Is Deion Sanders right about adding exclusive wing to Hall of Fame? | Pro Football Talk | NFL on NBC
/ nflonnbc - Sport
Lawerance Taylor goes in the upper room, it needs to be players that changed the game. He did.
LT should be one of the all time top 3-5. But he shouldn’t be part of any committee selecting other Best of the Best HoF because cocaine is a helluva drug
I agree 100% bruh
But mostly because it's been watered down over the years.
Maybe because of the HOF's success ...
Too many people who have never played the game voting.. also a reporters biased view of a player that he didn't like can keep a player out...
I guess what I'm saying is that it has become almost political
The NFL Hall of Fame is a money-maker. They have to have several players go in each year to keep it a big event. This is why they've started putting in "good" players instead of all-time greats. If it were only all-time greats, some years it would only be 1 or 2 players....which would not be good for business. It's all about the money.
Moss changed the game
Got to put him wherever the players are highest... ;-)
Imagine a top 10 in the Hof as voted by hall of famers. Keep it the best 10 to ever do it.
Why would it be too 10 when it’s 11 on the field
well there is offense and defense so its more like 21 on the field at all time. I say top 10 cause just voting the best ever by position kinda screws some people. Like Brady and Montana are both top 10.
Well Deion knows he is getting in. Lawrence and Deion are there.
You have to start out with “The 1st 50”.
That’s the Jim Brown, Deion, LT, Barry Sanders, Peyton, Walter Peyton, Brady, Singletary, Ray Lewis, Deacon Jones, Reggie White, Larry Allen, Ed Reed, etc
I like the idea of a separate room of the best of the best of the best chosen by fellow hall of famers.
If it is done it should not happen the year they are inducted. There should be a longer waiting period for that. It eliminates some of that recency bias. Maybe 15 years after induction, which would be 20 years after retirement for 1st ballot guys. If they are not still clearly a great after that time, they should not get elevated.
So when people are nearing death. Got it lol
15 is too long but correct.
I remember watching an interview with cops after it took like 8 of them to detain Lawrence Taylor and qoute" he said Lawrence Taylor was the strongest man they ever had to arrest"
Yes, there should be some sort of ring of honor in the hall of Fame. There's some guess that barely squeaked in and some guys that were no brainers.
Every great museum has an exclusive wing or gallery showcasing it's most special and valuable treasures. The Louvre has the Denon Wing and the Musee d' Orsay in Paris has Upper Level "1". It makes so much sense that the pro football HOF should have the same. It's great for the game and for business. I like the idea that the hall of fame induction continues as it is now and the "upper room" is a furtherance of that process determined by a committee of halll of fame players. Prime is spot on with this idea of a "Legends" wing or upper level/ room. It would only add to the mystique and popularity of the NFL HOF. Also, Florio might be on to something to make it an exclusive TV event. Go NFL Films. Fans would love to see that process! Build it and they will come.
Nobody cares about The Paris hall of fame .
"If you build it. HE will come"
@@moogs05 I do. And it's my comment, so that's all that matters. Thanks.
Art is made by individuals, and football is as complex a team game as ever created. There are phenomenal players whose impact was limited by playing for bad clubs, and players playing positions who will never rack up great stats. Deion wouldn't be in the Hall at all without someone else doing the tackling.
@@daveconleyportfolio5192 “Deion Sanders wouldn’t be in the hall of fame without someone else doing the tackling” huh?
Yes, all of our Hall of Fame’s have turned into hall of good
It’s more like a hall of whatever.
I think you're talking about the Basketball Hall of Participation.
Hall of 'Oh Yeah I Remember That Guy'
Once they let Kurt Warner in after having like 4 good years in St. Louis and 2 and a half good years in Arizona was wild.
Love how Joe Montana casually strolls by in the background at 7:07 as these dudes are discussing if an upper room is a good idea.
Eli getting in the hall of fame is just wild to me. He won 8 playoff games and in every game his defense didn’t over 20 once. But that’s what good connections will do for you
Eli is the ONLY QB to beat the Goat QB (Brady) TWICE!!!! That has to count for something
@@PoeDaddyRay that thing is called New York Giants hall of fame or ring of honor, they should even retire his jersey if they can but not the hall
He also chose the team he went to after college effectively making draft order irrelevant. But hey there are certain "privileges" when your last name is Manning.
@@PoeDaddyRay You want to put Nick Foles in too?
@@PoeDaddyRay Except him and Goat weren't playing each other... they were playing each other's defenses #BADARGUMENT
I'm done with the HOF the day Eli is given a jacket he didn't earn.
Yeah because Joe Namath and his below .500 record, 50 percent completion percentage, and 173 TD passes to 220 INTs oozes HOFer. Eli deserves to be a HOFer way more than some QBs already in it.
You ca t tell the story of the nfl with out Eli
@@KCShox I gave up after Warner got in. He had a few short great years with the Rams but after that his career wasn’t consistent.
Any argument that applies to Eli manning also applied to Edelman.
And that argument is that neither belong but Edelman should even be mentioned as a Pats HOFer...
I think it's impossible to implement... I think it's more important have eras of different HOF. And you can have top guys from those eras.
the Hall of Fame should be for players who are famous before entering the Hall, not because they were voted there due to some stat boy becoming enlightened comparing spreadsheets while trying to figure out how to fill a quota
Neon Deion is right, especially if Eli gets in.
Joe Namath got in. Eli is miles better
Great show, as always, guys!
Yes! Deion is usually always right!
Questioning if Peyton should be in the 'Upper Room'?!? AB-SO-LUTELY!
FREAKIN-LUTELY!
Shocking take from a so-called expert. The man is a 4-time MVP winner.
I agree with Coach Prime. Now it's like when your standing in line waiting to be let into the popular night club and the bouncer unhooks the rope and allows a group of people to rush inside before closing the rope temporarily just to open it again for the next group
I don't care what anyone says, Zach Thomas deserves to be in the HOF.
What's super funny is as I'm listening to Prime talking about guys who don't deserve to be next to LT, Zach Thomas is the first guy I thought of lol
Newsflash, he is in the HOF...
Stop letting below HOF guys in.
Whats frustrating is players from the past were left out before all this quota voting so you have the guys like Ken Riley, Ken Anderson, Stanley Morgan, Phil Sims , Otis Anderson, Roger Craig, Rosey Grier, LC Greenwood, Harold Jackson, Cornelius Bennett, Chuck Howley, Eric Allen, Tim McDonald who don't get looked at but them more modern players slide in.
SIMS, MORGAN, ANDERSON, ANDERSON, MCDONALD NOT HOF
From that list, only 5 time 1st team All-Pro (and SB MVP) Chuck Howley belongs in the HOF...
Phil Simms and Ottis Andersen aren’t HOFs…not even close
@@dkeiepps5606 Yeah but there are guys no better than they are who are already in
They need to get rid of the quota for NEW and recently retired players and give more slots to the senior player group to get in before more of them die or get too old for induction. It's ridiculous some of the players that are glaring omissions.
I'm kind of sick of people changing things in an attempt to make EVERYTHING perfect and we end up with a mess. Folks, like it or not life is not perfect, life is unfair, life is hard, life is not easy so we should make our best effort to deal with the good, bad and ugly and simply do the best we can to make as much as we can fair for all but NO matter what we do someone will be unhappy.
Imo need to either have A. Changed the game B. Been one of the best at your position in all of nfl history.
Is Florio okay..... did he just question if Peyton Manning would be in the "Upper Room" of the HOH? are you kidding me... Thank you Simms for putting some respect on Peyton. It's like people forget how special he was in his Prime. That neck injury cost us fans some really good Manning years.. its too bad. Loved watching him play.
He won with neck in denver though didn't he or was that before?
@@mourka01 Im saying it shortened his career... his arm strength was never the same and got worse and worse with time.. and more hits.
his record breaking 51 TDs season came after the neck injury... It's just sad that happened and cost him/fans some good playing years.
He miraculously got better after his wife got HGH. Cough cough
@@Steven-lb4bl Facts!
They should have a wing for great moments. Like Vicks Monday night cleats, the first responder to help Hamlin photo, things like thst
Man shut up lol
They already collect that stuff
The NFL 100 team members could be the committee
Maybe a top 100 wing
Gotta love Coach Prime, but there's no need for an extra wing....true fans know who the best of the best were. Those of us who grew up watching Neon Deion know that he was one of the greatest of all time
I can't believe Florio entertained the idea of not putting Peyton Manning in that upper room. The meaning of that room is about players who were different from the rest. I'm a bit young, but guys like Unitas, Jim Brown, Walter Payton, LT, Deion Sanders, Brady, Manning, Marino...they're mythical figures. The same cannot be said of Warren Sapp, Michael Irvin, and similar players. They're all HoF, but they didn't change the game. It's sort of a backhanded compliment, but what I think is that the truly elite players deserve that recognition.
Yes Coach prime is correct 💯
What I hate about this debate is that people always bring Eli Manning up in it. First, he hasn't been up put in and second there are a lot of players you could question before him.
Prime is right. The players who played know the real game-changers. It's not exclusive if you let everyone in.
7:07 walking by is definitely in the upper room!
there shouldn't have been a need for this upper room. The HOF should of been the upper room and so many of these guys didn't deserve it in the first place
No. Everyone in the HOF isn't equal and people are perfectly capable of figuring that out on their own through stats and awards. Deion is honestly being a dick with this opinion. Yes we know you're better than most of the people in the HOF that doesn't mean you have to punch down and be mean to the borderline candidates. They're not disrespecting you you're disrespecting them.
What you are saying, and what very many believe, is that the HoF has been devalued over many years, by admitting great players in their time, but not generationally talented ones. I think that if you made that determination today, half of the busts would be ineligible. Having an annual quota is ridiculous.
Phil Simms could push all he wanted but no one is putting him in the HOF.
It really shows how much the game has changed. When Phil Simms retired he was 8th all time in career passing yards. There are 8 active QBs (not counting Brady) that are above him today.
Sh%$ What's the difference between Phil Simms, Ronde Barber and Zach Thomas?
Why Zach Thomas in before Phil Simms?
@@ericthomas151
Here is the difference:
-Zach Thomas has five 1st and two 2nd team All-Pro selections; made the all decade 2000s team.
-Ronde Barber has three 1st and two 2nd team All-Pro selections; made the all decade 2000s team.
-Phil Simms has....
You are welcome for the free education.
GOAT ... LAWRENCE TAYLOR ... MICHAEL VICK ... DEION SANDERS ... JIM BROWN
A few easy answers for the upper Room. Lawrence Taylor, Deion Sanders, Tom Brady, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana.
•You have the GREATEST of all-time at a position
(Lawrence Taylor)
•You have one of the greatest of all-time at a position
(Mike Singletary)
•Based on their body of work over a long career with great stats
(Curtis Martin)
•Based on a good career that had iconic championship moments
(Lynn Swann)
•Based on a good career on an iconic team and had iconic moments
(Drew Person)
They're all HOFers. An upper room is a dumb idea. It would tarnish the hall of fame.
I believe they should put certain players in a shrine in the back where the lights are a little Brighter and the Bus is a little shinier
I can't believe Simeon Rice isn't in the Hall of fame. How about we just put the best players in the Hall of Fame and that's it. There's no need for a upper crust, only the best players should get in period.
I can...
@@msp5138 How so? 🤔
There should be a “1st ballot” wing
Dead right!! NBA definitely needs an upper room section of ALL hall of fames'...
yeah. Yao ming a hall of famer? what?
At 3:30 they’re talking about Eli Manning and Toni Boselli
Boselli didn’t deserve it
Zach Thomas getting in probably sparked this debate
GOD IS GOOD ❤️ HBCU'S
love this idea
Make first ballot HOF have their own area.
If there's going to be an upper room, there also needs to be a basement. That's where you put Eli, if he gets in at all
Eli belongs in the closet of that basement...
@@msp5138 - The janitors closet hopefully
President of the upper room in the background at 7:09.
This reminds me of the “Frasier” episode where Nile’s and Frasier go to a spa and keep wanting to go to the next door, and the final door was the back door to the garbage alley.
The concept that players have clue is bizarre. How many players competed against Otto Graham?
What is bizarre is that you think you know more than HOF players...lol
@@msp5138 I don't vote. The fact that you think recency bias should determine who is the best of the best says it all.
Outside of the two Super Bowl runs Eli Manning never made the Giants consistently competitive.
I agree with Deion there should be a upper room for the truly special players the real game changers who changed the game like Deion Lawrence Taylor, Barry Sanders , Reggie white , Peyton Manning , Jim brown, Ray Lewis , Ed Reed, Walter Payton , Jerry rice , Joe Montana , John elway Dan Marino Tony gonzalez soon to be Tom Brady these guys are the upper room and others guys that I forgot to mention but they should be distances of the hall of fame
Mike Vick definitely changed the game fist QB ever with that speed
Fred Taylor deserve to be in the hall of Fame
No
Nope. At least not before Roger Craig and Eddie George...Ricky Waters and a couple more.
I could see beast mode in before those guys
@@dvkgaming5863 Beastmode should definitely get in
As the janitor maybe...
Enjoy watching.
Isn't that what the NFL 100 team was for?
There should be one room with one spot for each position for the best player in that position as voted on by all HOF players.
Great idea 💯
Devin Hester needs to be in - He changed the Game
It's criminal that him and Patrick willis have had to wait at all. Both should've been 1st ballot.
One problem could be that greats of past decades like the 60s and 70s May get overlooked because other HOFers are younger and didn’t watch them growing up.
Exactly they're basically talking about the players from way back who's stats are incomparable to the modern league. They were from a different time, give them their respect.
Prime actually have a point
You go best player from each position. Then players vote if someone from a newer class takes a previous spot. It should be an honor and 1 of 1.
It's really the hall of numbers. No one was more famous or better that Bo.
Should be the all-Time team.
11 Offense Players
11 Defense Players
2-3 Special Team Players
1 Coach
1 Owner
If you put someone in, someone else comes out.
The biggest case for the hall of Fame that still isn't getting in is London Fletcher
And he's only getting snubbed for who he played for or who his teams owner is really soon as Snyder sells the team hell get in you watch
Isn't he a British actor?
They already have a distinction... First Ballot HOF, Second Ballot HOF, Third Ballot HOF, etc etc....
Who is in the qb elite room? Brady, Manning, Elway, Montana are locks? Is Sammy Baugh, Otto Graham, Unitas not there, too? Bart Starr?
I think the hall of farmers don't have enough say in who gets in. If the media had less say T.O. would have got in 1st ballot like he should have.
Agree
Yes! & another thing… if there’s a year where only 2 or 3 guys actually deserve to get in then so be it. Stop trying to fill up the event with guys who were just “good” or Players/GM’s that are 100 years old.. if it took 30 40 years to get in…. Then you probably aren’t a hall of famer
Nooooo. Maybe a one person room named "Biggest Ego in Sports" 🤣
There should only be allowed two - three attempts at the Hall. After that no more
It's true
Basically the upper room of the hall of fame should be the players on the 100 all time team.
Just stop letting everyone in . Upper room is just gonna cause controversy.
Patrick Mahomes belongs on the upper deck no question asked
If they picked the ten greatest defenders regardless of position is Deion on the list? At DB is he over Woodson, Reed, Polamalu, and Lott? LB is Taylor and Lewis but does Bednarik, Brooks, Butkus, Lambert, Lanier, Nitschke, Simgletary, et al make it to the exclusive room?
YES DEION IS A TOP 4 PLAYER ALL TIME, THERE IS NO DB BETTER THAN DEION
@@monochrome493 Deion is not a top 4 player all-time and he would even agree with me.
Good list but you left out: Jack Ham (8 All-Pros), Bobby Bell (9 AFL/NFL All-Pros).
I'd put Bell over Ham because he was the first "true" athlete at LBer.
@@msp5138 Willie Lanier is also in the discussion. 8x all pro middle linebacker
Eli & His Defense Beat A Team That If Won Would Go Down As Greatest Team In History &&& To Add To His Other Against Them !!!!

They should be a immortality Ballers 💯🏈💙💜🏈🏈🏈 category. And then you have. Players who will be in the HOF .Str8 outta London UK 🇬🇧 5ive-o junglist 💯💙💜🏈🏈🏈🏈🏈
If Eli goes to the HOF then why not Phil Simms?
As a Giants fan Eli belongs in the HOF but not first ballot. Players who are close to the Hall I always ask could you tell the story of the NFL without them and Eli you can’t. He has the numbers, the rings, beat the goat twice in the Super Bowl, super bow mvp,the 49ers game, the packers twice at lambaeu, and is was apart of 3 of the best passes/catches all time (helmet catch,Odell fingertip, and Manningham on the sideline).
He’s nowhere near on the level of Brady or his brother…so I do agree there should be an upper room that has players like Reggie White,LT,Deon,Ed Reed,Ray Lewis,Jerry Rice,Brady, Aaron Donald when it’s his time…these players were just waaaaay better than their counterparts so they should be acknowledged for that.
I agree. The fact Edgerrin James was elected...I mean come on.
My wife and I were just talking about something like this for the Rock and Roll HoF. I mean The Beatles are in with Nine Inch Nails (no disrespect to NIN but they’re not The Beatles or Rolling Stones). Cat Stevens with Elvis and Chuck Berry. So this is great idea for Pro Football HoF! The immortals should be separate!
Yeah not every Singer, Rapper, or Band with a few number one albums should be in the hall of fame. The hall of fame should be for transcendent artists & athletes.

This is crazy 😧
Yeah lets put a CB in an "elite" wing of the HOF who was afraid to tackle anyone unless it was from behind.
fillage - "the process of filling something to a specific age or stage in its development." "to describe the process of filling a container with a specific type of material until it reaches a certain age or stage of development."
Fillage in the Pro Football Hall of Fame: "The Pro Football Hall of Fame filled its galleries with memorabilia and exhibits to reach the desired fillage for showcasing the history and legacy of the sport."
The word "fillage" is a neologism, or newly created word, that combines the Old English word "fyllan" (to fill) and the Old French word "aage" (life span or lifetime). The word was created to describe the process of filling something to a specific age or stage in its development. This term specifically refers to the process of filling a container with a specific type of material until it reaches a certain age or stage of development.
The word "fyllan" has been in use in the English language for many centuries, with roots in Old English. It has a number of different meanings, including:
- To make full or complete
- To occupy (a space or container) completely
- To add material to (something) so as to make it full or complete
- To put (something) into a space or container so that it is full
The word "aage" has Middle English roots, and comes from the Old French word "aage," which means "life span" or "lifetime." It has been in use in the English language for many centuries and has a number of different meanings, including:
- The length of time that a person or thing has existed
- A particular stage in the development or evolution of a person or thing
- A particular historical period or generation

Don’t know if there needs to be a holy of holies inner sanctum, but the HOF absolutely needs to be far more selective. Canton is becoming like the Rock and Roll HOF. Basically if you have a nice long career, you’re getting in. It will be an absolute travesty if (actually, when) Eli gets in.
Eli should not be in? He is top ten in yards and touchdowns, and has more Super Bowls wins than six of the top ten in both categories. And, he beat who most call the GOAT; TWICE!!!
@@DrPhill96 he also lead the league in interceptions three times and if I'm not mistaken also retired with a career .500 record. If Eli goes in, Flacco should be in. Better regular season quarterback, and for the most part a better postseason quarterback as well.
For the record, I don't think Flacco should be anywhere near the hall of fame.
@@USALeonHeart the problem is you’re arguing against Eli when the argument is that guys who Eli has better stats than are already in. @@Geeandrezzi of course he has better stats look at the era he played in lol. Was there a single year in his career where Eli was a top 5 qb? How many pro bowls or all pros? He didn’t win those SBs on his own. In all 8 of his playoff wins, defense didn’t allow more than 20 once.
@@Geeandrezzi you are not hall of famer by comparing to other Eras, it is in your era apart from two amazing seasons Eli was a very normal level QB

-Zero All-Pro selections in 15 years
-4 Pro Bowl in 15 years
-Career record was 117-117
-Carrer passer rating is 60th (during QB friendly era)
-Never had a passer rating over 94 and was over 90 only 5 times
-Lead the league in INT 3 times (TDs once)
If youur top 10 in any major positive stat when you retire then you're automatically in the hall.
Anyone who wins two super bowls as a quarterback who leads both teams to a super bowl should be in the Hall of Fame. What about Hester!!!? If you want to question someone who should be in the Hall of Fame question Troy aikman Devin Hester anyone else who has bad numbers compared to others ... Hester, I mentioned because he has to be inducted as a wide receiver. I'm pretty sure they don't induct kick or punt returners into the Hall of Fame and that's probably the reason why he hasn't been inducted is because he'd have to go in as a wide receiver or potentially a cornerback because that's what he was drafted as
Dion played him like a fiddle.. what a beautiful set up I'm agree with Dion the best-of-the-best should decide who are the elite of the best
If there is a wing to the hall of Fame it should be for the best at their position. With only 1 person per position. If someone is judged better than you your then out .
Great idea, but I feel old school guys will be overlooked since many they played against are just not around anymore. Guys like Unitas.
So we don’t have the history to know who was the guy and changed the game in his era??
Everyone who actually follows football (and not just Brady) knows Unitas belongs in any upper room of the HOF.
