Friedel is one of those low-key icons of the league. Only respect for him for a long and storied career and his absolute skill as a keeper. A true professional committed to the game. Wish we had more like him.

i say this a lot about hockey players, there’s so many who may not have been stars but they stuck around the league for many years and although not great players they were absolutely great professionals

Massively underrated keeper!! Very consistent and never really injured until the final stages of his career…think he still holds the premier league record for most consecutive appearances.
Was unlucky at Liverpool due to non-eu player restrictions and Houllier stuck with David James, then Sander Westerveld after Friedel showed early promise at the club…would’ve probably ended up a legend at the club if they’d stuck with him.
Showed great consistency with Blackburn, Villa and Spurs, reflected by the fact that he was pretty much never dropped until late on in his career at Spurs.
Always surprised me that a bigger club never came back in for him after he’d established himself as a top PL goalkeeper. 👏
Friedel was probably the best keeper Rovers have ever had. Some of the games he had were out of this world. 1 on 1s you always fancied him and more often tban not, he would make the save.

Brad was a top bloke, my dad and grandad did a lot of work for him on his house on merseyside. Brad and his mrs were invited to my christening but couldnt come, but they sent presents and my mum and dad both have those gifts nearly 23 years later. Him and his wife are exceptional humans, heard the same stories from both sides of my family amd my mum and dad no longer get on. 😊
Me my sister and grandad were at arsenal away years ago. His wife was sat next to us and my sister wouldn’t stop talking to her. Half time came and she said am okay to bring her inside and get her something to eat and drink. Obviously was like no as we don’t know you she then said see your goalie I’m his wife. Within 2 minutes a body guard came to her and started to walk her into the box she then said are you sure you don’t want to come.
This guy came to spurs at 41 and was one of the best keepers that season.

He was great at Tottenham aswell signed when he was like 41 and played 2 full seasons and even kept lloris out the team for a good few months his reactions was different level
When I bring this up with some football fans, they don't believe me, I am sure/positive that Friedal kept Loirls (or however you spell his last name) out of the team from December till the end of the season lol

I remember Liverpool signing Friedel from Columbus Crew. I was super stoked about it because we had David James who had been shite for years and probably cost us the league on a few occasions and I figured signing Brad would eventually bring us a title. Didn't happen that way obviously. Met big Brad a few times outside the Melwood training ground and what a gentleman, always stopped to sign autographs and take picture with fans. Glad he went on to have a good career in the end.

I would say Friedel was one of the top five most consistently excellent keepers of the Premier League era. Almost never made an error costing a goal, and was capable of the absolutely miraculous.
Liverpool spent years trying to sign him and when they did he hardly played! One of the best premier keepers ever.

@aaronpanesar Duff predated that era a tad, we had great players, you could lump Warnock, Nelson, Samba, Neill, Dunn, Pedersen, Bentley, Bellemy, McCarthy, Santa Cruz all in as well. But for me Friedel and Tugay are the two that really elevated us to the level where we only missed out to Arsenal in 4th for the last CL spot by 5 points. Back when it really was the 'Big 4' it was some achievement to run them close.

He was such a proper keeper. While he didn’t remain at absolute top tier (I swear Liverpool have a curse with breaking keepers, when you look at the quality they arrive at) he was probably one of the most reliable keepers the premier league saw. There was probably only about 8 that you’d think of.
