    Fuel x lite + full dominator exhaust here : definitely smoothed out first gear on/off throttle positioning IMO. Good purchase.

    Thank you for the update. It is very valuable for those that are considering buying a light adventure motorcycle.
    IMO a bike has to be light enough so I can lift it straight up without the assistance of others, has to be able to carry a luggage (payload) for the camping gear and last but not least comfortable.
    So far on my list is a used low mileage BMW 650gs, and I wonder if the KTM will be as good as the Beemer.
    Your comments are appreciated.
    Cheers from Tasmania

    instead of your throttle rocker I installed an ecu cruise control - then you can freely move your hand off the throttle grip. Life saver and I budgeted for this when I bought the bike. I have the same tank back - you just unzip to fuel up - no need to unstrap.

      I had electronic cruise on my bmw it was great for long highway trips, I’ve used rocker’s for so many years I’m really comfortable with them and don’t really miss CC for the type of riding I do with this bike 👍😁 folks would probably like to see yours being installed and used can you upload a video? Thanks for the comment and info 👍

    Lol. Mormon Crickets…. I had a run in with them a week or so ago while driving north of Gerlach, NV. I was in my motorhome, so I wasn’t worried about traction, but wow. The road was covered with them for a couple miles. I am glad I couldn’t hear them getting crunched under the weight of my six tires.

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před rokem +1

      I’d seen them before mostly when driving through Nevada, never seen them in Idaho so I was not prepared to come around a corner and nearly get taken out by them 😁 news reports show them being especially bad this year 🤷‍♂️

    I put a 14t and a Fuel X Lite on my 2022. In my opinion the Fuel X Lite was definitely worth it. Smoothed out the throttle in the lower revs and made it even more enjoyable to ride. I only have about 150 miles on the Fuel X so far. Heading to the NEBDR next week. Will be doing about 2000 miles in 7 days. Should have a good opinion about the bike and set up after that.

    Great video, great review. Thanks. I had ordered mine about a month ago. Now it will be arriving shortly in a couple of days. Can't wait. I also got the comfort seat for mine. I heard that KTM will be bringing out something similar to the "R" version for this bike which will be much more capable offroad. Since it's using the Duke 390 chassy as to why it's too low to the ground.

    FuelX Pro is must. Your bike will transform. Add a BMC filter and get rid of the resonator lunch box (get a starlight mid pipe if you want to keep stock exhaust) or aftermarket exhaust.

    Great performing bike for sure. Have no idea how it was a comfortable ride. For me, this bike is appealing for so many reasons. But comfort keeps me from buying one! Enjoyed your video and the part of your trip I was able to follow.

      yeah its definitely not for everyone. I'm not sure how its comfortable either but for my size and shape it is. My favorite thing about this bike is that it is enjoyable to ride at a slower pace " i have a liter bike that begs to haul ass everywhere :) " . I'm never in a hurry when riding this bike.

    Some great advice especially about the lightweight nature of the bike.Does this KTM390 have any serious competition from other manufacturers?

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před rokem +1

      I think the closest competitor is the Honda 300 rally. Currently I believe KTM is the leader in small displacement adventure bikes 👍

    How many miles did you ride/average PER DAY on your trip?
    I have a place up in Welches, OR and I have family in Idaho Falls, ID that I would like to go visit on my bike. (I take that route/craters of the moon) Thanks for sharing your trip, watched each one. I too got his bike after having a 2017 BMW R1200 GSA (550lbs Guppy) and got SICK of the weight in most off road situations.

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před rokem +1

      Welches is just up the road from me “Sandy “ 👍 we averaged about 300 a day some less some more. I rode from Kemerer Wyoming, through Idaho Falls and craters of the Moon to Ontario Or in one long day “long day with a couple downpours and Crickets 😳” . I find the 390 to be excellent for long and short distance trips I just take it day by day when I travel, if I feel like a short day I’ll just find a cool town on the way. A good kinda halfway from here to IF is Mountain Home. And I avoid interstates 👍 safe travels

    A couple of upgrades worth considering is a custom center stand so you can lube the chain, park on uneven surfaces etc, I'd also use a rear tyre hugger with that tail tidy. Those halogen headlights are offered here in India with the Adventure 250 but the LED headlights on the ADV 390 are trash and most of them get aftermarket Auxiliary lights as soon as they get the bike along with a ton of other add-ons

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916

    I have a ktm 390 adventure too. It is new to me and wondered if I could take it on a long trip from Georgia to Main and back. Georgia to California and back. I love this bike it is so fun but wondered how the single cylinder would handle it. I do not want to burn the engine up. I am asking out of ignorance , I want to take this bike on many long on road trips.

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před 5 měsíci +2

      I've ridden mine on several long trips, at normal cruising speeds the motor is not being overworked , that being said i wouldn't run it on the Autobahn ;) but for moderate off roading and highways the bike is well suited :) Have fun and safe trips friend .

    What are your thoughts on the vibration? I am considering selling mine the vibes are just too much for me. I should have got a twin :(

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před rokem

      the vibes are not a deal breaker for me, Ive owned so many bikes and some definitely vibe worse than others but on a scale of 1-10 for me this ones about a three , maybe a two since i installed the Fuel X and bar risers. My KLR had vibes too but they were tolerable. I think what can make them so bothersome is where they are emanating from do you feel them in the pegs or the bars or the seat? I can tolerate vibes from the bars and seat but for some reason when they come from the pegs it'll drive me up a wall. My V-strom 650 was very smooth that may be a good route for you?. Thanks for the question .🙏

    I'm so tempted to trade my BMW G310GS for the 390 Adventure SW. I presume you'd think it would be a good idea?

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I haven't ridden or owned the 310 GS so i would be hesitant to advise you to trade it for the 390 . Not knowing what kind of riding you like to do or what you look for in a bike leaves me in a poor position to offer sound advice. When I'm thinking of trading bikes I usually research the new bike extensively and if possible ride one my advice for you would be the same. best of luck with your decision. Cheers :)

  • @Interbeing_CDN
    @Interbeing_CDN Před měsícem +1

    Because of the small displacement, the 390 is very affected by wind and elevation changes and with a throttle lock or rocker, you are always fiddling with them. If I was doing a lot more long distance riding, I wouldn't choose the 390 ADV, but at times when I do the odd 350-400 mile ride with the little 390 ADV, an electronic cruise control is a game changer. We are lucky that the 390 has throttle by wire, and for $300, the Veridan electronic cruise control was a no brainer. I would need to disagree with your premise that the OEM foot pegs are no issue off road, even with stiff motocross boots, the angle of the pegs is a real irritant, with a 0 degree peg, it transforms the ergos. The OEM bash plate is an absolute joke, and needs replacement if you plan any off road, or even forestry trail riding at all if you value your engine case. I am surprised that others have mentioned that they were able to get up to 15,000 miles on the OEM chain. Mine was toast after 6,000 miles, and required adjustment every 200 miles or so, and I should have actually replaced it earlier. I replaced it with DID VX3 and a 15-47 tooth combo, coming from the 14-45 tooth, and I now I only adjust it between oil changes. From my experience the 14-45 tooth combo was a bit buzzy on the road, and the 15-47 tooth combo has been a good compromise. The OEM TKC70's are great road tires, but totally useless in mud or sand, I have had good results with the Bridgestone Battleax Adventures, much better off road, and livable on road. I do like the bike overall, it's a great value, and there are enough aftermarket products out there to easily customize it to your own personal style of riding. Thanks for sharing!

  • @jacknimble1
    @jacknimble1 Před rokem +1

    The whole footpeg thing is so absurd! If you whine about that, you have no riding experience whatsoever.

      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před rokem

      I can understand how people can be bothered by it and maybe if someone spends a great deal of time standing it would get annoying but for me using it like I do I have no issues 🤗

    300 miles before breakfast! hahahahah. once a week I drive 250 on average before 6 or 7 Then I make the return trip a couple days later and it's not uncommon to get home at 2 to 4 am. Not on a bike though. 3500 HD leaving with 2 to 3 tons of lumber in the back.
    How does the 390 do on trip with gear loaded. Would it be good with a tent, sleeping gear and a couple days food and fresh clothes?

    • @thebelligerentmechanic8916
      @thebelligerentmechanic8916  Před 10 měsíci +2

      If you are traveling solo the 390 can carry those loads just fine . If you are going offroad try to hang the weight low ,if its to high it will get squirrely at higher speeds in deep gravel. Safe travels on your pre 6AM schedule and enjoy your ride. :)
