    I’ve had issues with the lane wiggle, as well as renewed problems with lane changes. The car hasn’t had these kind of problems when using FSD for years, but with version 12 it’s gone back to second-guessing itself halfway through a lane change and moves back to the original lane for seemingly no reason which drives me mad.
    Those issues aside, version 12 is brought such massive improvements that I find myself almost never manually driving the car the last couple of weeks.
    Zero disengagement drives are now the rule not the exception.

  • @mwaldyke
    @mwaldyke Před měsícem +5

    I have been enjoying my free month of FSD. I have come to a conclusion that my daily commute is a bag full of edge cases, especially with the freeway construction in and around Ann Arbor. In general I have been pretty impressed with FSD. Where it consistently has problems is on busy freeways near onramps and offramps. It does not do well when the situation is complex and evolving, and there is a time limit. It also tends to treat long onramps as driving lanes until they end. A number of times I have had to take over because FSD hesitated to merge into traffic and ran out of onramp. Similarly, when I'm driving to work, two lanes add to the right side of the freeway, and I have to exit one mile later. The car sometimes handles this effortlessly, and other times it hesitates to move right toward the exit lane until I intervene. Overall I give it a solid B, but it is not ready for robotaxi work yet.

    Roads in the US look so simple and wide, yet FSD struggles and hesitates a lot still. Looking forward to see FSD try out some narrow French city streets, or face off against aggressive euro drivers. Or one of those long single track roads in the Scottish Highlands where you have to frequently pull over to let other drivers pass, but might end up in a ditch. Those will be the true tests of FSD's abilities.

      @@DerekDavis213 _99 percent is not good enough_
      In keeping with your dishonest ways, you have somehow twisted my statement that I *used* FSD 99% of the time on my road trip into a claim that it only *functioned* 99% of the time; and that was not good enough. The actual reason is that there were parts of the trip that were just too much fun for me to drive, to allow FSD to have control. For an example, search Google Earth for Sitgreaves Pass, AZ.
      _I have driven for 10 years, every day, without an accident._
      *BFD.* If that meant anything-which it doesn't-my last accident was sometime in the 1990s. The reason it means nothing is that even if you drove triple the national average of 13,500 miles a year, that would still be only 405,000 miles; and that's well below the 541,000 miles between reportable accidents of average drivers in average cars. Not until you get to 541,000 miles without an accident can you claim your driving safety is even average.

      The issue with FSD isn't visibility. As mentioned in this video - its memory, "common sense", and other nuanced and difficult-to-define factors that humans bring to the table that it cannot emulate. And honestly - its the plasticity and adaptability to nearly any situation than autonomous vehicles will struggle with. It took several hundred thousand years of human evolution to get our brains where they are. A computer isn't going to make that leap in a decade or two.
      We used to say "Well its not rocket science!" to describe impossibly challenging tasks. But what do rocket scientists say? They say "Well its not neuroscience!". Because the rocket guys know - the brain (human or animal) is orders of magnitude more difficult than rockets.
      Tesla is doing a great job to be sure. But do not be confused - fully autonomous driving isn't going to be solved this year or next, or likely even in the next 5. It will take extended, consistent pursuit and progress to get there.
      I'm optimistic about the potential here. But Elon is definitely and dramatically underestimating the timeline.

Say you've manually set the max speed to 30 mph on that road; v12 won't try to reach 30 mph but will instead drive slower if it thinks it's appropriate. The major issues I've had with FSD 12.3.4 are exits when many cars are around. It fails to get over into the exit lane soon enough and in too many cases it misses the turn if I don't take over. Entrance ramps are much better, so good that I feel better letting the car decide when it's safe to merge left

    My biggest issue right now is with lane changes and the way it either starts into the next lane than makes a move back toward the original lane than completes the lane change or aborts it and stays in the original lane. • @texastriguy
    @texastriguy Před měsícem

    Yeah indecisiveness when a lane splits or a new lane opens up like a turn lane is a SERIOUS issue. Here in Texas we have 4 lane divided highways that periodically have left turn lanes that open up to turn onto what we call "Farm-to-market" roads. When this happens, FSD will occasionally try to pull into the left turn lane, even when cruising at 70-80mph. Its extremely unsafe and if not corrected IMMEDIATELY would result in a high-speed crash.

We get people in the UK who are paying attention or know the area and will get in lane really early (sometimes slowing others around) therefore there is probably a lot of variations in the learning and the AI will pick up on lots of details surrounding this, so how the car acts might seem random currently, but its acting on it's learning.

In the UK, we'll have sign that is "Keep left" this will be a blue circle with a white arrow pointing diagonally down and left. If it had that sign and the car could read it, it would not go into the road works
