    She read a newspaper article about mercy killing in which the husband killed his terminally ill wife out of mercy. Being the hopeless romantic that she is, she saw the love in the act. And being the emotionally controlled and beautiful creature she is, she presents us with this ultimate act of love from the point of the view of the "victim". And here delivery and control is so perfect, we can almost feel the woman's ghost walk right though us.

    Good take on her. Good comments too. I read some other comments lately that I don’t see here. I think you like. She grew up in a small place in Norway and was bullied sometimes for being autistic. Her two older sisters were her friends and protectors then and now. She spent all her free time in the forest. Just her and the animals. By age 3 or so, she had made up a lot of songs and was writing them a few years later. Until she was well into her career, she was terrified of the stage. She would whisper the value of Pi, 3.1416........., which she had memorized through several hundred decimal places, to calm down. Check out some of her interviews on line.

I hope you can add Aurora's songs Gentle Earthquake and Churchyard live at KEXP to your Aurora list, as her KEXP performance is phenomenal, and It Happened Quiet live at Nidarosdomen a truly iconic concert. I have chose these songs because you said in a previous Aurora reaction that you played the drums and percussion. On the studio versions these songs Aurora played the drums and percussion herself. She also played the drums and percussion on the studio version of The Seed, Daydreamer, Forgotten Love, Dance on the Moon, Animal, In Bottles and Hunger.

    I know someone has probably already commented about this but the guitarist is Odd Martin, he was a writer and producer on some of her work, and left the band to focus on other projects. He'll still occasionally do performances with her and collab on some songs. I can't remember the name of his other band. I believe they cowrote Murder Song, which was released with two versions (acoustic and one a bit more electronic).

    Making people think this much about a lyric is pure art and definitely intentional by Aurora. She often tells people that she will not explain the lyrics. It is up to people to take their experience into the interpretation of the lyrics. And watching different reactions to her music you see the different takes on what the lyrics mean. So her art works as intended.

    If you want a song with even more epic poetry, I suggest "Infections of a Different Kind". It has a hopeful undertone in a work with every word having a golden value, The last almost whispered phrase is to remember , and to be really honest I want to see your face when you hear it. On top of that it takes place as an outdoor concert deep in a forest. Which also has a meaning. @.

    This is poetry... In this context ( the Nobel Peace Prize Concert) I think it is to draw the attention to the victims of war. So, "He" - is the Universal soldier who is killing for some shady reason of "mercy". In other context Like in the concert in Nidarosdomen she performs the song in a different way because there it is about another victim.

  • @goeranm55
    @goeranm55 Před 4 lety +6

    There are several interpretations to this song. One really direct and personal one. But also one where "he" is mankind and she herself represents nature. We kill mother nature. We know we do that. But we continue. Fits well inte her eco-agenda

    • @elizabethlessner2911
      @elizabethlessner2911 Před rokem +1

      There can be several interpretations but this song stemmed from a "mercy killing" dealing with a husband killing his wife because she was terminally ill. It is a very controversial topic yet today. Aurora dug into it really deeply and showed us what pain that the husband went thru to do it and what he was doing....releasing his wife, the woman that he loved from all of the pain that she was going thru. His emotional pain and later on punishment could even be said to be even greater than his wife's pain and suffering. The wife was reaching out beyond the grave to offer him comfort, compassion and support because he might and did go to prison because of it....at least I look at it that way.

    • @goeranm55
      @goeranm55 Před rokem

      @@elizabethlessner2911 I really do know and appreciate what you tell us about Auroras background to writing the song. And maybe you are right in saying that's what it is for Aurora also now. What I try to say is that with the growing awareness of what we do to Nature and Climate (and also Aurora's seed song) I think (But have no proof) that the alternative interpretation might even be growing with the singer herself. Whichever is the truth the text fits extremely well also to that interpretation

I think some reactors make a big mistake by mostly only reacting to her live performances. She is a portent live, one of the best, and her songs sound always different, but the studio versions are also perfectly well crafted gems of recorded music with theyre own set of sttrenghts and vision.
