president Jimmy Hoffa.

It's not just movies that are suffering from this phenomenon-look at video games: Only Sony can afford to fund creative, high-budget games, like Death Stranding, because they make their profits by selling their console, not only their games. Similarly, Netflix makes its profit by selling subscriptions, not movie tickets.

Same. But Marvel is more like a big pulpy TV series at this point or what they use to do with the weekly radioplays, it's all about what's happening in that moment. It'll be cool to watch them all 10-20 years from now.

I love both Scorsese films and Marvel movies but if I had to choose one, I'd instantly choose Scorsese and not think twice. The most I've watched any Marvel movie would be about four times. I've seen The Godfather at least 25-30 times. This debate about Marvel movies not being cinema is ridiculous. Those movies are meant to be escapism for kids and mass audiences who just want mindless action and fun. They all go by a formula and are as predictable as the day is long. Not to mention they are ruining the movie going experience because superhero movies and franchises are the only movies making massive box office returns. Therefore big studios aren't interested in making artistic, cinematic films and streaming services are going to be producing them from now on. Sad.

So thankful to be alive during these men’s careers. Martin Scorcese is probably the single greatest director to ever live, just based on his track record and length of his career is unmatchable by any other top tier director who never sold out to big corpo and studios and stayed true to the art of film. Al Pacino literally is the greatest gangster portrayer ever while De Niro the same but for mafia/mobsters. But mob movies aside all three men are legends in the industry and so freaking talented and amazing I’m so happy they did this film. A bit long but still an amazing film able to see the evolution of Scorcese whom you could say helped create the image of mobsters as something people want to be like and live like glorifying the mob life as badass, fun, manly, etc. but in Irishman you can clearly see the progression in belief in Scorceses view upon mob life as something that shouldn’t be wanted or glorified and is a life full of difficult decisions and situations. Love how Scorcese flipped the bill as he’s known for Goodfellas and Casino making mobsters seem like BAMF while Irishman grounds itself more to reality showing the true harsh life a mobster lives
