  • In keeping with my tradition of posting rare music that no one else has posted on CZcams, this one is from my Mom's collection of 45's that she played quite frequently when I was a kid. I don't believe this was ever included in any of Johnny's LP's - and that's a shame because it's a really great song. I still love it simply because it reminds me of my Mom. So this one's for you, Mom. I miss you.

Just a few weeks to go before www.oshawarocks.com goes off the air playing the music of Johnny Mathis. If by some chance the listenership goes WAY up, then I'll keep this going.

My God, Flexx! If I didn't know that you had written the description, I'd have sworn it was me. Your story regarding this great single is absolutely identical, and with just as much respect to my own late Mom, to my own relationship to it. Still one of my favorite Mathis recordings. Thanks so much, bro, for sharing this!

I am happy that you found this, Mike, and it makes me happy that there are others in the world that had a Mother that was as cool as mine was. They may be gone but they are never forgotten. Thanks for taking time to share your story.

I am Japanese and studying English.
I couldn't find the lyrics of this song no matter where I looked.
If you don't mind, could anyone please tell me the lyrics?

The title of this song is an oxymoron. You can't be "among the first" to know something. That implies that there is more than one "first". It's the same as when people say "You think YOU'VE been using computers for along time? I was one of the first people to have my own personal computer." Only one person can be the first to do, say or have anything. You can't be "one of the first". (This is true in ANY context. I was merely using the computer reference as an example) Things like that have become part of the colloquial language. It just makes me laugh when I hear people criticizing foreigners for not knowing how to speak our language when, in reality, most Americans misuse their own language every day. I'm sure there's someone out there with an even better understanding of the language than I have who could point out errors in my comment.

And what if you are revealing your plans to a group of people? Is it still an oxymoron then?? Who would be the first among a group to know? I'm sure you could find a million other songs to nit pick... needlessly and pointlessly, I might add. After all, this is entertainment, not english class.

If a group of people is informed of something, someone would have had to be aware of it already in order to inform them, no? I know I'm nit picking and my rant was irrelevant to the music, I was just making an observation. I actually quite enjoyed the music.

Paul Thibault Yes, the informant would. But if, say, it were a personal secret and they were informing a group they the group would be among the first to know.
