    If I could add my 2 cents as an audio guy, I see a lot of video editors make this mistake. Add a very short fade on either end of any cuts you make to avoid pops and clicks that may be created from not cutting at a zero crossing.
    Thanks for all you do 🙌

    • @team2films
      @team2films  Před 3 měsíci +5

      That's a good tip, yeah, even if it's 'beat matched' it won't be a zero crossing. Wish we'd included that now!

      I think Resolve already does this internally. Makes sense, because otherwise nearly every cut would click, statistically. Users would notice and complain instantly. They don't want to bother with low-level technical details such as manually finding zero-crossings every single time. So far I got away with pretty wild signal jumps at the cuts, which would have sounded awful in other programs. Also, Resolve seems to recognize and optimize manually drawn cross-fades between two tracks (as seen in the video) for constant volume. This also increases usability a lot and is what makes Resolve such a great piece of software: It tries to solve the users' actual problems as smart as it can, i.e., without forcing them to get into the nitty-gritty "computer crap".

    Great advice. There is also an interesting option with cropping without counting the beats in the track, everything is done by DaVinci on the Fairlight page. There is a grid tool on the panel, you need to specify the BMP of the track and DaVinci will indicate where to make the CUT. I would like to see all the possibilities of this tool, otherwise everyone forgot about it.

    When making a ring out not every time you have an entire audio track just for that, you can also compose the audio clip and add an adjustment layer and that way you can extend the clip and add the reverb to that

    • @team2films
      @team2films  Před 3 měsíci +4

      Yes, that's a good technique too. We prefer the track-based ring out method though because it requires less clicks and it's easier to edit/modify your music after you've made the ring out. That's especially true when you have more than one ring out in your edit, or you've set up the ring out track in a timeline template.

  • @zelkuth
    @zelkuth Před 3 měsíci +1

    Great Video! Question though: Wouldn’t the ring out effect work the same if you added reverb on the original clip and keyframed to “engage” only in the last phrase? I’m new to DaVinci so I don’t know if this option is there, but in Logic Pro that’s how we usually work with different audio effects. We automate(keyframed) them.

    • @team2films
      @team2films  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Yes, you can keyframe the reverb. However the reverb will still only last the duration of the clip. Some people get around this by adding silence to the end of the song so it can be extended. This can be done by compounding the clip and adding blank space at the end. That's why we like the reverb track method as it's less clicks... and if you have multiple songs that you want to ring out, you don't have to setup a separate reverb effect for each. Just push the last note down into the reverb track.
      Does that make sense?

    • @zelkuth
      @zelkuth Před 3 měsíci

      @@team2films oh wait! If you already have a music clip the reverb goes on the clip and not on the audio channel? You gotta have an empty track for the effect to go on the channel and not the clip? 🤪

    • @team2films
      @team2films  Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@zelkuthI see what you are saying. You could put the reverb on the track that already has the music clip in. But without automating the reverb volume it would be on for the entire song.
      So yes, you could do that. It's totally possible to do it the way you are suggesting. But it might be easier to use a separate ring out track.

  • @35milesoflead
    @35milesoflead Před 3 měsíci +1

    Is there a reason why you didn’t use Fairlight to control and add the reverb? An automated FX bus with a reverb on it could have done the same thing in seconds.

    • @team2films
      @team2films  Před 2 měsíci

      Hello, thanks for watching and thanks for the good question.
      Yes, automation on a bus with the reverb effect could allow you to do this in one track. However, if you change the edit and move the music left or right, the automation will need to be updated too.
      There are several advantages to the method we demonstrated.
      It's easy to move the music in your edit, just grab the clips and move them.
      It's a simpler technique. We've not had to teach people how to use busses, or how to use the Fairlight page.
      It's much easier when you've got multiple ring outs in the same edit. You don't need to build the reverb effect for each.
      Hope that helps? Of course, there is always more than one way to achieve the same end result.

    I'm afraid that you are not counting quarter notes - you are counting 8th notes - when you listen to it there is a bass drum ( thud ) on the 1 and a light snare hit on the 2 and 4 - This is typical for a lot of music percussion. I think you're going to lose a lot of non musicians by doing that fast count. In a beat the snare is probably the peak of that waveform as well. I used to mark out the one on the track by pressing the M key while tapping my foot and laying down the marker for each bar. Then in a music video you can name the downbeat on choruses or guitar solos etc. And when your cutting the actual video - using the nav index for markers - you can jump straight to the right place in the song by just picking it from the list.
    For cutting to the music - if counting correctly finding the one on each bar is going to a better and easier cut.
    Seems like beat detection and BPM will probably be an easy AI add on - wouldn't be surprised if Resolve adds it on one of these updates.

Make sure you have the "Master" visible then click the EQ, if EQ is NOT visible then click on the "+" just to the right of the "Effects" pull down to EQ. Double click on either the "Audio 1" of the "Bus 1" solid line beside the EQ. This will open up the EQ in DaVinci. Now, DO NOT restrict the high frequencies. You might even have to INCREASE some of the frequencies between say 1k and 2.5k, that is 1,000 hertz and 2,500 hertz.
