I have a siames baby cat and she's so adorable! She talks with me all the time, mostly trilling. But she also purl's, especially when I back up to home after work.
I had one, just an old calico, that paired with me to the point that if I had something wrong, she'd come over and look at me with this "what's wrong, daddy? How can I help?" and she'd reach up and put her paw on my cheek. She also had the "silent meow", rarely vocalizing.
Our cat makes a soft eh eh eh sound when he is bringing us food (toy) for us to eat and he does this every day several times a day, it's a sweet sound.
A lot of people don't realize just how intelligent cats are...unconditional love is the biggest...so many things I get all the stuff I've read here-mine do some of those things too. FYI..ALL cats are noisy at times. I had Persians growing up. We use to show them. So, yeah, they're noisy too! I've learned a lot about cats over the years. I can actually communicate with them without saying a word. I've watched their behaviors.Yawning doesn't always mean they're tired--I've learned A LOT of sounds & I use them (I don't know what they all mean, but, I get reactions)...sneezes I do too--eye blinks. My vet told me to keep it up...she said, "Now, if you could only translate to English, we'd really have something!". More than just money, but, we'd be able to help them so much more medically. A LOT sooner than we can now, for sure. CATS ROCK!!!
My cat hisses during play. She chatters when she wants me to pick her up to get a fly on the ceiling. She also "huffs and puffs" by giving a quick exhale during play when being held. Like a really dude kinda thing. Shes an orange tabby that thinks she part human and part cougar.
I'll never forget when my kitty was about 7 months, while jumping from the mattress to the floor, her legs scraped on the wooden foot board. 😬 She turned facing the bed and hissed, plus what sounded like cursing. She gave that bed a talking down!!!😅🤣😂
Sometimes, when for example I'm lying on the bed reading, my Kelly trills when she doesn't know where I am. So I call out and she comes running to me and jumps up for a cuddle
haha the last sentence made my day. I have a 3/4 Russian Blue (1/4 British Short Hair) and he talks the whole day. Never before had a cat talking so much.
Yes I had to laugh as well, I had a Russian blue and she talked all the time as well. She was great, used to come in the car with me, just walk up and hop in like a puppy. If she caught a bird she had a special meow to let me know and would let me take the bird off her ( reluctantly) so I could let it go.
"Long haired cats are usually more quiet" My long haired cat: *Meows when I walk in the room or everytime they see me My short hair cat: *Stares at me when I walk in the room silently*
That's ok. They also mentioned Russian blues as quite cats. My Russian blue talks with me more than any other cat I've met. He's a very vocal little boy!
Mine too. My short-haired is female is quiet but my long-haired male ginger cat meows when he sees me, when he wants food, when he gets food, when he wants to go out, when he wants anything really. Unfortunately, its such a high pitch that it seems to drill a hole in my head first thing in the morning and find it hard to tolerate his sound. I deliberately avoided the talkative breeds for this reason and am thinking of having my morning coffee in the quiet of my bedroom. The vid was interesting but didnt really help me strategize a way to stop his incessant mewing.
I recently moved and "inherited" my Dad's longtime feral cat that had always stayed outside. I made friends with it and turned it into an inside cat in less than a month. But one thing I've noticed is that once the cat became 100% comfortable with me, it basically stopped meowing and replaced that sound with chirping. Now all my cat does is either purr or chirp (and chirping seems to mean that the cat is very, very happy). 🐈
I ones had a kitten that always spoke with two words. I called her Mimi. I often spoke French to her and after every sentence she replied with: "Oui, oui". So cute. I don't know the father, but I think it's genetic.
@Ami Thomas My poor old cat would have senior moments where he'd walk into my parent's room (he KNEW he's not supposed to go in there) and do that calling meow thing. Funny thing is that even at 21, he'd have a squeaky meow. He never had the creaky meow you'd expect from elderly cats.
@Ami Thomas Sadly their dogs are still there. They also now have a baby there. People aggressive dogs that have killed something small before + a baby + careless owners? I'm scared for the baby.
Lots of great information about cat sounds...BUT something people should know...and that is dogs and cats CAN get along. Many do famously. We're just taught that cats and dogs dont get along. So we are put or put ourselves in that frame of mind. To keep one's dog away from a cat in a park. I grew up believing that. Till I watched a few CZcams videos over the last few years. Though, these cat and dogs might mostly have been raised together. Still that shows 2 animal species CAN get along. They aren't born to fear or hate the other.
Anderson: Not so much what we are taught, but what we have observed as the "norm" over time. In most situations cats dont like dogs, they are bigger and frightening. Once they are forced to live together, if the dog shows the cat he isnt going to eat him, and the dog is trustworthy, (in the cats perception) its a beautiful thing when they do bond and become best friends. The younger the animals are when introduced, the better it seems to go. It can happen with Many species who are natural enemies. Its merely survival instincts of the smaller species to RUN........
I have had many cats in my life (family cat or my own) and have heard the many sounds of purring (high pitch, low pitch, etc), but the cat I have now has sounds during purring that are unlike any cat from before. It is kool and sounds so awesome! Makes me happy to hear these other purr like sounds along with his normal purring sound. It's kind of like a symphony. How does he do these different sounds all at once? And why in all my years around so many cats is he the only one I heard this from?
got a 12-14 week old kitten, when it purrs, it makes me think of a gasoline engine with a burned valve, as there is a bit of a "chirp" in the purring. first time i had on that sounds like it needs a valve job.
My Himalyan cat used to sing bariton in the morning, knowing that it was breackfast time and he also "skipped",the way kids do when they run and are happy! 🐹
My cat talked... with a series of short chirps, loud purrs and meows with distinct consonants. She was definitely imitating human speech, with "sentences" that could last 10 seconds.
Okay I have two Russian blues they were and are the loudest cats I’ve ever had. They talk all the time to great me, to tell me to change there water, for more food, to tell me to clean there box. Lol all of the ones I’ve had have been loud af. Amazing cats though! There true little friends!
I just got my first kitten a few days ago and this morning was chirping and running and jumping around while playing around. I was curious what the chirping meant and im happy to know now that she just was having a good time playing. :D
I love when my 2 month old kitty talks to me. I’ll say hello and he meows back at me. When he comes up to snuggle I’ll talk to him just like I do my kids.
I knew all of these, from years of being owned by cats and interacting with felines, except yowling. I have never been able to figure out what cats are trying to convey with that. I always called it, "singing you the song of my people at 3AM"...
My late mother in law used to say two cats yowling at each other in a kind of stand off were really saying, "Go home!" Noooo, YOU go home!" "Go home NOWWWW!" Noooo, YOU go home!" LOL
I like how my cat doesn't dare to hiss at all my family members, she just make these low frequency sounds to warn me when she needs space. She's also very territorial when other cats come to my window. She hates all cats that come on our territory
Cats shape their language around you. Whatever sounds they make is specific to you and when you respond to their needs (my cat makes a very special meow when she's out of food and when I feed her after she makes that meow she remembers to use that meow for the next time she's hungry)
My torbie only trills/chirps at now. In the off chance she does does meow, it is so high pitched you can barely hear it. However, her purrs are so loud you can hear them in the next room 😂 Her "sister" is a long haired mini panther, who loves to talk and announce that she's caught one of my dirty socks. The sound is almost like a yowling/crying? But she stops when I've acknowledged her catch.
My cat has specific meows. Accompanied by a hard stare in my direction there's the one for 'my food dish is empty - please come into the kitchen and fill it'. There's the 'my litter tray needs cleaning NOW'. And there's one very very distinctive meow that means 'I don't feel so good and I'm about to throw up!'
When my cat heard the trilling sound, he immediately woke up from sleeping and looked for his mother. He's a month old and he's away from his home. He's so precious I should protect him Now he's purring, relaxing
My cat is a big cat, we're not sure what breed, but we assume hes mixed with Maine coon because of his size and hair length. He doesn't meow unless we're going to the vet, and the noises he makes are almost always trilling. He was also taken from his mother a bit early, so that probably has something to do with it, as well as his(assumed) breed, as bigger cats are less vocal I believe
My tabby cat lily will meow at me and if I don’t tend to her quick enough she’ll bite at my calf. It’s so cute so I’ve learned to tend to her quickly lol
I go crazy with constant meowing. I am taking him while my daughter travels. Is this meowing a lot good or bad. When I feel it’s bad how do I react? If I ignore it becomes louder. Can I use NO?
I inexplicably developed a strong bond between me and my female cat. It happened when she panicked when moving in the car, as she panted with flattened ears, and I made numerous attempts to calm her down by petting her. Before we moved, she was afraid of me and often hid, but she has been obsessed with me after we moved. She has a hard time leaving me alone now. Recently, she has become increasingly enamored with me, expressing stress whenever I am absent for an extended period of time. For example, if I do not engage with her at least twice a day for at least ten minutes, she will place her paw under the door and shake it while caterwauling loudly. Whenever I enter my home or step out of my bedroom, she will focus on me and begin making trilling, meowing, and purring sounds, and I almost always return the message with the same sound. When I produce identical sounds, she always gets happy, and she will often jump up to the highest point in my home to meet me at my level and rub her face against my hands when demanding pets. Even when not petting her, she audibly purrs, and I have never seen her so relaxed when she lays next to me. I think the most endearing part is how much she trusts me; she is not afraid to show her stomach to me, an extremely vulnerable area of a cat's body, quite frequently. Having such a close friendship with a cat gives you the joy you rarely experience with anything else. It just makes your day. I hope you all have equally healthy relationships with your feline friends! God bless!
There are many other sounds not covered in this video, such as a low groan meow that some cats use when they want their human but they don't know if anyone is home. My cat Simba does this when she thinks she's alone or if she isn't sure where everybody suddenly dissapeared to (if we all go upstairs without her realising, for example). There's also a literal, genuine ear-piercing scream (that sounds exactly like a child screaming) that cats do if they're in serious immediate pain. The scream is horrible and if you hear it then your cat is potentially in serious danger. I only know of this because my late cat Oscar once trapped his tail in the little gap where the door meets the wall (where the hinge is) and the door blew closed from a gust of wind and his tail was all the way through the gap. It sounded painful and his tail was a little bent for a while but the vets said he would recover fine and he did. There are many more, but this video is very informative for people who aren't aware of what their cats are trying to tell them. In time you'll soon learn what each call is for and you'll be able to know what your cat wants before you get to them! This does take a lot of time to learn though, so always double check first :)
In my experience, my noisiest cats were long-haired. LOL. Part Maine Coon and Norwegian, one of each, and they'd have conversations with me. They were soooo talkative. My short-hairs have all been quieter, which is what makes the breed recommendations at the end of this video hilarious to me. Haha.
My short haired calico cat is so loud all the time, people complain she is too loud but she LOVES attention and knows she can be vocal. It’s so cute and I encourage that behavior by spoiling her which is not good 🤣
"Saving one animal won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal." ❤️🐶🦊❤️ Saw a documentary claiming cats only communicate to people. Clearly they never seen two cats screaming at each other before fight.
My cat seems to really enjoy when I chase her around and she puffs up her tail. I think there is easily room in the pantheon of cat emotions for play chasing and similar once they feel safe in their environment. She will leap out of the dark as if she were attacking me but without claws. I feel like this type of back and forth play is good for her. So saying they're stressed every time they display that type of defensive mechanism is probably true for some or even most cats but not all.
The stock video footage of the lady hugging her cat is adorable! also my male cat when we first got him and his sister, used to trill in the hallway when he was lost and wanted his sister to find him :)
We adopted a stray that looked like a picturesque Russian Blue, and she had a distinctive call. When she wanted to attract our attention, she would do a short, fast "meow-meow!", sometimes repeatedly.
Got two tabbies in '19, brother and sister, who were ferals nabbed by animal control at around 6-8 weeks old, per the vet they took them to. I got them about four weeks later, took them over a week before they came out of hiding and hang out with me. They're my buddies now, but they DO NOT like ANYONE else. They are extremely quiet, not sure if that's because they were ferals. I've only heard the female meow twice in the two years I've had them, first time when I took her to the vet (she wasn't impressed at all being in the pet carrier), and when I accidentally locked her in a bedroom as I was unaware she was in there. Her brother is a bit more talkative, but not by much. Quiet, quiet cats
The last statements about which cats are more or less noisy is a generalization, I've seen very chatty cats of all hair types myself. I have a a half main coon who is very talkative, and has a very unique voice. Our neighbors also have a fluffy cat that talks all the time, I actually call him Chatterbox because i'm not sure what his actual name is. So, if you really need a quieter cat, best to make sure you can hang out with your prospective new pet for a while and see if that cat is going to be a good fit.
I swear our cat has words just like we do lol. She has a certain meow when we ask her if she "wants food", or in general "wants (blank)". When we say "get it", her eyes go huge and she'll hunker down and do that chirping noise cats do at birds. "Tuna?" She won't shut up xD Her least favorite words that we say are "no", "get in the room", "go", she will not hesitate to tell us how displeased she is at hearing those words lol.
Well our cat has a interesting way to communicate with us @_@ Meowing while the left Paw is up: Hungry Meowing while the right Paw is up: Bored / wants to play Just Meowing and following around: feels like it wants to chatting with you (My sister and I are mostly Meowing in a similar tone back to her [our Cat is Female] and well it feels like its a conversation with our cat) And when she's searching one of us, she does this like very deep and loud meowing until she finds one of us (happens mostly around 2 - 3 am and mostly she just wants to sleep in the same room)

Love when Lucie cat runs by me going to another room. The always trills “Hello!” to me😽
I have a siames baby cat and she's so adorable! She talks with me all the time, mostly trilling. But she also purl's, especially when I back up to home after work.
When a cat purrs on a human, they are trying to beal you too.
I had one, just an old calico, that paired with me to the point that if I had something wrong, she'd come over and look at me with this "what's wrong, daddy? How can I help?" and she'd reach up and put her paw on my cheek. She also had the "silent meow", rarely vocalizing.
I love that little "mrrrp" which I guess is trilling. So cute when my kitty does that.
That explains it! I get screamed at every time I go in the kitchen. I understand the urgency. That's where the treats are! haha
One of my cats starts caterwauling when he's getting ready to throw up.
Mine does the same. I know immediately to gently put her on the floor and pet her. She'll get that hairball up bit I'd rather it not be in my bed.
That sound should be put in an alarm clock. Nothing gets you out of bed faster.
@@boondixie I'm 100% with you on that! It's no fun have cat vomit on your bed!
Our cat makes a soft eh eh eh sound when he is bringing us food (toy) for us to eat and he does this every day several times a day, it's a sweet sound.
MINE TOO
A lot of people don't realize just how intelligent cats are...unconditional love is the biggest...so many things
I get all the stuff I've read here-mine do some of those things too.
Proves my "kitty" is nuts
My cat hisses during play. She chatters when she wants me to pick her up to get a fly on the ceiling. She also "huffs and puffs" by giving a quick exhale during play when being held. Like a really dude kinda thing. Shes an orange tabby that thinks she part human and part cougar.
My kitty hisses when playing to, lol.
awwwwwww my kitty had black spots all over him and a little black "mask"
I don't think hissing always has something to do with fear. I watched my cat get angry with the toy that she dropped then hissed at it.
Was thinking the same.
More often it’s an „back of and leave me alone or I rip your face off with my claws“
🤣🤣
That's hilarious!!
Hissing is more like, “ I’m getting really pissed”
"Long haired cats are usually more quiet"
My long haired cat: *Meows when I walk in the room or everytime they see me
My short hair cat: *Stares at me when I walk in the room silently*
Well they’re probably just generally speaking. I have a long-haired tortoise shell snowshoe white and she talks all the time
I laughed hard at this one. My long-haired cat meowing is quite a bit maddening 😹
My cat can say "meringue" and "Peru". Also, if you want a tomcat to be able to say his own name, I recommend calling him "Raoul".
What does it mean when your cat does the barely audible squeak/meow? My late elderly cat would do this sometimes while hanging out with me.
She is probably saying something more, but because our hearing is very limited, we cannot hear all of it.
@Ami Thomas He seemed to do it though out of an affectionate manner though.
@Ami Thomas Yes. On June 12th, my cat was unfortunately killed by two neighbor's pitbulls that had no business getting into our front yard.
0:27 chattering
1:08 purring
2:30 caterwauling
3:02 hissing
4:02 chirping (trilling)
4:53 meowing
6:00 yowling
6:58 growling
7:30 screaming
This is so cool thanks for the upload
My Himalyan cat used to sing bariton in the morning, knowing that it was breackfast time and he also "skipped",the way kids do when they run and are happy! 🐹
Your cat vids really help me and my personal life and connection with my cats!
My russian blue cat is the most vocal cat I EVER met. He literally screams for pets as he headbutts my hand 🤣
I’ve had two Russian blues and they never shut up! I believe they are cousins to Siamese? Dunno but veryyy vocal in my experience
My cat makes this weird scary noise it's like she's screaming it comes from her throat she does it mostly at night please tell me what does that mean?
A moment for the dead bird😔, RIP 🐦
Funny!
One time I had a kitten in my lap and a dog came into the room, it started hissing and scratching when 3 seconds before it was purring :(
My long haired ginger talks all the time. She is so funny.
Mine too....some days, it drives me nuts!!!!😆😅🤣😂
@@believeinjesus8862 ohhh 🤣🤣
My cat talked... with a series of short chirps, loud purrs and meows with distinct consonants. She was definitely imitating human speech, with "sentences" that could last 10 seconds.
My orange boy is always trilling and following me around. I love my sweet boy.
My cat was a Norwegian Forest Cat and he was very talkative.
I'm so sorry for your loss 😓
Okay I have two Russian blues they were and are the loudest cats I’ve ever had. They talk all the time to great me, to tell me to change there water, for more food, to tell me to clean there box. Lol all of the ones I’ve had have been loud af. Amazing cats though! There true little friends!
After a long hard day of work. Nothing better than going to sleep with a cat purring laying on you.
Did you know that when cats put their forehead on your forehead it means they love you a lot.
I just got my first kitten a few days ago and this morning was chirping and running and jumping around while playing around. I was curious what the chirping meant and im happy to know now that she just was having a good time playing. :D
When I was super depressed, my cat laid on my chest and purr to cheer me up.
My cat is a long hair, and he is the most talkative cat I've ever heard.
Mine too! He’s a Siamese!
Mine as well - she almost drives me mad 😹
Mine too. I have siblings, one male shorthair and one female longhair. She talks up a storm. He's building his voice, but she's the talker.
Yowling is a precursor to a fight...and growling is usually a warning can be an intruder or some noise the cat is not familiar with.
My late mother in law used to say two cats yowling at each other in a kind of stand off were really saying, "Go home!" Noooo, YOU go home!" "Go home NOWWWW!" Noooo, YOU go home!" LOL
@@KG-cr4bc LOL..
However, her purrs are so loud you can hear them in the next room 😂
Her "sister" is a long haired mini panther, who loves to talk and announce that she's caught one of my dirty socks. The sound is almost like a yowling/crying? But she stops when I've acknowledged her catch.
Mojito banzai's me when it's gonna rain, an paws on my neck in a hug, cute quiet Mew....
My three cats ran away with the caterwauling sound in the video!
Just realized that my cat trills a lot when she's around me :)))
This is a brill video! cats are complex critters - it's important to try to understand them more as cat woners!
Mine does that. After 2 years I understand most of her meows
My cat trills when she’s in heat
Same. It felt like she was dying for a week
My cat trills everyday but doesnt purr
Spay her
Her her spayed. Be responsible
Spay her!!
When my cat heard the trilling sound, he immediately woke up from sleeping and looked for his mother. He's a month old and he's away from his home. He's so precious I should protect him
Now he's purring, relaxing
I love cats 🐈⬛!!!
"Caterwalling" is how my Maine Coon told me that he was sick.
From 2002- 2021 RIP Chandler...
God bless!
I only can sleep if my cat purring besides me.
Hey, thanks for showing the two yowling cats! I've heard this so many times, usually at night, but I've never seen them at it.
I like the "what can you do for me " tone
In my experience, my noisiest cats were long-haired. LOL. Part Maine Coon and Norwegian, one of each, and they'd have conversations with me. They were soooo talkative. My short-hairs have all been quieter, which is what makes the breed recommendations at the end of this video hilarious to me. Haha.
My short haired calico cat is so loud all the time, people complain she is too loud but she LOVES attention and knows she can be vocal. It’s so cute and I encourage that behavior by spoiling her which is not good 🤣
So nice! Appreciate
Thanks for this! Im so used to dogs lol, my cat trills! When i come home shes just runs straight to me, glad to know she loves me😂💕
"Saving one animal won't change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal." ❤️🐶🦊❤️ Saw a documentary claiming cats only communicate to people. Clearly they never seen two cats screaming at each other before fight.
my cats have like 2 sounds, one is "feed me" the other is let me out of/into a room. that's it.
Yea sometimes my cat will play with me and won’t stick out his claws
The stock video footage of the lady hugging her cat is adorable! also my male cat when we first got him and his sister, used to trill in the hallway when he was lost and wanted his sister to find him :)
We adopted a stray that looked like a picturesque Russian Blue, and she had a distinctive call. When she wanted to attract our attention, she would do a short, fast "meow-meow!", sometimes repeatedly.
I was always wondering why and what my cat is saying or doing when she was chirping
Now I know thanks to you 🙂
My cat chitters when he sees a bug
A MaineCoon? Quiet?! Seriously?! XD I have 3 of them - all are extraverts!!!
My Maine coon mix Is pretty quiet except for whennhe wants treats!!
Finally something that's correct.
Well our cat has a interesting way to communicate with us @_@
Meowing while the left Paw is up: Hungry
Meowing while the right Paw is up: Bored / wants to play
Just Meowing and following around: feels like it wants to chatting with you
(My sister and I are mostly Meowing in a similar tone back to her [our Cat is Female] and well it feels like its a conversation with our cat)
And when she's searching one of us, she does this like very deep and loud meowing until she finds one of us (happens mostly around 2 - 3 am and mostly she just wants to sleep in the same room)
