    Another tip, the players aren’t eligible until they are 23 years old generally, so if you have a great prospect but he’s 20 years old and you want him to stay in the minors don’t worry about putting him on the 40 man roster. If you ever are unsure if he’s safe or not you can always look at his player card and it will say “rule 5 eligible” or not

      Yes, great tip. Definitely should’ve included this in the video

      Is this 100% true? Cuz I have a couple 19-20 year old Pitchers in the low 70s. I don’t want them getting stolen but I’m scared to death of taking them off my 40 man team. They are all in the minors.

      @@a.stoner I promise, if you are really scared when the 40 man draft is upcoming it will show you players “in danger” of being drafted on your team

      Yeah the rule is players drafted at the age of 18 or younger will be eligible for rule 5 after their 5th season and players drafted 19 or older will be eligible after their 4th season.

    IRL (and I would assume in the game) players are under team control for 6 years. So based on the age of prospects, you can figure out how many years they have. Using the Ji-Hwan Bae example, we know he begins at 18 years old in the game (because that is the youngest you can draft guys in the show), so you have him under team control until age 24 or you move him to your 40 man roster. If he gets to age 24 before you have put him on your 40 man roster, this is when he becomes rule 5 draft eligible.
    I will say there is a HUGE flaw/mistake the developers of this game made. As you get further into Franchise mode you will begin to notice this. One thing that the computer team GMs will do is put a brand new drafted player on their 40 man roster immediately. Then some teams will DFA, release, or cut these guys because they arent actually good enough or ready to be playing at the major league level. Once they do this, you will all of a sudden see a 21 year old 78 overall catcher in free agency and sign them to a minor league deal because why wouldnt you. However, all of these players have already been on a 40 man roster, so now they are eligible for the rule 5 draft. It makes zero sense. This is one of those things that is a major flaw in the minor league programming of this game. There is no GM IRL that would ever put a 18 year old on their major league roster and then cut them. it is complete nonsense.

    Can you make a video on re-signing players? I feel like my instinct is to not keep young c potential players, and I think I’m hurting myself

    buy if i play under the managers selection the pci shows up the pci works following the ball in out outfield and infiield works but if i go to play and not manager it appears not to work, is somewrong or thats the way it is

    I’ve been watching literally every video about franchise and got my Mariners to the playoffs in year 3...great content..
    One thing that I don’t think you have talked about and didn’t talk about in this video, where it would be most appropriate, is that some players are exempt from the Rule 5 draft. Particularly young players that have, depending on age when drafted, 4 to 5 years of exemption...you can see it on their player cards.
    I was putting every good player on my 40 man roster and realized the negative effects when I would acquire other players and my 40 man would be too high and I would have to remove someone and you get that notification that in order to remove them they have to clear irrevocable waivers which they definitely wouldn’t. So I would have to trade guys away because I put them on my 40 man to clear open roster spots. I just actually starting googling it a few days ago then I went to player cards and you can see under contracts that many of the players I put on the rule 5 draft were not even eligible to be drafted. Anyway, good content and I will continue this journey of franchise tips...Keep making them!

    So I’m kinda confused I have a couple questions. In reference to your video on options, you talk about being very careful with not wasting your options on prospects, but I also don’t want to put them on the 40 man roster because it will waste their options when I have to option them after spring training, correct? Also when you say that player from the rule 5 draft has to stay on your roster the entire season, do you mean 40 man roster or 26 man roster? What happens if you try to cut him?

    • @JacobReid
      @JacobReid  Před 3 lety

      For a Rule 5 player they have to be up in the MLB on your MLB 26-man roster for the season. I do believe you can cut them, but you are not able to put them in your minor league. From an options perspective, that’s where things get really tricky. There’s this balance that’s very hard to achieve between putting your guys on the 40-man to protect them, but also not using their options.that’s what I run into the issue a lot where I’ve used all these options on players. I protect them with the 40-man and then they get stuck

      @@JacobReid thanks for the reply bro, I’m not super familiar but this is nothing like real life is it? For example I know Yermin Mercedes was a rule 5 player but still spent time in the minors, also it is unfortunate that you can’t have prospects participate in spring training as it would waste their options which is not the same in real life. It’s good that you can cut these players though as you can draft some to test them out in spring training and see if they can make the cut.

    • @JacobReid
