- In this episode of Fleet Friday, we take you for a tour of South Metro’s brand new engine that went into service at Station 19 this week. We will also show you Station 19’s type 6 brush engine.
I love the humour about the coffin boxes on the roof...I always thought that's where the probie went until needed to pop-out at a call! LOL! 🤣🤣😎😎
Ikr that’s awesome
I'm a French Firefighter, you're truck's are beautiful! Good luck guys 💪🏻🇫🇷
As a US Navy fire fighter for the past 17 years, I really do appreciate the amount of professionalism and knowledge y'all are showing your local community and subsequently the world . Thank yall!
our local department got a 2019 Pierce rear mount 100ft tower truck $1.2 million.
It was the longest truck our department ever had (it replaced an 80ft ladder from 1995).
They totaled it when they did their first training exercise with it because they hit some power lines with the ladder.
This fireman is very professional and he knows his stuff and they keep their fire truck stocked very well i salute you all and thank you for keeping us protected your buddy ben Brown from Cincinnati ohio
Hey I’m from that area to!
Benjamin Brown ^
Umm that a engine not a truck but I do agree

Awesome job guys, a lot has changed in 40 plus years. The decon back then was a quick rinse off with a hose line. Brush ops were a shovel, rake, pick ax and hoe plus an indian can. Can't say I miss the cold rides on the back step either. The good ol' days. Good luck with the new rig.
There's so much to say but everything these guys do is insane and I can not respect you enough. You guys save countless lives and nobody can thank you enough. Thank you so much for your service
I like the traditions you maintained. My forestry school Dean reminded us frequently, "You can't beat custom, habit, and tradition." I spent a few years on the Angeles NF on a Hotshot Crew and a couple of years as an officer on a Class 3 engine. Rolling stock was primitive. The hotshot "buggy" was a stakeside with home made seats along the sides and tools under the seats. The engines were1950s and early 1960s vintage. Even the small "buildings" at one of stations began life as a wall tents. We carried the same basic tools as you. It just shows the firefighting fundamentals haven't changed. A great book if you can find it is "Fire" by Stewart, dated 1948. It is a story about a large fire in an inaccessable area and the men who fought it.
Another great vlog. Love Brush 19 - beautiful. Wildland was always my thing. The new engine is nice, so easy now how everything is automated or attached to motors.
Always love seeing all the different rigs each fire service has. Being a Volunteer bush fird fighter in NSW, Australia, it was really interesting seeing how you have set up your wildland appliance vs how we set ours up. Many similarities, many differences too!
The Wet down Tradition goes Back to the First Fire departments in Philadelphia. It includes blessings, and first fill of the tank. A long with the moving of equipment and pushing into the station house. Making the pumper ready for it's service.
Blessings???

Knowing the psi of the cutters down to the number is astounding! Huge props to the logo and the meaning behind the logo. Great video all in all
You guys got all the good stuff! Congrats! Not sure how I found this channel but I am impressed.
Wow, those are both beautiful rigs, who'de have thought those accutriments & space up 20 years ago! Times & appartus have changed from when my first spec classes where held, back in the day when we still rode tailboards!! Thanks for the video.
What a great firehouse! These gentlemen seem professional, and fun to work with! Thank you for the great video, SMFR.
You have to love new apparatus for firefighting. A new Engine and a new Brush Truck as well. Excellent review of the vehicles, and the equipment on board along with a description of what these pieces of equipment are for too. Some fire fighters seemed to really enjoy their job, can't hardly keep from smiling while talking about the new rig. These are both very well equipped to handle multiple situations. Great video coverage. Go SMFR.
Loving the mountain in the background! What a view..
Thank You for sharing, love the coloring and tools Holmatro and Pierce GOOD CHOICE
Be safe out there
The first time I have ever stepped foot in apparatus I loved it and wish I could go back to that day like I just sat in the cab and loved it
Your department just spent a whole lot of money wow. Looks great.
@@mm-hw9ku have ever been to one of these "third world countries"
1234U we couldn’t go there cause we’d be taken hostage, mugged, shot, killed, hung, etc by people who, again, hate America and Americans.
@@justanotherfan1662 probably shouldn't talk about a place you've never been.
1234U sure pal. You know a lot more than me because you say that.
@@mm-hw9ku Who else could build a fire engine better than USA, my guess is nobody.
Someone rook the time to pack that hose right! I love it!!! Shows pride. Good work brothers!
I hope those tools don't go missing often. It's tough trying to save people when other people won't hesitate to steal things that you need to do your job.
The rigs are so cool!
Small town volunteer firefighter...we have trucks from the 90s and I thought they were nice. I wish we had this kind of money to spend on new trucks. Great video
Cool video.Thank you for sharing.Nice fire vehicles Be well..Be safe.. Congrats on the new vehicles..
Love the new Engines and Brush
You guys would be amazing if you could pull this off
Do a series of touring the stations and the way things are done there. Starting with station 11 and working your way up. you guys already did station 12 with the day in a life series. Go through every single station, kind of like you did with station 12. Do a tour of the fire station, and the apparatus there. Not necessarily like fleet Friday where you open up all the compartments that would take forever. Explain what they are station pride is, and show us really what’s unique about that station. And if there happens to be a call. Ride with them. Not only it would be great content for the CZcams channel. But it will really show your local citizens what South Metro fire is all about.
I’m glad your community fully funds your department with anything you need. Your not using junk and always fighting to pass this millage or that ordinance to get a new apparatus.
That must be an amazing new truck smell!
Would have been cool to see this on the Pierce channel getting its final inspection then in-serviced on this channel. Nice truck though.
Amazing first video of the year
Fantastic video gentlemen, thank you.
CONGRATS GUYS!!! YOU DERERVE IT
Oh damn! Y’all got a slamagen like the one on Chicago fire with the Haligan combo!
Gotta love Metro!
Gotta love it, right
Smart looking rigs.
But no bumper turret on the brush....somebody was sleeping when they made up the wish list.
Cheers, Stay safe.
Thanks Eric & Connor
Awesome units!
Nice FireFither Truck Love the Amarican Style.....
Comes home from every assignment. Greetings from Germany from the fire brigade Wetter / Hessen.
I would be happy about a patch

yes I will contact you by email I'm looking forward to it
Must be a dream to drive. Very very nice.
Awesome! 🔥
Very through video. All of the fireman are very knowledgeable of the equipment and the art of fire fighting. Any plans on doing a Fleet Friday on one of your tankers?
That is a very cool brush truck
This is awesome I love it
Love the Pierce.
Can you do a fleet Friday on a 2 door medic unit! Also I love the work you guys do I love seeing a SMFR logo pop up in my notifications!!
South Metro Fire Rescue PIO yes!!
That engine rig looks nice.
I heard the PulsePoint notification sound in the intro and I thought it was on my phone lol
Just saw South Metro Fire Budget. They are spending serious money upgrading service. $91 million worth of revenue collected in 2018 to $147 million in 2020 collected. Improved citizen service means you have better change of surviving. Keep up the good job SMFR!!!!
Fire history lesson: Wetting down the wheels was also to get the horse crap off of the steamer's wheels before you put it in the barn. And back in the day, you push the engine in because the horses could not back the engine in. And at 25:40, he meant to say 1.5" and 1" hose, standard on wildland engines.
Great video
Nice video guys!
Pretty area to work. I'm stuck in southern Colorado..
hi, 1.have you got any product to melting the ice on firefighter's helmets or clothes while they are on the extremely cold weather? 2. have you got any prodcut which can eliminate the smoke while on the scene of fire ?
Greetings from Rome, Italy
You don't keep a Knox key in there?
My department is in a small ish town versus Metro and we carry a Knox device on our engines.
And as far as the way the hoses are laid out, I strongly suggest looking into the triple lay. We started using that today on our engine and it's pretty cool, there's no flaking it out and it doesn't look like spaghetti when it's pulled. It's ready to charge as soon as it's off the truck.
Hi courageous Firefighters 🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀💝💝💝💝 best wishes from Germany ,Bremen.
Do you guys carry portable pumps for brush fires? Didn't see one on brush 19
Hey, do you guys have a video on detailing what's in your medical kits? I'm in your hiring process and would love to study up on what you have in your med kits. Just an idea...
With the new 5G wireless network, I saw a commercial about the new innovations. One was a 3D information interface for firefighters so they could see their team members even in total darkness. It also had what appeared to be an information panel in the corner.
Yeeeeeee more trucks!!!
Is the department opening for new hires anytime soon? I’m in a firefighter 1 academy right now. Chasing the dream.
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO if i didn't have a stroke i would apply for a job with your department i done my training and i miss the fire department i use to valeteer for i want to say god bless you all you all do a very good job your buddy ben Brown from Cincinnati ohio
Love your videos, please keep them coming. What’s the price tag on this unit now? $650.000? And the price of the brush truck, $150.000? Thanks.
Do you have something like commander desk/table which is used during fire actions to control firefighters air, time, etc. ? Can you make the film about your technique of this issue in USA ?
Nice job connor
In my area, we cal the water packs Indian Guns. I don’t know why they call them those lol. Carry 4 on our brush truck. We don’t use a booster line BC we don’t run many brush fires. We use 1 inch rubber hose. Total of 600 feet I believe.
If I remember correctly, back in the day the Indian Pack was a brand name. Don't quote me though, that was when I was a rookie. A while ago.
It´s very interesting when you compare American Trucks and European Trucks. The European have so much more stuff in it like a generator, big scene lights, various types of water nozzles or door opening tools in bags,.....
thank goodness on
Can you do an in-depth video of the decon bucket
can you make a video in more detail of how you guys decontaminate your equipment after a fire?
Definitely great apparatus and video. I did have a question on Brush 19... is it a good plan to store the chainsaw chaps in the same compartment with the chainsaw exposing them to the fuel vapors? Keep up the strong work!
It’s a vented cabinet so the fumes are displaced into the air not in the cabinet
Yep we just got a new 2019 pierce truck and u have hersh rescue tools I think we have th same ones
Tyler Elston i saw Holmatro what video were you watching
a lot nearer the look we have over here in the UK now unlike the more open style of other us appliances
Can you guys go more into the sirens of the apparati?
I think it would be cool to do a “what’s in your pocket” video. Difference between personnel or between engine and truck guys
👍
First love south metro
Awesome
It’s like a engine and a rescue truck had a baby
The air dump is the biggest gimmick I've seen on an engine. Makes sense on the frieghtliner and international rescues but id be surprised if anyone uses that dump feature.
All the need now tank to have a baby with the rescue
@@hihfty I would assume the air dump would be helpful for after the fire, when crews are reloading supply lines.
I want to ask where do you keep your airbed for jumpers?
And I am surprised that OSHA allows firefighters to be on top of fire rigs without safety lines. I don't see any way around this unless you have some kind of high wire cable system around the truck, maybe a system that goes up with the push of a button? It's an idea. Either way I am surprised that OSHA doesn't step in and say something. BTW How do you guys get on top of the rig on ice or snow?
SMFR, Can you do a video on a What does a PIO have for a school project.
Eatiblejsegurspace2 RBLX what is the name of the fire truck in your profile pic?

South Metro Fire Rescue PIO Eric I kinda know what y’all do everyday but not really will you email me something more in-depth
Hi. Cool and interesting videos
Could you show in on oft the next fleet friday videos whats in the fire decon box?
What brand of pack is the progressive hose pack?
Any reason your department switched to black roofs on the new engines instead of the white roofs?
How do you clean that coffin cabin ?? i love the concept of the clean cab and was just talking about it with another FF / state instructor and we brought up the idea of the drain and cleaning the coffin cabin after the contaminated gear is removed??
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO That is a great idea using the plastic bags. do they have reusable ones like the true north deon bag, that can be cleaned as well? thank you for responding as it is nice to get ideas for my local departments with this up and coming way to save our lives!
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO that is how life is thank you for the quick answers and help. keep up the amazing videos I enjoy them and cant wait for the next one !!!
one Question is the 1.5 Inch coupling the same like the 1 3/4 Inch coupling ? because he sayed that the 1.5 Inch thread is for 1 3/4 Inch hose. sorry for the queation i'm from Germany i don't no that
The American fire service used to use 1.5” hose with 1.5” thread. The adoption of 1.75” hose still maintained the 1.5” thread, because it was easier/cheaper and the flow rate difference is negligible.
Can we get a fleet Friday of the blizzard response vehicle.
I was gonna ask the same question
@south meteo fir rescue pio dodge rams and chevys are the best brush trucks
Can we get one of all the units from the beginning
Dawson Stansberry no fords are better for small brush trucks
Not the for the breakers
I think internationals are the best for big breakers
What is your hydrant averege pressure?
@19:45 I am glad we are one of the very few FDs around anymore that provide non emergent lockout assistance. Run the plate with dispatch, and as long as the registered owner matches the person on scene, we will unlock a car for anyone (after having you sign a paper saying we are not responsible for any damage that may result, which truly is none, but have that as a protection). We do this as long as the first due engine is not tied up on another call. If it is an emergency lockout (child in the vehicle, pet in the vehicle, or the vehicle is running) we will respond the second or third due if the first due is on a call. Oh we also still will get a cat out of a tree if someone calls for that as well. We are the only FD in the area that does either of those things. In some of the surrounding jurisdictions even the emergent lockouts are handled by the police/sheriff's departments.
Alexis MSP Gaming that isn’t true at all. Most all the surrounding departments do exactly that...
@@UnionPacific18 in my area and in the areas I have traveled to the vast majority of FDs will not do lockouts or cat in tree calls anymore. For every department that does I've seen 10 that do not.
Anyone else here applying from out of state like myself? Can’t wait to take my CPAT
South Metro Fire Rescue PIO Thanks very much
Do a fleet friday on the reserve engine's.
Fleet Friday on your tracked blizzard vehicle?
I'm trying to get on the fire department in my area..i take the written test in two weeks...im really hoping I can make it in
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO thanks
1500 GPM pump and 750 gallons of water held? So you blow through your water in 30 seconds?
Purpose built spec and a beautiful truck! Could you tell me how much this Velocity cost if you are able to share that information?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO It would also be interesting to know what the loadout costs on top of the truck cost. I assume all the gear is purchased new for this truck and the old gear stays with the old truck? Does the former Engine 19 become a reserve now or?
n0oneh3re all the equipment from old E19 gets transferred over, unless anything new is added or replaced. It really depends. The ex E19 could go to reserve/spare status, but it also could go to another firehouse, replacing a older rig, and then that old rig goes away.
Why not option for a Cummins for the 5500, a gas engine in a 5500 grade pickup is a lot on that engine, plus the extent it will be used to as a fire truck
Can you make a video about a ride along with tower 35
How do you get the fire appliance from Appleton WI to Denver CO ?
@@SouthMetroFireRescuePIO Thank you for your reply. I had a late semi retired friend who lived in Milton WI and used to deliver trucks out of Janesville WI. These were generally trucks that had been modified to carry and load house bricks. The last time I visited him before he died he had a truck to deliver to Austin TX and then after delivery he makes his way back to WI by any means usually flying. Depending on where he was he sometimes used Amtrak. He never delivered fire appliances. Keep warm in Denver CO. It's summer here in Sydney Australia and HOT. Got to 114 F the other day. It never snows here. Have a nice day.
My dept just got the same truck
