  • How to replace a PCM in a 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L.
The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) in your Jeep is designed to serve as the brain of your vehicle's engine. The PCM is what is often referred to as your Jeep's "computer." It controls a variety of functions, including how your engine runs and the individual sensors that provide it with information.

Thanks so much (I bought one from Ebay and had it preprogrammed.) Only issue was it was spray painted silver even on the plug sockets and very worn looking. Cost about $250 with shipping. But all works great Now! Your video was life savor and saved me a lot of stress with the dealers!

Thank you for taking the time and posting a video letting all of us know. Good looking out.

There are several companies now that you can order your PCM from already programmed. Just plug and play. A simple Google search will reveal this.

Unrelated but I ordered that same bumper and wondering what the measurement is in the winch mount area? Will it fit a large winch? Also how heavy is the bumper? I'm lifted but worried about needing to relevel lift if winch and bumper will add 300lb or something crazy like that. Thanks.

    • @FastestIntegra
      @FastestIntegra  Před 3 lety +2

The front bumper is not that heavy I can pick it up and put it on myself probably around 100lbs. I have not bought a winch for mine yet but it'll fit up to a 9500 lbs winch. The rear bumper with spare tire mount weighs a lot I'm sagging around 2in in the rear now even after putting a brand new lift kit on. I paid to have them powder coated in both the front and rear bumper came scratched really bad and I had to file a damage claim with the shipping company total nightmare.

RECALL QUESTION: In 2015 there was a Recall for the 2004 Grand Jeep Cherokee Laredo 2-Wheel Drive 4.0L Engine regarding something associated with the "Airbags" that is actually caused by a problem with the "ECM," which is also referred to as the "PCM." When taken to the dealership in 2015, the service staff said, "Don't worry about anything with this Recall." Each time the vehicle was taken to the dealership for an oil change over the next several years, the staff of the dealership would say, "Don't worry about it." But now in 2023 the "Engine Light" turned on. When taken to an automotive repair facility, the code that came up said "Thermostat Malfunction" and the service staff said this problem was being caused by the "PCM" due to the fact that two "Thermostats" had already been replaced during previous instances when the "Engine Light" turned on.
On the Mopar website, when the VIN Number is entered for this 2004 Grand Jeep Cherokee are entered on the website, is says there is an active "Safety Recall" associated with this product. The Mopar website says the Recall Date was January 27, 2015. The "FCA Recall #" is listed as "R06." The "NHTSA Recall #" is listed as "15V-046." The Mopar website then lists the following information:
Safety Defect/Non Compliance Description and Safety Risk
THE AIRBAG SYSTEM OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL (ORC) MODULE MAY EXPERIENCE A FRONT AIRBAG AND/OR SEATBELT PRETENSIONER INADVERTENT DEPLOYMENT. AN INADVERTENT AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WHILE DRIVING COULD DISTRACT THE DRIVER AND CAUSE A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING.
    Repair Description
ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES MUST HAVE THE OCCUPANT RESTRAINT CONTROL (ORC) MODULE REPLACED. IF YOUR VEHICLE STILL HAS SAFETY RECALL M35 (12V-527) OR N13 (13V-040) IN THE "OPEN" STATUS, PLEASE SCHEDULE YOUR SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH A CHRYSLER DEALER TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. IF YOU ALREADY HAD M35 (12V-527) OR N13 (13V-040) COMPLETED, RECALL R06 MUST STILL BE COMPLETED ONCE PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE.
    Recall Status
INCOMPLETE BUT REPAIRE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE.
There is no mention of a "PCM" or "ECM" in this description above from the Mopar website. Everything seems to be associated with the "Airbag" portion of this recall. However, this is not the same when you look at this "Recall" Description on another website called cars.com. The cars.com website specifically lists the "ECM" as the cause of the problems with the "Airbags."
The cars.com website also lists the Recall Date as January 27, 2015. However, the cars.com website lists the NHTSA Recall Number slightly different as "15V046000."
The following information regarding this recall is provided on the cars.com website and specifically mentions the "EMC" part
    Air bags
    Recall date
    2015-01-28
    Recall no.
    15V046000
Chrysler (FCA US LLC) is recalling certain model year 2002-2003 Jeep Liberty vehicles manufactured January 9, 2001, to March 28, 2003, 2002-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee vehicles manufactured February 13, 2001, to May 23 2003, and 2003-2004 Dodge Viper vehicles manufactured November 1, 2001, to June 30, 2004. Due to electrical noise beyond the tolerance of the air bag electronic control module (ECM), a component in the ECM may fail, causing the front air bags, side air bags, and/or seatbelt pretensioners to deploy inadvertently while the vehicle is being operated.
    Details
    Recall consequence
Inadvertent deployment of the air bags may increase the risk of injury and the possibility of a vehicle crash.
    Recall action
Chrysler dealers will replace the air bag control module and front and/or side impact sensors as required, free of charge. These parts are not currently available, however, an interim repair is available free of charge that reduces the risk of an inadvertent deployment. This recall remedy was applied during earlier recall campaigns of these vehicles under safety recalls 12V527 and 13V040. All owners that have not had the recall repair performed under safety recalls 12V527 or 13V040 are strongly encouraged to have it performed and not wait for the final remedy to be deployed to the field. The replacement ECM parts needed for the final remedy are not expected to be available until the latter part of 2015. Owners will be mailed an interim notification in late March 2015 and will be mailed a follow up notification when new air bag control modules are available. Owners may contact Chrysler customer service at 1-800-853-1403. Chrysler's number for this recall is R06.:
MY OVERALL QUESTION IS: "Is this R06 Recall that is associated with the 'Airbags' with the 'ECM' as the cause of the problem the 'Recall' you are referring to in your video?"
If so, should the dealer be replacing this PCM/ECM for free - the way they presumably should have since 2015 rather than saying, "It is okay; you don't need it done"?

      no they dont
youre going to have to reach out to a company that remanufactures them.. i did research for 1 month on the best option.. auto zone and o reillys both sell them through a third party.. they program them for you.. and will ship within 2 business days and offer a 2 year warranty.. have it professionally installed so you can also receive a warranty from them incase you do anything wrong.. or diy if you feel confident.. i tested my suspicion with a pcm from the junk yard.. ,but i had to take out the pcm, sentry system for key security + have the key (mounted key next to ignition so the security system would read the signal) .. otherwise it wont stay on when you turn key.. ended my stalling issue. Returned pcm to junk yard for refund and ordered one online. Just visually you can tell the difference in the way they make them between new and OEM computer. Good luck.. i dealt with this issue for a while and thankfully didnt go replacing random sensors and wires.
