Ooh thank God she only nags about Jini not cooking....I was tensed up a bit when she asked about how long they hv been married because knowing Asian culture, the next question usually would be about having children. I was so relieved when she only ask and nag them about cook instead of kids....

Yeah same. If you're single, Asian grandma/mom would force you to married. And the next thing they're gonna start questions about children. I'm glad only foods get question here

I think Mrs Shim meant well and it’s more of grandmotherly nagging on her part haha albeit harsh, I think it may not be an overstatement to say that many Asian grandmothers nag a lot like that XD I take it to be endearing that she cares for them and is emphasising the importance of her beliefs.

It's very easy to tell who didn't have an asian upbringing in the comments. 😂😂 y'all are too weak if this is considered harsh. Most of us see this as normal conversation because in our culture we rarely have "oh sweetie.. oh honeyyy how are you?" And then kiss kiss. Nopeeee. Ours are like DO YOUR HOMEWORK. WHAT TIME ARE YOU COMING BACK. YOU THINK THIS IS A HOTEL??? DONT COME BACK THEN! SAY THAT AGAIN. trust me once you are raised like this all these comments don't even seem harsh anymore. Ya'll needda toughen up geez😂😂

Funny how I’m asian and was brought up in an asian country and household yet I find Mrs Shim’s words harsh.
Y’all just weren’t brought up with respect OR were brought up in an old fashioned asian environment. In my family, no matter if we’re old or young, if it’s wrong, we speak up.
However with this being said, we would stay silent if whoever that’s being disrespectful is older AND not related to us. So if I was Jini I wouldn’t speak up because who are we to correct strangers or acquaintances. Mrs Shim is just plain disrespectful but because she’s the oldest most of the time, she feels like she has the right to say things like this.
Also y’all might think I’m taking it seriously but I just speak like this hhhhnng I’m just expressing my views

Hmmm... Ms. Shim saying that she’d tell her son to leave cuz he’d die, but then later when they were watching saying that it’s fine for either girl or guy to make food as long as they had a healthy breakfast... 🤔 shouldn’t her son be able to make a breakfast then, and thus wouldn’t die in that situation? Sensing some hypocritical beliefs on her side here 😓 Not that that’s surprising of an asian grandmother lol

yeah now I'm officially not a fan of ms shim, u don't know them personally so that was really very uncalled for...there's certain boundaries and you're now just going way over them. that was both rude and uncalled for in my opinion. Seriosuly telling him that his wife is not a good 'wife' for not cooking breakfast right to his face IN FRONT OF HER was just outright belittling them on their decisions and lifestyles TOGETHER. What a thing to tell a married couple honestly, she should be encouraging them not telling the husband if it were in her hand she'd have him divorce.

She is kind of typical Asian Mom/Elder which I believe most of us hate to see about. And Asians do give Elder alot of priorities. We listen to their nagging and many uncomfortable comments, instead of feeling offended, i believe most of us will just endure it through ^.^"

If you got offended by that youre a snowflake. Thats just a tip of the iceberg in most asian countries, mother-in-laws are exponentially rude than that and they mean it. I dont support those kind of stereotypical actuation but sadly its a norm to live next to your inlaws especially when youre the wife
