We just signed a Contract to have our roof replaced with the Certainteed Landmark Pro with the 4 STAR Warranty. I have done extensive research on roofing materials and basically what homeowners have to say about the work that was performed for them. Also, what Roofing Contractors have to say. Certainteed has the overall approval of most good contractors. So, for our money, it is Certainteed! By the way, this is Ed, Robin's husband. Not Robin.

I have been a full time roofing contractor in Dallas area for 40 years. Believe me when I tell you that product is trash. The very shingle you mentioned I will be shocked if it is not defective. The problem is that certainteed will not pay to replace ( I’ve never seen it). They are such a problem. They have a tag on side of every one of these bundles. Do not stack. I drove to Ennis Texas to see how they store the incredible number of shingles they have on hand. All were stacked and stacked. Everyone knows you can’t stack these pallets. They literally activate the sealant in these shingles and you cannot get them apart. They ship to distributor, so I wanted them to know what they are going to be faced with. They also had these pallets stacked despite the seal strip activating. My recent job took forever to get shingles. They told me they sell out as fast as their 24 hour automated system would produce them. Nobody has rage shingle but certainteed has acres and acres of this shingle. But they tell distributors that they are out of stock. They know these shingles are defective so they sell them.
I will paint a picture how they are doing this with no repercussions. This roof has a tag on every bundle. It is a requirement to show date of production on each bundle. I found 5 different tags on this delivery. It was produced over a 7 month period. Some made in June. Some in November. Some in between. I’m a good customer. I always pay my $60k to $120k per month on time. 40 years in a row. What type of loyalty did it get me. Big zero. The supplier tells me they are the victim here and they have done nothing wrong. Hopefully the courts disagree.

@@23AJT Owens Corning is good. GAF too. All brands have defects at times. Certainteed will not honor a warranty. The last one I installed cost me more than $20k to tear back off and replace. I intend to recoup it in court. I have been in business 41 years now and have not come across such poor problems. Now I have another one that I’ll have to replace. I fully intend to nail them to the wall on both of these. We are now reinspecting all certainteed to deal with how far back this goes. The worst part of this is on both deliveries there were 5 different run lots produced over a 6 month period and all were equally defective.

Certainteed by far is the better shingle. The weight is much more on the Certainteed than gaf. Apples to apples more weight equals less blow off and lays flatter.
