All this conversation shows is that too much emphasis is placed on the individual when it comes too SB wins. Which is BS, I hear that it is two wins against the Patriots, but those wins are significant because of how good the Patriots were in comparison too the Giants, not because it was two equally matched QB's going too war.
Too put Eli Manning in the HOF as a first ballot means that if aliens came too earth they could rightfully assume that if you had 2 SB rings and a HOF induction, then you were about the same level of player, which means Eli and Peyton are the same. It can't be allowed too happen like that.

Depending on the season, Eli was good, to average, to below average, through out his 16 seasons. He has two SB rings, because he had a great defense, excellent running game, and a great coach. In all honesty Phil Simms was better in his era than Eli was. And Phil Simms has 2 SB wins as well... and Phil Simms is not in the Hall of Fame.

While I won't penalize the overall team record of 117-117 with him as a QB, I won't reward him for two SB's primarily won by the defense. The SB MVP award is a joke. It's almost always given to the winning team QB. SAS is right about the Giants defense deserving the award. Being considered for the HOF needs to be primarily based on individual accomplishments. Dan Marino didn't need to be on any winning SB teams to deserve his spot in the HOF since he had a tremendous career as an individual performer.

@@bigda6407 there's validity to that. However you can argue Christian Laettner, perhaps the greatest college player of the modern era. Had a so-so NBA career, 1 Allstar appearance, a few above average seasons. He's not in the Basketball HOF as a player (in as part of the Dream Team).
@@bigda6407 I think its easier to make the basketball hall of fame than the NFL hall of fame. Average players make it into the hall of fame all the time. There are still players in the NFL that probably deserves consideration that has not made it in the hall of fame yet. People like Andre Rison and a few others were pretty good and have decent resumes have not made it yet.
NBA hall of fame has some suspect entries too.

Stephen A and Deion are correct. To be in the HOF there should be 1 of 2 conditions. You play at a high level for a long period of time. Or if you play a short time you need to be a unique talent and during your short time you need to be among the best of the best. Eli doesn't meet that criteria. Heck Terrell Davis in my opinion doesn't meet that criteria.

That criteria is broader than only players that "changed" the game. Deon Sanders changed the game but so did Randal Cunningham. I always thought the HOF was supposed to be a comparison to the accomplishments of your predecessors and your peers.
E.g., selection of someone whose accomplishments stand out against past players and outshine his peers.
Eli outshines past QBs in terms of longevity and having 2 rings, but he doesn't stand out above his peers.
At no point did anyone ever think he was the best QB in football, he never had the best season, he was mediocre, literally.
And beat Brady twice in the Superbowl. That alone is enough for me.
