Dude Xbox literally just bought the casual audience if COD goes exclusive. I am actually super psyched for the potential for COD to improve under Xbox.
Read the headline, checked the date, saw it wasn’t April 1st. My mind has been blown, still processing. Insane news this one; and at the time, I thought the Bethesda acquisition was crazy.
The new report today is that Activision offered themselves to Microsoft to purchase them after going to Facebook/Meta first. Now, imagine if Facebook bought Activision for their Meta platform. About worries of monopoly, I do not think this even comes close to monopoly. Activision Blizzard is just so big that people assume that. Embracer has over 100+ studios, Tencent has shares and ownership of tons of studios including EPIC, TakeTwo just bought Zynga for $12bn, Sony are still buying teams after buying many teams in 2021. This is not even close to a monopoly. On a positive side, this purcahse will unleash Activision/Blizzard. Imagine teams like Raven Software; Toys for Bob; High Moon making brand new IPs and games now under Xbox. Banjo Kazoie is now possible, Fighting games are now possible under these new studios. These studio's creativity will now be revived
I agree, this is a major player in the video games industry, but nowhere near a monopoly. id liken this to Disney buying marvel or lucasfilm, a major acquisition, but nowhere near a monopoly. and I also agree that sometimes acquisitions and collections under one company can be good. now all those companies have a stable backing and hopefully better environment.
The discussion seems centered around MS, Sony and Nintendo, but it seems to me like MIcrosofts’s ultimate long term goal is to consolidate a secure position in the gaming space with respect to peer competitors like Google and Amazon.
The other console platforms aren't competition to MS as far as I've been able to tell via interviews and articles. Its Tencent, google, and amazon for the most part, though google will surely just toss in the towel this year. Stadia is an unmitigated disaster and already has a plot dug in the Google Graveyard.

With the news of the recent acquisition of Activision and Blizzard by Microsoft, do you feel that this changes the value proposition of PS Plus? I personally will continue to purchase PS games, but with the competitive price of Xbox Game Pass, I can't help but feel my yearly PS Plus subscription money is better off being spent on Xbox Game Pass (or PC Game Pass). This may not hold true for those wanting to play online with their friends on PS, but for those who prefer single player experiences like myself, I am gravitating towards abandoning PS Plus.
PS+ has had some okay games, but hell, GamePass just keeps getting further and further ahead. I'll keep my + sub going, but sony had better wake the hell up and stop resting on their success of last gen; which was more xbox making misstep after misstep, rather than sony doing anything truly amazing.
Would be cool if Treyarch, Infinity Ward, Raven, & Sledgehammer Games all got the chance to make new games or shooters that are not Call of Duty. Agree about going to a 2 year cycle on CoD. Let Raven get back to Soldier of Fortune, Hexen, or Heretic.

@@WillOnCode you really can't comprehend the 70B purchase can you? Sony's big purchase like Insomniac game was only 229M in comparison, 70B is like hundreds if not thousands of smaller studios net worth combined. Add another 30B, which is nothing for MS and that's the net worth of Nintendo.
It's all fun and games until Microsoft brute forces their way into a lead, stops giving a shit, and shutters a lot of these studios that are now "redundancies". Microsoft mishandled Rare and Lionshead and made almost exclusively anticonsumer decisions last time they had a lead. I don't get why anyone would celebrate them gaining a lead with all of these studios they bought up in hand. Xbox fanboys celebrate the potential RIP to Playstation but I see this as an inevitable RIP to half of those 34 studios they now own regardless what happens to Playstation.
People gotta remember at the end of the day Microsoft's biggest competition is worth around 45b, but their company is worth 2.3T. There is nothing financial stopping them from acquiring just about every major developer and studio.
I swear to God and this me talking whit a tinfoil hat but I actually raise my eyebrow when Gary said "And God of War... Still". Wtf do you mean Gary? Still???
I don't think Microsoft is playing the exclusivity game, i think they are in the ubiquitous game. I think all games will be available everywhere on Gamepass but they will come with all Microsoft services. Xbox will the the best place to experience them though. During the interview they even mentioned its the metaverese game. E.g. they want to incorporate Teams in the games so that is your default audio/video communication tool when playing them. I think, this way Microsoft will start getting a monopoly "again" over all the third party support services like discord. Getting the young people incorporated to the microsoft ecosystem. Cause this makes the $70bn mere peanuts compared to the big game being played here.
@Angel Perez I think exclusives are good for games, in particular first party ones. They are intended to be the highest of quality games for the console in order to convince a consumer to buy one console over another.
I hope they make a Diablo inspired game with different characters. Not that I wouldn't like smash. I think Ultimate alliance but with all their IP instead would be fire
totally agree with Paris's take on this. Hope I am wrong and both Nintendo and Sony can continue to put up some good competition against Microsoft, but losing out on two major publishers with potential for more down the road just seems like a move to suck out the air from the competition/stop any potential new competitor from ever getting ground in the space. Just feels like the Windows Microsoft finally showed up.
What Sony needs to do instead of acquiring new studios give Spider-Man movies rights back to Marvel Studios and in return get the gaming rights for every Marvel character.
watch this space, Sony will buy EA so they will have the FIFA & madden etc as exclusive. At the same time will have the mass effect, dragon age, sims, command and conquer, apex, battlefield, titanfall, dead space ips. This is the best move they can make right now.
Dude. On a Whitta Wednesday too. Crazy news. Is this purchase legal in the states though? Wouldn't this create a monopoly for Microsoft in video games?
Once it's easy to stream game pass to my TV without having to worry about using my PC or streaming through any device, I'm all in. Just don't want to buy another box with cables.
Honestly, I don't really care about this acquisition as I don't play multiplayer games which is what the company is more geared towards. I think the last game from the company that I put at least 100 hours into was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Since the whole microtransaction system is becoming mainstay in such games, I just never bothered to even try. But good for Game Pass subscribers I guess.
I’m a GamePass subscriber and I think they should leave it on PS. The increased player base is only a plus to the players. Especially more console players, because I hate playing cross play with PC in shooters.
This should terrify everyone. You never want too much power consolidated in one place. Microsoft has gone for the throat and it actually might backfire in ways they don’t expect.
@@corbinfine4145 monopoly less places to buy games from you kill the competition and make it impossible for new ones to come up causes stagnation and mediocrity.come on bro where you born yesterday?
This is a direct retaliation to consumers. Consumers did all this. Creating the console wars. Well Microsoft just dropped the Mic on the console wars because now that is what's expecting of them.
@Jesus Morales This is far from a monopoly. Sony, Nintendo, EA, Techland, Take 2, Ubisoft, Epic Games, Valve, Capcom, Crytek, Square Enix, Bungie, Sega, Bandi Namco and this is before the hundreds of Indie Developers. Plus with Amazon, FaceBook and Google all starting gaming studios with places to play them. It is very very far from any kind of monopoly. Stop over reacting.
If the PlayStation Game Pass competitor is true then I don't think this should terrify anyone. There's always been exclusives. But with this subscription based gaming options it's cheaper than every in the long run to be able to have a shit tonne of games on two different consoles. I have PS5 and Series X. I will be getting a Switch for my son this year at Xmas. I couldn't care less about what's exclusive and what's not. There's soooo many games on each and every console.
I think Sony now need to go out and secure a big studio to support them, with annual titles from 3rd parties far from guaranteed the way things are going... Square would be a perfect fit imo....They have a huge PlayStation player base and have multiple titles in development, exclusively for PlayStation. I sight the similarities to the acquisition of Insomniac, the relationship seems strong between both parties right now and this would help protect the Japanese market Phil is keen to cater too. FYI I play both XBOT and Pony platforms.

@@gawdtheblessedone4681 Buying is not really the issue, wouldn't mind getting a series x. It's balancing multiple subscriptions & convincing friends to play on the same platform. Pc seems feasible but hackers ruin so much.
@@wasifali112 agree but there's only one subscription you need with gamepass and, my gamer points usually pay for my gamepass monthly. It's wild how good we're eating in the xbox ecosystem.
@@wasifali112 The irony of this is Phil and Xbox ran their mouth off so much about crossplay, only for people now back to square one but without PS consoles in the mix. I'm not trusting anything that guy says again.

Bad for gamers. We’re walking towards a monopoly in the gaming industry.
100% shame people ain’t seeing this.

The Xcast boys are eating good this week!
@@akumakurosawa can't really get any worse than Activision already was.
I was just saying that this weeks episode of the Xcast is gonna be great because they'll have so much to talk about, relax lads
@@scarrantsandreviews Completely different leadership a decade ago mate. Hope you had that same energy for Japan Studio recently
Will this bring out Resistance or Killzone now?
I’m guessing they will push back any MAJOR Activision/Blizzard releases until that deal closes next year
People gotta remember at the end of the day Microsoft's biggest competition is worth around 45b, but their company is worth 2.3T.
There is nothing financial stopping them from acquiring just about every major developer and studio.
You don't understand how of this works lol

All this consolidation is not good for the game's industry
@Angel Perez I think exclusives are good for games, in particular first party ones. They are intended to be the highest of quality games for the console in order to convince a consumer to buy one console over another.
@Angel Perez but I don't believe in taking games away from a console base that has had them for 2 decades
If this acquisition completes smoothly Xbox really needs to make a fighting game with all their characters.
This deal truly is insane!
I hope they make a Diablo inspired game with different characters. Not that I wouldn't like smash. I think Ultimate alliance but with all their IP instead would be fire
Killer Instict XBOX ultimate Combo edition
Now XBOX needs to put vicarious visions back to remastering the THPS series.
totally agree with Paris's take on this.
Nintendo will be fine. Theyve always existed in their own world for the most part. Their exclusives will keep them going.
@@jxm8284 switch just surpassed 100 million units. They're doing just fine...until Microsoft gobbles them up too and becoming the new house of Mario.

What Sony needs to do instead of acquiring new studios give Spider-Man movies rights back to Marvel Studios and in return get the gaming rights for every Marvel character.

This is the best move they can make right now.
Dude. On a Whitta Wednesday too. Crazy news. Is this purchase legal in the states though? Wouldn't this create a monopoly for Microsoft in video games?
Now it’s gonna be even harder to get a Series X 😭

Hope microsoft can bring AB to the right path~damn~
Honestly, I don't really care about this acquisition as I don't play multiplayer games which is what the company is more geared towards. I think the last game from the company that I put at least 100 hours into was Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. Since the whole microtransaction system is becoming mainstay in such games, I just never bothered to even try. But good for Game Pass subscribers I guess.
Microsoft owns the three biggest and most legendary FPS titles of all time.
Halo, COD, DOOM. That's nutty
I think this year’s CoD will be on PS and game pass at launch but after that, they will be Xbox and PC only. PS could do with SOCOM when that happens.
Let's hope you are correct. SOCOM 2 remake 👍👍
I’m a GamePass subscriber and I think they should leave it on PS. The increased player base is only a plus to the players. Especially more console players, because I hate playing cross play with PC in shooters.
@@quattroCrazy thry should but most likely won't.

This should terrify everyone. You never want too much power consolidated in one place. Microsoft has gone for the throat and it actually might backfire in ways they don’t expect.
Why would this terrify anyone?
Doesn’t this HAVE to mean Game Pass is going to go up in price?
MS will buy all these big publishers and then raise the price.
My dream is treyarch working on a zombies-like flood halo spin-off game

I think Sony now need to go out and secure a big studio to support them, with annual titles from 3rd parties far from guaranteed the way things are going...
Square would be a perfect fit imo....They have a huge PlayStation player base and have multiple titles in development, exclusively for PlayStation. I sight the similarities to the acquisition of Insomniac, the relationship seems strong between both parties right now and this would help protect the Japanese market Phil is keen to cater too.
