    Look at those taped fingers and arm muscles. This guy doesn't sit on the couch watching soaps. I started to shear yesterday and I have issues often when I do. Sometimes I don't and they cut like butter. Didn't work well this time and only got one half done when I figured I'd better do some research! Ha. The shears were having to be pushed through the wool and not comfortable for the 4 month old lamb. I'll try again ....in 40 yrs! ha. No, one day next week. Ugh. Thanks for your help.

    Wool collecting under two right hand teeth of hollow cutter blade leaving ridges of wool on sheep pulling wool rather than cutting,any idea why? Have tried adjusting tension tighter or increasing lead on comb.Blades cut fine when first set up but quickly after a handful of sheep accumulate wool under cutter causing the problem.

    • @Followmeimblind
      @Followmeimblind  Před měsícem

      It's hard to tell without looking at them. But I'm guessing initial startup tension might be too low. If you start a little tighter, it wouldn't give the fiber a chance to build up underneath The cutter. Once that fiber gets packed under there, it's hard to tighten it correctly. If it's heating up and you feel it's too tight already, maybe the blades need to be sharper. The other possibility is sometimes the tension pin can become worn and maybe it feels like it's tight but it's not able to actually put pressure on the cutter.

    • @Followmeimblind
      @Followmeimblind  Před měsícem

      It's possible you're just shearing some really dirty sheep too. I'd swap cutters and see if that helps. You can get a couple cutters to a comb. If the sheep are real dirty It's possible they're just becoming dull.

      @@Followmeimblind is it possible that the distance between the knife and the scallop is too large (the tip of the upper blade and the edge of the lower one)? So there is too much to cut at any given time. It should be I think between 1-2 mm (maybe 1-1.5 mm). For sheep is not a problem if it is more, but for alpacas and llamas it is because their fur is thicker.

    Hi mate i have around 200 sheeps and budget of 250-300AUD so my question is can i find a shearing machine for that price and shear the sheeps ?

    • @Followmeimblind
      @Followmeimblind  Před rokem +2

      Yeah, it's definitely possible. It's NOT going to be fun for you! There's a huge learning curve! But if you have a strong back and some stick-to-itiveness you should be done in a couple weeks!

    • @Followmeimblind
      @Followmeimblind  Před rokem +2

      You should be able to get a cheap electric clipper for around $30. (U.s. dollars) Then I'd get 5 flare 13 tooth combs. And 10 cutters. Should be able to find the combs for $15 and cutters for $3 apiece. When you're just starting you'll dull them very quickly (you might get 5 if you're lucky) so you'll have to find a sheep shearer to sharpen for you or mail them somewhere.

    Is it ok to use WD40 oil?

    • @Followmeimblind
      @Followmeimblind  Před 2 měsíci

      Something heavier would be better. The thicker it is the longer it lasts. Bar and chain oil is really good but just any kind of motor. Oil is ideal. But wd-40 is definitely better than nothing

      @@Followmeimblind I heard people using diesel? Besides that, can you sharpen the knives by using sand paper and a mirror. Someone told me that, but I didn't try to do it myself....

    • @Followmeimblind
      @Followmeimblind  Před 2 měsíci

      @@vaw7016 maybe Diesel would work... I've never heard of it myself. I know oil works though. The blades are really tricky to get sharp. And it's relatively simple and cheap to get a old shearing wheel somewhere. I would recommend grinding them that way at least to start. They're so hard to get right. So I wouldn't make it any harder.
